    Also… let’s be honest, Facebook groups kinda suck. There is a reason many creators are now building communities on Skool instead. it’s a much better user experience, and much more fun to use. I’m part of a few Skool groups myself and I highly recommend testing it out yourself with the trial. Use my link to get started for FREE: magnates.media/skool

    Gunpei Yokoi was an absolute genius. I really enjoyed seeing a leader touring his company, seeing the potential of a random worker, and bringing his talents to the forefront. Nintendo's story shows intuition, taking gambits, and following a creed. Great video!

    Man you left out the part about wii u. Where it failed hard and the ceo took responsibility and didnt fire anyone saying that he was at the end of the line for approval and it’s his fault. Instead of firing anyone or doing pay cuts for the loss he pay cut himself so everyone can keep their jobs. Then the workers were touched and created the switch.

    I find it a little disappointing that you didn't mention the Nintendo DS at all. At one point it was Nintendo's most important portable console as it had one of the first touch screen technologies, and also started the normalization of wireless technology in multi-player gaming. • @Critirus
      @Critirus 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not even close being influential. Mario 64 was a glorified tech demo, it's not a good game. Zelda was recycled content with worse mechanics than the lttp. Golden eye ran at 15 fps, it's a shit show of a game. Those are just facts.

    • @TheAlphaOmegaX3
      @TheAlphaOmegaX3 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was important as Mario 64 showed that 3D was here to stay and how to do it right. I wouldn't say "the most influential" ever. For its time in early 3D it was absolutely setting a standard. Some would argue that the original Mario Brothers on NES was the most influential. Regardless of ones opinion, Nintendo, in general, has set many milestones and industry firsts that have affected all of gaming.

    • @Gamma0_0
      @Gamma0_0 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CritirusYou're comparing innovations of ~35 years ago to standards of today. Not only that, but saying _Zelda itself_ was recycled content is a huge misunderstanding; this was only true in the case of _some assets_ in Ocarina of Time being reused in Majora's Mask.

    Great video, well put together and a nice introduction for people that knew little to nothing about Nintendo's history. There were two inaccuracies I found on my first viewing of the video, Donkey Kong was NOT always called Donkey Kong, he was Monkey Kong and due to an error in translation the name Donkey Kong stuck. Second, though cited as one of many factors in Mario's development, the former landlord was NOT the definitive source for Mario's name. It's worth noting also that Shigeru has cited his childhood of cave exploration as his main inspiration for creating Zelda. I don't think there's much else if anything to point out other than the video would have benefitted from being a tad longer but it was a good video none the less. Thank you.

    I’ll never forget my elementary and middle school years in the late 90’s/early 2000’s.
    I was the first on the bus in the mornings, and last off after school. You’re looking at about 2.5 extra hours a day just riding the bus.
    In the 4th grade, I got my first game boy along with Pokémon yellow.
    I had so much fun and it really made my bus rides enjoyable.
    Then endless hours on my N64 and then GameCube and then Wii.

    Convenient, you left out one key fact about Sony in chapter 9 in the betrayal is what that betrayal was discovered only now in recent years. They setup a licensing agreement in the contract to mimic what Nintendo did on the cartridges. Any game made on a CD Sony would get 100% of the profits, but as Nintendo was adamant on producing their own media, basically Nintendo would burn, print, pack, seal, and ship all these disc games out for Sony at their costs and Sony would get all the cash. Nintendo would have been wrecked as it's assumed largely most carts would stop being made due to the cheap media of the disc compared to chips. Nintendo had no course to take other than run to another CD maker or just bail entirely, after philips blew it with their design, they ran. Sony in the end even if it was a few years later still crippled them to take the lead.

    How could you not mention the N64?! Nintendo's answer to the 32 bit PS1, the first 64 bit console

    Man, it pains me that my script was rejected. But oh well, it’s for the best. Great video as always and congrats to the new scriptwriter.

      @@joyalpatel6000 no, a while ago they made a community post about new scriptwriter position and to apply, you needed to write a script about Nintendo. I wrote one but mine was rejected as it wasn’t what they were looking for.

    Amazing documentary, thanks for the great work! I love Sonic and Playstation's games but bought Switch for my kids and found out it's pretty decent. Japan's unqiue design quality is amazing for both consoles.

    It's crazy that the same studio to sue Nintendo would end up making Super Nintendo World and The Super Mario Bros Movie.

    Nintendo dealt with the Yakuza for so long, they learned their ways. And it seems old habits die hard.
