Just saw this, and it's now my favorite version. Can't believe I never saw it before. This is especially great. He hasn't fully transformed as a person yet, as he still doesn't understand why they are celebrating!
I saw this movie in the theater when it came out. I was 9 years old at the time. I enjoyed it, but my favorite version is the 1951 film with Alastair Sim.
I know the whole premise of this movie is scrooge's character development, but this is by far the greatest turning point of the story. We truly see the root of scrooge's problem. He's alone, and though he won't admit, he just wants to be accepted by the people around him as shown by happy he his when he thinks the people are cheering for him. Similarly as he was with the ghost of present when he tasted the drink of life he realized what he was missing his whole life from when he was young the happiness that having friends can bring. I can't help but get a little misty eyed when scrooge sings along and thanks them.
I love this analogy honestly been seeing myself in Scrooge as of late I’m writing about it. Blowing kisses to the viewers of the blow of affliction there’s a diction within infliction see you see me with all my dignity seeing what I’m doing everything inside brewing I blow my kisses to you not a whole lot you can do when I try to love you when I try to love you when I try love you when I try love you and you try to love you You try to love you You try to love you Blowing kisses to me too But when you try to love me Not afraid of me I let the beast free can’t see you see virginity I’m afraid to be anything but me Mercy the destiny to set the blow of affliction free You’re seeing what I’m doing everything inside me brewing See me how you want to see me from nothing you’ve done to me I’ll be dissonant Blowing kisses to the viewers of the blow of affliction
Lovely reading these comments of how much this film means to folk. I was born in 1972 England and I must have seen this flick when I was about 9 then EVERY Christmas there after we had to watch it on TV as a family, it was as much part of our family Christmas as the Turkey and presents. Childhood is now over, mum n dad have sadly passed on, all there are is memories and the tradition of still watching this wonderful film ever Christmas with my own kids.

My mother loved this movie. I saw it in the theater. She died from cancer in 2011. She was a great mother. Christmas is hard for me but I have my wife, daughter, and Grandchildren
Same here! Not sure when I first saw it, but it’s not Christmas unless I see this film! This song/dance gas always been the best part of the film for me! Poor ol’ Scrooge… if only he knew….🙂

A great film its funny how when you grow up you realise it's not scrooge who is the bad person he was a good business man who was good with he's money it was the public who dance and sing at his funeral with joy because he didn't give them any money and when he did people love him who are the bad people really 🤔

gajda1984 I think because they were seeing the ghost of Christmas future as some kind of demon of hell since at that point that was his future if he didn’t change.
It's funny how he didn't realize that they were celebrating his death and he thought he was all cheering him for what he claimed that he did good but he didn't.

Hugh S No because they borrowed money directly from him and he was the equal to an independent banker. So basically if had a loan with an individual and they died the loan can’t be paid back to a dead person.
@@ruadhrose Actually, the closest scene to this in the book is where a poor young family learn of Scrooge's death just as he is about to foreclose their loan on them and presumably evict them. They are naturally relieved to learn of this, but when the wife asks who will be taking over their debt, her husband is confident they'll come up with the money by that time.
They already did a movie based off of Oliver Twist known as Oliver which was a musical and premiered two years before Scrooge came out in theaters, Oliver came out in 1968, Scrooge came out in 1970
Whether you like the entire movie or not, this song is pure genius!
I really don’t like this version but this song really slaps
Sung and danced by the late Anton Rodgers - a wonderful actor
Best scrooge movie!
I love this movie and Oliver! Both done by the same production company.
I happen to love this version… ❤️
My favorite version of scrooge ever!
Amen to that
Nelson Nunez true
@@orionthefoolish8773, agreed.
It was a great version.
I still like Caine in the muppets, but this song is pure brutal genius!
Has been my favorite version of Scrooge for many years. Albert Finney is absolutely brilliant.
This song and dance scene are incredible. The guy dances on a box on a moving carriage!!! So good!
that's actually very hard to do! wonderful choreography!
Just saw this, and it's now my favorite version. Can't believe I never saw it before. This is especially great. He hasn't fully transformed as a person yet, as he still doesn't understand why they are celebrating!
happy you enjoy it its been a family favourite in my family its now tradition to watch
it every Christmas. WHY? Because I like life! XD
exactly! he is looking the other way when the coffin is brought out and gets the wrong Idea, thinking they are celebrating something he has done

This movie has all great songs but this one is the best!
I grew up with this version. this is 'my' scrooge as much as Christopher Reeve will always be 'my' Superman
Fun fact - the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is also the movie's choreographer; in this number that fact seems kind of symbolic.
He did. His name is Paddy Stone
I absolutely love the end, when Scrooge is all happy and dancing and then he sees the ghost just standing there staring at him….brrrrr….
I adore this movie its not a good holiday season till I can see it!!!
Rest In Peace Sir Albert Finney

This is my fave version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL/SCROOGE....
They did a great make up job on Albert Finney. They made him look really old, even though he was only 34 years old at the time.

Who else is completely creeped out by this ghost? Ghost of Future in other versions just don't evoke the same level of terror.
My favorite version
Anton Rogers played Tom Jenkins.
So hilarious that they're thanking him for dying & he's so clueless that he's singing & dancing right along w/ them! 🤣
Jesus!...my life unfolds before me...😩
100% genius song.
My mum said she wanted to play this at my nans funeral 😆 🤣
JOY!

This is the nastiest song in the history of cinema.
Yeah, but it sounds funny and you can't blame the folks here. Scrooge was a mean, rotten old man.
More appropriate for a production of Oliver. The filmmakers took a quiet, simple story and built it into a blockbuster. And not very well, either.
