Even though he played a funny guy I wouldn't call him a funny guy lol true Goodfellas fans will understand this. Also, he's the only actor that plays gangsters so well because he almost was one in real life. Show business saves lives I guess depending on what life you decide to live.

They changed a lot too. There was no pimp Lester, Lefty used to beat the piss out of his wife.. Spilotro and his brother wasn't beaten to death and buried alive. They were shot in a basement in Illinois and then buried in a cornfield. They were lured there thinking his brother was being made. Lefty was black booked as well.

Easily one of if not the greatest gangster movie of all time and even Michael franzese says iit's one of the most accurate films relating to the life that and goodfellas he said those 2 are the closest to being the most accurate portrayals of the life
Goodfellas had one of the best casts of any gangster film ever produced.
I prefer Casino. Goodfellas has not ONE redeeming character and their real life counterparts are absolute pond scum.

I’ve lived in Massachusetts all of my life. When you’re from Massachusetts, at some point in your life, you’ll bump into someone with ties to either the Winter Hill Gang or Bulger himself. For me it was that Whitey’s nephew worked as an aid for disabled students at my school. We’ll call him Adam. Like his uncle, Adam was insanely good-looking and charismatic. There wasn’t a person who worked or are red my school who didn’t have a crush on this guy, me included. He was smart too; a total triple threat. He would tell the kids stories about how the FBI tapped his phone and was always asked questions about where his Uncle Jimmy was. Only that he had only met Whitey once...when he was 2.
There is a scene in Black Mass where Whitey is sitting at the dining room table at a Christmas party. At some point someone brings up how Whitey’s brother has nine kids (typical Irish Catholic family.)
That’s Adam’s dad and siblings the movie was talking about! The fact that the people who made the movie included this showed me that they did their research. But it also scared the ever living shit out of me.
Remember every year around January the Boston Herald would run a story "Where's Whitey" before he was caught.

Finally Tom Hardy’s performance in Legend is finally getting the more attention it deserves it’s a masterpiece of British cinema.

Armand Assante as John Gotti in the 1996 film Gotti by HBO. One of the best portrayals of a real life gangster/mafia boss. Assante was excellent in bringing John's larger than life personality to the big screen. All around a great film with a great cast and yet not even mentioned on your list.
American gangster # 1 for me.
I have always loved gangster movies, and the screenplay, music, lines, drama, and the maverick embodiment that took over Denzel was epic.

Ray Stevenson from kill the Irish man was great. Michael shannon as Ice man was incredible. Tom hardy as Forest Bondurant was bad ass a.f.

Pesci, DeNiro, Liotta or Paul Sorvino could have gotten it for Goodfellas. I’m going way back but Jason Robards as Capone inThe St. Valentines Day Massacre was excellent.

My honorable mention goes to Michael Badalucco as Babyface Nelson in O Brother Where Art Thou. Sure it's more a parody of George, and sure it's a little bit anachronistic since the film is set 3 years after his real-life death, but the bipolar bank robber's rants are just a blast to watch. In real life, he and Dillinger robbed a bank at my good home-town, and I was quite surprised to see him make an appearance in the historical odyssey comedy... Oh, George, not the livestock!

That’s a great movie Black mass I saw that movie Twice in theaters with my father I even got the movie great movie, and those other Gangster movies are awesome too, my father new some of the real Gangsters in real life How he knew them he was a cop and a Correction officer and some of them were Locked up in his Prison where he worked at.

Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro are the perfect and best actors to portray mobsters. I was totally impressed with Tim Roth. I'm used to seeing him in Quentin Tarantino movies, but he's spectacular in everything else he does. He portrayed spree killer Charles Starkweather very well.

Just change the title to "20 movies you MUST watch before you die". Everyone of them is excellent (19 are. Haven't seen the french one, but I'm sure it's great too)

I really liked Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger. I read the book in anticipation for the movie and while I liked the book Black Mass, I feel it was a more visceral experience on screen, even if some stuff was cut out for time.

The problem with Liotta's performance as Hill is that everyone agreed he exaggerated his role and place in that mob outfit and downplayed just how bad his drug habit got. Also, there was a reason why he was not involved in the heist. No one trusted him to be sober when it went down
Good list for the most part. I can quip with the order but 1 omit is glaring. Armand Assante in the HBO movie "Gotti" was awesome. And I don't know having Ray Liotta no. 1. If you're going with a Goodfellas gangster, Pesci or Deniro before Liotta.

No mention of the 90's version of The Krays with Martin and Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet playing The Kray Brothers? I enjoyed their version a lot better than Hardy's.
Totally agree. Hardy played Ronnie for laughs and Reggie as a bit of a loveable rogue. Nothing could be further from the truth. They were ruthless Bastards and while the Kemp brothers don’t look very physically imposing they were far more frightening than the Hardy version.
Oh man, Delroy Lindo's performance as West Indian Archie was top-notch, but a tragic character despite him being good with numbers - even in the business he was in and doing drugs...he could have been something more - an accountant, a professor, anything more...the way he checked out, was tragic...
