That’s true, but I mean it is not entirely their fault.
As a business (yes universities are businesses) if you know your customer have unlimited money supply, by that I mean student loan or grants what would you do ?
Anyway some of that money given by rich students (student who did not get in the Financial aid thresholds) go into the betterment of the school, as well as the tuition and fees for poorer students.
I’m one of those poor students receiving grants thanks to my poor statut and good grades. I also try my best to find money here and there by working.
I tried to think about a solution and never came up with one that could actually make the situation better for students. As an individual you should just be careful and not rush through college. Find alternatives that would make your college experience cheaper and if possible without taking any loans. Do not listen to most students saying « you should take loans bro.. » they are dumb just like you are. Sometimes loans are great, but you have to be sure on what you want to do as a career and if the job you re aiming for will give you a good return on investment.

I get that he took out the loans for his education and should pay it back, but us tax payers also bailed out large corporations and even small businesses through the PPP "loan" (which is actually a grant). So if our tax money went towards helping young people get a head start on their financial future, I am all for it.

Also, a loan is not a promise (unless you literally made said promise). It's simply an agreement to borrow money and pay it back at a certain interest rate. If someone dissolves the responsibility of repaying the loan, how is that our problem again? It's not like we stated, "Hey, I'm tired of paying you back. See ya!"

If you overspend on those things you can declare yourself bankrupt so the loan goes away but student loans are forever and the banks know that so it allows for predatory loans. Also, I went to school to be a doctor not buy a fancy car for kicks. The school’s are the only way to become a doctor. Imagine that to get your truck driving license you would have to become indebted for a ridiculous amount and it didn’t matter if your business failed, you still carry the loan. We have a shortage of doctors in part for that reason. I stopped training doctors because it doesn’t pay well even though it is a harder job with more hour requirements. I understand what you are saying and I invest in real estate but I work less as a doctor because my other work pays better. BTW there is a 7 month wait for new patients and people are literally dying to see a doctor but I am tired of sacrificing myself and my family so I am making money for myself instead. Good luck getting that DOT physical without a doctor. Many of us doctors are leaving the field for the ability to get out of debt. I do understand the BS degrees should not be paid but they should be able to default so the banks quit making bad loans.

Yeah, um, do you know what bankruptcy is, child? Because it isnt taxpayers having your debt unloaded unto us so you can double-down on your BS consumer buying habits.
If I borrowed money from you and never paid it back, you think you would be ok with this?

Just cause he says he paid them back does not make it true that these people claim plus Dave don’t mind Cooperate bailouts and ppp loan forgiveness etc

Dave and your thoughts on paying your debt , what about the tax payers picking up the PPP LOAN forgiveness ? And I can go on and on about what my tax dollars has paid that I did not think I should pay like all the bail outs over the years . And to the timing you say over near the midterms, well if the Repubs did not try to stop it this would not be a conversation

Man I hope banks and mortgage brokers have records of people like you so they NEVER approve a loan for anything you need.

Correct me if im wrong i dont have student loans but if you paid them off and they went through with the forgiveness wouldnt you just be reimbursed if you qualified? If so id rather just pay them off now and get reimbursed later.

No. You have to have them outstanding. I had to go back to my borrower, call them up, you have to still have a balance, and then apply. That is the catch.
