DeAgostini 1:8 scale Ford GT40 - Amazing model of an amazing automobile

  • The first editions of our 1:8 scale DeAgostini Ford GT40 have arrived! The Ford GT40 was an AMAZING super performance race car from the late sixties and early seventies.
    For more information on the Ford GT40 and to see a special promo from DeAgostini DO CHECK OUT their website:
    bit.ly/3x6fXes
    This is our third DeAgostini 1:8 scale diecast automobile. DeAgostini makes models and diecasts in many scales and of many subjects. Our friend Don has built two of their wooden ship models. The quality shows in all of their offerings!
    A unique aspect of DeAgostini is its subscription system. As the larger and more complicated kits are expensive and take months to build, they are sold as editions, sets of parts that usually assemble quickly. Also, each edition includes with the assembly instructions a written history, a magazine with historical photos, and information about the prototype. While we have found we can often complete the assembly of the edition in a few minutes, we spend an hour going through the magazine.
    While a person can sign up to have one edition delivered each week, we have found it better to have ten editions delivered each month or so. As I say, the assembly of each section can be done in a very short time, but it's MUCH more fun to spend an afternoon or evening or two building our model! And then look forward to the next large box from DeAgostini while going through the magazines.
    Our other two DeAgostini 1:8 scale automobiles are a GAZ Soviet-era four-door sedan. NOW, while the prototype is of little interest to us, the model is sooo fascinating that we simply could not resist. The other is a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang in Guardsman Blue and Wimbledon White. EXACTLY what we have in the garage. So how could we say no?
    And now the Ford GT40. Larry Miller had six of these ten-million-dollar cars! AND our friend at Millers track and garage would let us into the collection to simply be in the same place as the best collection of super Fords on the planet. And so here too, how could we pass this amazing model up?

      No kidding.... The film Ford vs Ferrari tells it all. "Mostly" accurate. The cars are so basic. So light weight. just nothing to them. Yet.... GOOD HECK FAST???!!!

    The 1967 Le Man winning car, the Ford GT40 Mk. IV, driven by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt is on display in the Ford Museum in Dearborn Michigan. The museum is worth visiting. One more thing, the video is an interesting comparision between Soviet and American cars at that time.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup... This is the Ken Miles car from 1966. The #1 car. So not the movie car... but the movie is not 100% accurate. The story is way too big for a movie!. Anyway this is that car. AND the #72 seen here is the prototype! Never raced. Actually a slow pig. BUT IT'S THE FIRST!! After Larry passed his son Greg moved the collection to Colorado where it and other cars are on display in the Shelby Museum. Greg sold some of the cars and kept one mustang as a driver. And the other kids got some of the others. And Larry's wife kept one of the T birds as a driver.

      I paid $200 for a 1:25 scale shelby Mustang in 1:25 scale. Came with a recording of Carol Shelby driving the Riverside track. The kit was missing the record. BUT I had the record... AND now we have the complete kit. So some of those old kits are rare and expensive. HOWEVER this kit was re released several times and you can bag those for about $20! ENJOY THE HUNT!! ENJOY THE BUILD!!!

    Ok first off that is totally awesome that guy actually drives his collection and drive them like they were intended, which is why I love watching Goodwood and seeing all those vintage race cars getting a good ol' ringing out. Second yes I have seen these " part of the month " model kits on other modeling channels and seems like an interesting way to build a kit.

      Totally love it. We’ve got two. Now three. And our friend Don has built two of their wooden ships and another friend, also a Don, has built the back to future DeLorean. Which is great because he did sound effects on all three films.

    Nice!!! My brother built one of these of the Back To The Future Delorean. Apart from having to chase the manufacturer about a few pieces not being quite right or missing, it's a really beautiful impressive model. (I think it took a couple of years of monthly subscription! 😂).

    I seem to remember that there is a "subscription" model(s) for some of the Star Wars space ships, IE The Millennium Falcon. Is this the same company?
    When you first showed the Russian model, I was very impressed at the detail and accuracy. I'd say: these models compare to the very high end "wooden" ship models, which my brother-in-law builds, and that is saying quite a lot.
    It will be fun to view this project, as it progresses. ;-)

    Good morning folks! Loved your intro! Karyn's reaction to you and the X-acto knife was funny.
    I have a weakness for building models, but I've never built a metal kit before. Now thanks to your video I'm looking online at the assortment of models that are available.
    A model kit would be a nice winter project...on top of all of my other winter projects that are inundating my hobby table. I need more room.
    Thanks for another great video!

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. Yes these are amazing. Expensive but amazing. Only problem I see is they are die casts and have a die cast mentality. So heavy metal bodies. But no hidden details. No real frame. Yet 100% accurate suspension and brakes and such. But the entire cage not modeled as it doesn’t show. Or show much. On the real car open the engine compartment and the empty space around the cage is just obvious. In this case the model has inner wheel fenders more like the street version. But I can see why. If done like the MKIV they are modeling it would be sooo fragile. Hum.. just like the real MKIV!!

    That's a great looking DeAgostini GT40 kit! I'd LOVE to have a kit like that. But, it's way OUT of my price range. 🙄 I have a large collection of Exoto 1:18 scale diecast models. Ever heard of Exoto? I have a 1:18 scale Ford GT40 from Exoto... it's a beauty. Other 1:18 diecast models I have are some racing Cobra Daytona racecars by Carroll Shelby and a few Chevy Stingrays. Exoto makes really cool 1:18 diecast cars. You should check 'em out if you haven't already done so. I'm gonna check out the 1:8 the kit you are showing us in this video. It's interesting! Thanks for sharing it with us! 🚗

    I’d love to see someone make a 1/8 scale Foxbody Mustang. Around 40 years ago one of the plastic model kit companies made a 1:12 or 1:16 1979-1982 Mustang hatchback. The kit is extremely hard to find as I’ve been looking for one since the year 2000. I found one listed in a car model magazine for $100 about 15 years ago when I didn’t have the money.

      I forgot who made a 1/8 scale 1982 Camaro but my brothers FIL had one. He had an early 1980’s Camaro Berlinetta he barely ever drove until he sold it years later for more than he paid for it. He also had a 1954 Corvette project car he was going to restore after retirement. He developed health problems and had to retire early. I believe that his family still has the 1954 Corvette. He had shelves full of older NOS Chevy parts also. My brother tried to help selling the NOS parts but his MIL was for lack of other words extremely hard to get along with.

      It’s some music purchased from a library called smart sound. I don’t think it has a name or it might have several different names. But it’s not something that was ever released as music as library music for use in videos like this one.

      Yeah, I’m not all that keen on the order in which they send the parts. Keep in mind though that they want you to subscribe and then not give up. So they start off with some of the prettiest parts even though you’re not gonna do anything with them, except set them aside. But it gives you something to look at while you’re building the model so you don’t lose interest

    Love your show! Here's one for you. Sometime between 1957-1960 my Dad bought me a motorized kit based on horseless buggy, possibly an early Oldsmobile.
    I was born in 1950. The kit was in red plastic and the small electric motor was driven by 2 AAA batteries.
    It was in 1/12 scale. It had tiller steering and real rubber on red plastic wagon wheels.
    We did assemble one in running condition.
    The company also produced a motorized 1932 hot rod in the same color and scale a few years later.
    I still have the 32 deuce convertible intact with steering. Again,no name on this either.
    Does these kits ring a bell? I've never run into either since I started to collect again in the 1990's thanks

      Hum.. a curved dash Oldsmobile. And a Duce. In 1:12. Battery. ITC made a line then.. (Ideal Toy Corporation). They were “1:8 scale”. But smaller than real 1:8. More like 1:10. Just not sure on this…

Repeated emails and calls to the company with same scripted response.... They have Escalated my inquiry and will get back to me..... Also....as per company policy even though they cannot supply the remaining parts, they WILL NOT REFUND FOR THE FIRST 7 packs... So basicly Ive got around $1000 worth of parts I can wipe my ass with.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup. I like to buy the whole thing or nothing. In this case 1-10. But we haven’t started yet. In fairness, I did buy a car that had significant damage, and I was able to order new parts for a kid that I’ve been out of production for quite some time to replace the parts that were damaged and they sent me those if you will, so that I could repair the broken car and it went perfectly. Lots of problems come up. That’s why I prefer to just buy the whole at once or nothing.
