  • We hop into the time machine & go back 23 years (that can't be right?) to our fire academy days when we were young whiipersnappers trying to get on the job. We give you all the tips it takes to prepare yourself, and we talk about how far the right attitude will take you. We talk about the stuff we were bad at, & how we improved, how to study, how the instructors act, how to get over your fear of heights, what PT is like, how to get the most out of your academy, & most importantly: how to take the most EPIC class pic & risk burning the back of your head. We also get an LAFD drill tower story. Listen to how we did it & know that you can do it too, or remember your academy days with us.

I’m taking in as much knowledge about firefighting as possible before even being hired so hopefully during the academy I won’t be completely uneducated when it comes to what is what and stuff like that. I appreciate videos like this that really explain firefighting and the real inside of it. Thanks guys for this video. I’ve got an interview in two days with a local department and I am waiting on a call from another department, hopefully all goes well.

Only thing i hate is heights so that's been difficult to overcome but hopefully it'll go away sooner than later. Thanks fora real sit down talk about the realities of what's to come. I worked offshore on a rig and had to go through the industrial firefighting school. Best thing I ever did, gave me the fire bug to go try out for my local fire department here in Texas.

I'm going through a very unique fire department hiring process. It's a countywide department that is just now getting into full time work. They do all their hiring in house (classes of 6-8 people). There was no physical aspect to it. I had an interview 2 days ago and am waiting on the call to see if I'm hired. It was very weird because I thought I'd be going through the whole 2+ month hiring process. I'm hoping I was able to stand out I was a cadet for 4 years in high school, now 21 I am trying to go full time after 3 years off. I hope my confidence and humility, along with work ethic and expressed true passion for this work was able to help me stand out and get hired. Should get a call any day now. So wish me luck.
