  • The old 1961 Rover P4 80 had been lying in the back of the shed, unused for a few years, so we decided to get it going again, test out and bring it on a Classic Car run down to Wexford
The clutch was stuck to the flywheel from lying, put that wast an issue once it was restarted in gear with a foot on the clutch.
The brakes were also stuck on, but after some research I figured out what the problem was, a very common issue with the servo, and it was up and running again in no time
Wexford and back no problem, and to Birr and back just last week, I even drove it to work a few days
This is a 1961 model of the P4 and is officially known as a Rover 80. The P4 was produced from 1949 to 1964 when it was replaced with the famous P5, thats what Maggie Thatcher was driven around in!
The P4 60, 65, 75 and 80 were 4 cylinder models, mine has a 2.25L petrol as fitted to many Landrovers. The 100, 105 and 110 models were 6 cylinder petrols
If anyone wants more info on fixing a brake problem on these cars, just send me a message

She's a beauty. Sold my 80 about 4 years ago - dove grey over smoke grey, with O/D on gearbox. My brakes used to stick on partially, occasionally. Used to stamp on the brake pedal to free them off. Thanks for posting.

Back in early 70's. One parked up on my street. Can't remember if i was allowed or the doors were not locked. Anyway...I got to sit in it! Smell of leather and wood ;) Ahhhhhhh!

very hard to put a value on any classic nowadays. One in good condition would have to have zero rust, as P4s rust in hidden areas that are hard to repair, so its the most important issue. Most P4s are 6 cylinders, the earlier 4 cylinders are rarer and have a little bit of a premium. I would imagine our one is worth 5000 - 8000 euro, as it has been extensively retored and is an 80 model which is a little rarer than most. wheter one could find a buyer at that price is a different story

How much is a P4 worth today in good condition?
