“Original” owner here. The seats were out of a 1985 Toyota pickup. The owner before me sprayed the tailgate with Bedliner which came off instantly with power washing, the damage on the light was from an old lady in a parking lot lol. The broken window on the topper was a kid with a BB gun.

The only thing that can kill a 4runner or the Jeep XJ Cherokee is rust. They just don't die.

I love the way 1980s Toyotas drive, nice and light, not like anything on the road today.

And 55 mph thing was a federal speed limit to deal with the fuel crisis if I recall correctly. Funny how today some states would just flat out say "No" if the government tried that.

Yup! I'll have a whole video about it coming out in January but that and "safety" but it was a really quick law. Most auto makers just kept it there through the 80's so they didn't have to re-make the cluster.

My buddy owns an 85' and it's scary lol. Highway is so tough with the vehicle, definitely on interstate. The mirrors loves to move and it feels like its gonna break at any second.

These solid front axle 4runners are so damn cool. Wish Toyota didn't cut the US off from the good stuff in the 90s.

The late 90’s early 2000’s Toyota are the best. Great ratio of technology and ease to maintenance

@Clevelandsteamer324 Indeed. I have an 01 Tacoma and 97 Landcruiser now, love them both.

This was hard to watch, Had to sell my mint 89 couple years back for nothing. No rust yes NO RUST and 40k on a cammed 22re. Now the prices are shooting up which I knew would happen. They deserve it though. These were just old trucks when i bought it in 07. Loved every min of owning that truck.

Dude this used to be my truck and this was a really hard one to watch. It just couldn’t keep up in the Colorado mountains though.

I'd drive that. Doesn't help that I live around a crap load of deer, a racetrack, the occasional polar vortex of 3 feet of snow overnight at -4 degrees F, I can't drive stick, the price of gas is going up, and I might just have to drive through arm and leggings to get the progeny away from said places that are a little too close to "decision making areas"... But I would be really careful and buy new tires and keep the oil changed, if they still sell that stuff :(

Awesome the 4th vehicle that I have owned that you are reviewing. Keep the good content rolling.

I would buy this if they made it new today. Solid front axle. And still made in Japan even today

Haha... I drive an '85 4runner everyday (you can spot it in a couple of my FPV videos that I have posted on here). I just finished swapping in a 3rz 4cyl engine out of a 1997 4runner though. I daily drove it with the stock 22re and it was ok. With the added horsepower of the 3rz... it is an absolutely Night and Day difference. I even swapped in the EGR and EVAP systems from the 97... so it is smog legal and I can even hook up a modern day scan tool through the OBii port under the dash. It is now the perfect vehicle to me!!!

It's pronounced High-Lux btw but this was a nice review for me, someone from a country that never got the 4Runner locally

I wish Toyota makes a 2 Door 4-Runner with a Removable Roof to compete with Bronco & Wrangler!🔮☺️

I currently have the 1985 Toyota 4runner SR5 5 speed with the 22re and sits on 35's with 5:29 gearing, AIr lockers coming soon!

That's not a coin holder. It's for cigarette packs. Well everyone I knew as a kid who had those type of Toyotas would have them there.
