  • The St. Lawrence River was flooded in 1958 by the construction of the Moses-Saunders Power Dam. Many communities were lost to the rising waters of the river as well as roads, railways and even a highway.
One of the cooler things to come out of the increased water level of the river was the creation of the chain of 11 islands that form the Long Sault Parkway. Running from Ingleside to Long Sault, Ontario, the road is about a 10km long. There are still traces to be found of life before the flooding, including stretches of former highway 2 that can be seen dipping above and below the waters of the St. Lawrence River.

It's a wonderful ride on a clear sunny day. The Parkway itself is now toll-free, but I believe there is still a fee to be paid somewhere for using the Park facilities: picnic areas, boat launches, etc. Potential users should check first with the St. Lawrence Parks Commission.

it's upsetting to me that the parkway doesn't have a good cycle path. it's literally a dream section of land to ride on. but it just looks too sketchy to me

It would be awesome to see the Waterfront Trail connected along the Parkway. I'm not sure what that would cost to do or if anyone's even considering it. For the most part I didn't find it too bad to ride on, but there were sections where I didn't have any room to maneuver if there was trouble coming. You never like to see those.

did you see any EV CHARGING on your journey?

Both Cornwall and Brockville have a few different EV charging stations in the cities and are on opposite sides of the parkway. Cornwall is the closest around a 5-10 minute drive and Brockville being about a 45 minute drive.
