    I've watched most of you videos and continue to be impressed, and envious too! Very nice. I"m retired ATC and own a little Cessna but live vicariously as a private jet owner, thanks to you. Fly safe and CAVU to you.

    Being able to fly a private jet over God's country is absolutely magnificent and a blessing! What beautiful views!!! Thanks again for sharing these with us!! I even enjoyed the inverted cockpit view on short final as well..haha. Keep up the great videos, I thoroughly enjoy them. I appreciate you taking the time to do these. God Bless!

    Having had the inestimable privilege of landing several times @ KTEX in a B200, I can tell your viewers that although it may LOOK smooth and easy, there's a LOT going on under the skull. The still-there (but much shallower) dip in the middle of the runway, increased TAS, "aircraft carrier" perspective, sudden elevation changes and attendant visual illusions, vs. tricky mountain winds and the 9000' elevation means that you can quickly acquire a sink rate such that there is not enough air density to gracefully compensate before meeting the pavement. I never greased ANY landings there. So remember, kids - ESPECIALLY at KTEX it's not the pilot's fault, and it's not the plane's fault - it's the asphalt! ;^D
    Back in the late 80's-early 90's, before they came up with the draconian-seeming noise abatement procedures they have now @ KTEX, it was common to come in over Black Bear pass and straight in to 27. The King Air made a Twin Otter-like descent angle (like the one used at the old Avon STOLport) easy and safe. But that dip sure was a challenge to perspective on landing, and on departure, out-climbing it after wheels-up was not a trivial consideration! And nowadays with the noise-abatement - 27 was challenging enough, straight-in, without the sharp turn onto a super-short final at ref plus 15, then getting stabilized before meeting the threshold. I do play it by the book in FS, though. Doable, and I've seen your video that makes it very much a non-event - but I'm glad not to be doing it IRL.
    You don't need ME to tell you that your videos are a tremendous public service - especially to old has-beens like yours truly. Best jet porn on the internet! The only jet in Flight Sim that I've spent money on is the Premier 1. Wonderful videos!

    Enjoy the videos and have subscribed. I have watched you take off on Rwy 27 and land on 9. Is it an illusion or when they built the airport, the top of the mountain was cut off and cliffs left on both ends? Must be interesting with up drafts at either end. Once again thanks for the informative videos.

    Hi Greg I've been watching your videos for two months now and I love spending a hour a day with you, I can't go a day without Premier one Driver time. My question for you is near the tip of the left wing tip and right tip are two things on the leading edge, what are they and what is their purpose? My Eyes always go there and nobody else is asking that question. God bless you and keep driving my wonderful friend, love you..

    The landing approach suggests (to me) landing on a stationary aircraft carrier but without any arresting gear. Even watching I have to consciously remember to breathe . . .

  • @Rsenior1981
    @Rsenior1981 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Using my flight sim (FlightGear on Linux), I did the VOR/DME approach to TEX with 3400 ft ceilings. That was sketchy as heck with no GPS, and was really challenging when you execute the missed approach.

    • @gregmink
      @gregmink  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Russell Senior try the VOR/DME C into KASE. I think you'll find that one interesting. Also the LDA in KEGE.

    • @Rsenior1981
      @Rsenior1981 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've done the one into KASE, and yes, that was even crazier. (Certainly for someone with no training other than TH-cam videos and FAA handbooks!). I'll try the LDA in to KEGE, thanks!

  • @Jessefsd
    @Jessefsd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Greg, the radio altimeter is calling out the "1000" multiple times on final. Is that because of the terrain changing below you? It's not 1000feet above the runway, but 1000 feet to the ground below you right?

    • @gregmink
      @gregmink  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is exactly what is happening. There is a huge chasm before the runway so that's why you get those callouts. And then you hear how quickly the 500' callout occurs before landing indicating very steep terrain below.

  • @BobSmith-uu5kj
    @BobSmith-uu5kj ปีที่แล้ว

    Bloody bounce, felt victim of the classic narrow rwy late flare syndrome. An easy way to avoid that is to always imagine the same ac type holding short and flare at mid tail height.

  • @lylewood2029

    When you invert w/out a flight suit, where does the blood rush [to] and if you're landing inverted on an inverted runway, would you say, "gear down," or, "gear up?" If I was hungry while flying inverted would I suck down or suck up a banana?

  • @joeycarr1398

  • @BaronBoy100

    Is Telluride a one-way strip? It's a bit hard to assess whether there is room to the east for a circling approach to 27. I realise 6 knots is probably well within the aircraft's downwind limits but given the altitude it must seriously add to your Vref.

    • @gregmink
      @gregmink  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ten knots is the tailwind limit for most jets. It doesn't impact Vref but it certainly impacts landing roll. You can also land on rwy 27, but they want you to stay clear of some neighborhoods so the base leg on the pattern is a bit tighter than usual. You can go to the Telluride airport website and see the noise abatement procedures. whispertrack.com/airports/KTEX

    • @BaronBoy100
      @BaronBoy100 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Premier 1 Driver Thank you for the information and the link. I see what you mean about a 27 approach being tighter due noise abatement.

    • @gregmink
      @gregmink  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Peter- I landed on Runway 27 the other day in Telluride. Unfortunately, my cameras were in the luggage compartment! It would have been a great video....trust me. I'll get it filmed someday.

    • @BaronBoy100
      @BaronBoy100 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Premier 1 Driver LOL, isn't that always the case that when you get to do something different the cameras aren't to hand. Your certainly covering some territory in the Premier, you must be enjoying the extra capability of it compared to the MU-2.

      Premier 1 Driver Absolutely. Keep up the great work! And please do continue showing exactly what actions need to be performed at what point to control/drive/fly a plane, especially in unusual situations. To you they may be trivial, to someone who has never been in a cockpit they are magically exciting. :-)
