- For once we're not involved in any weird mishaps and there's nothing to stress about. It's Spring and I'm living the slow life #boatlife dream tbh. Reading books! Doing some painting! Just having a lovely canal boat time! We move our narrowboat to Brinklow, a beautiful little village where we moor for a while, and we make a big decision about where to travel next. OK , I’m Officially envious. An accomplished photographer/videographer, a lovely storyteller, a gorgeous cat, a clearly supportive, kind partner, all lovely and deserved. But damn, did you also have to be an accomplished watercolorist? As a watercolor hobbyist I truly envy your talent!

I know that feeling you described.
I experienced something very similar as a kid.
I still have this feeling as an adult, but my childhood experience is a powerful core memory.
The biannual “moving of the caravan”.
An exciting occasion when dad would let me ride with him and help out etc.
But this time, he let me stay inside the caravan as he moved it for our neighbours.
There was something different about being inside a domestic space as it moved.
A feeling. A moment.
Something that I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s an incredibly exciting and yet safe feeling.
It’s not easy to describe.

I’ve said it before Kris, but I’m enthralled by the professional eye you bring to every video. I only wish I was 30 years younger and lived in the UK. I’ll have to convince my husband to hire a narrowboat the next time we’re in the UK. 🇦🇺

Hi Kris, thanks for sharing your journey , the towns you visit and the books you read. Is it safe for a woman to travel and live solo on a narrowboat ? I see you have a partner but was wondering if it is safe to continuous cruise on my own@@krisatomic

Other boaters always give you worse case scenarios about places. We have learnt to go and explore it for ourselves and make our own experiences.
Very fair point! Probably the best way is to hear all the opinions and then make up your own mind 🙌
Kris - another soothing episode and some great "flow going"... going on. "The outside changes but it's always home on the inside" - could there be a better endorsement of boat living? And love the fact there is some Hemingway on board..OK its not The old man and the sea but this feels like your own journey of discovery and (to echo Hemingway), a Santiago-like lesson in "what is enough and what can we do without". Loved the use of the light entering the porthole to make a "spotlight" and also the light/dark transition at around 15-30. Great music again - you should really list what you have chosen each time as it is unerringly soporific..... in a good way!!!! - until the next time, keep well both and l look forward to some Ashby insights...

Brilliant mindful quality to your videos. Don’t be put off Coventry basin. We had two nights there last summer, no issues getting there at all and it was a really interesting place to stay right in the heart of the city but in its own little bubble.

Don't be put off going up to Coventry Basin. It did used to be full of rubbish, but since it was City of Culture in 2021 it's been way better. It had a lot of dredging and towpath upgrades prior to a royal visit. We did it early '21 and bounced over a few things under bridges, got stuff round the prop on the way back, and lost steering on one corner due to rubbish on the rudder. Gave it another go this year and had no problems at all, admittedly we did take power off passing through a couple of bridges just in case. Basin can be busy and short of space, but there are moorings just before you pass under the last bridge into it. Worst case you can get there and back in a day from Hawkesbury, as a bonus it's a Silver Propeller location. Give it a go ;)
Really good to know about Coventry, thank you! BUT this is the first I'm hearing about the Silver Propeller Challenge and immediately I NEED to do it. I hope we got something we can use as proof from the Ashby, so we're one down at least 🧐
@@krisatomic We'll be nipping up the Ashby next week from Dunchurch, will give you a wave if we pass en route. Re: the cushion, we don't have one, but.... my sister-in-law did get me an awful "what happens on the canalboat stays on the canalboat" tshirt for xmas. Thankfully my daughter stole it 🤗

Boaters like to moan and pass on gossip, I’ve been into Coventry nearly every year since I got my boat. Yep some bits on the way in I wouldn’t stop, but in the basin at the end is lovely. It’s a good place for some jobs on the boat, shop’s nearby and easy to work on the bow and stern as you can moor at the end.
As you say if we listened to all the bad reviews places get you wouldn't go anywhere on the system. Find your own way, around every corner is something new and exciting. Love your vlog.

Yeah totally, in the same vein we’ve heard a load of issues people have with the Ashby (low water levels, getting badly stuck) but we were absolutely fine when we went. So it all depends of the time, the boat, etc
