For those of you thrown off by this guy saying that you might want to ditch your job so that you can focus on the academy, he is right. I had a good buddy try to juggle both and even though he managed to get by and pass, he regret it. He said he didn't the full effect of things because he was distracted. And this guy was a helluva multitasker, believe me. As for me, I put off the academy for a full year more so that I could bust my ass and pay off my debts, sell my car, buy something reliable and cheap, and then sign up for the academy. I recommend this route. Good luck.
Bruh I'm in the fire academy right now and this video doesn't even START to explain to you the HELL they put your body through. Today my squad and I did ten Squats with the largest water hose from the fire truck then ten lunges then ten burpies for a good neighborhood block, turned around and did the same thing back to where we started. Guys were out of it and unresponsive. And we didn't stop there. There was basket carries with our luminescent inside, tire pulls, and hose running and pulling. And they're saying we're gonna have to do this in fire gear soon.
I have genetic back problems at 22. From my father but my grandfather was into enforcement and military background. It’s my dream to become in some sort of career of that sort. But I feel like my body will give out before my mentality does. I’ve been through some serious camps in my time and I have been a very athletic football player , my uncle is a chief and I want to go ahead and start the process but I want to get as much information as possible. Thanks! I hope you are doing well.
I went thru marine corps boot came then infantry school right after. It's gonna be no different. As a former Marine I can tell you, fire academy, boot camp, whatever. There is absolutely no way to prepare for the mind fuck
I thank you so much for this video man I start emt school August 19 and I’ve been an athlete all my life I had a daughter 2 years ago so I kinda lost my athletic appearance but I’ve always been doing 200 pushups and 500 crunches and calf raises and 10-12 sets of curls and hammer curls but I still feel like I’m nervous as if I’m not fit enough for the academy I look up videos all day just trying too look for answers and you hit it on the spot I hope and pray I can become a firefighter and be the best I can be 🙏🏾
Same I just turned 20 a couple of days ago but for the county I live at they require college courses so I start that at the end of August, just trying to get myself in shape
In Las Vegas area all fire departments start paying you from day zero of the academy. So you don’t need a second job. Unless you are buried in debt which may disqualify you from getting hired. Better have good credit rating. It’s so competitive in this area that they only hire the best and brightest and “cleanest”. They have to, it cost a ton of money to put ONE recruit through training. He is not kidding, recruits start running daily 5 milers plus aerobic exercises plus weights plus job specific excercises. CCFD receives thousands of applicants when they open the hiring process, and hire 30 with an expected drop out rate of 20% due to injuries, academics, skill failure, and lack of never quit attitude.
I’m going to try and put myself through a fire academy this year ( financially ) in the mean time I’m working out a lot and working on getting my EMT license.
a lot of the time cities and towns have some sort of program for students to do that kind of stuff for example here in yuma Arizona we have a fire fighter co-op program that allows students to do ride alongs and gain experience also explorer programs are sometimes available, but sometimes some fire departments allow ride alongs for the public usually these are the volunteer departments
Disengaging from work isn’t possible for everyone which is why I’m going part time. Bills still have to get paid and especially given the last few years financial effect you have to do what you have to do.
Great video! My question is: Is it possible to have time for both the academy and a family with children and how? Of course family comes first but does the fire academy allow part time or maybe night hours? Thanks
That's not how academy works, it's either your family or fire academy. You cannot miss a minute/hrs at an academy. It runs by hours and there's no making up for it, your out.
That is not how it works bunker gear is very expensive and insurance won't cover for your injuries by taking your own gear that's probably used and beat up. That's why every Fire Academy has rental gear that provides safe, clean and trusty gear
No Fire Academy pays you here in California. If anything you have to pay for the training. It will pay off in the future when you look for a firefighter position at a fire station.
It is never too late. I am 30 and pursuing it. Waiting to hear back about starting the academy soon hopefully and I am in the nest shape of my life. Don’t let your mind fool you into thinking you can’t do something because of your age.
Shadaki Wolfen Yeah true but the US Marine Corps doesn't even require 7 minute miles, for most people and most firefighters a 7 minute mile may not be possible, some people in the best shape they will ever be in will never be able to run a 7 minute mile
If you are in any bit of good shape 7:00 minute mile should be easy. For me it is. I run a 5:30 mile but I dont break it down that way. Get a stop watch and time you're laps. A 6 minute mile will require you to run a 1:30 lap. Will be tuff for most but if you finish in 1:00 then you can coast for 30 seconds and Sprint again. This helped me good luck
Yeah right firefighter boot camp in other words a bunch of civilians playing military wannbees but there's one big difference you can't quit basic training and go home but you free to quit the fire academy anytime you want when you went you can't quit the military but civilian firefighters and police officers are free to walk off their jobs and quit anytime they want just like any other local public employees something you can't do in the military!!!😂😂

Jett Blacc sounded like you were playing with the 5 inch
If you think that’s bad just wait lol. How you do in the academy though?
Cute

Joseph Green lol I hope there are no details🙄 I'd rather play fuck fuck games than sweep the parking lot..
Trrruuuuueeeee
It's like boot camp, except you don't live there.
+ZUZAINFINITY I cant wait!
Some you can
Some you have to.

I thought you said 7 miles running, my face dropped so quickly
Same. We gotta both train okay!!
🎯🎯🎯🎯 I'm half way threw my academy and this is spot on !
Got an email saying I’m a candidate for the next process (PAT) and I need to step up my fitness.
Thank you for your videos. this helps me alot! God bless you man
Very helpful! Starting Santa Ana's Fire Academy in 2 weeks!
I’m going to try and put myself through a fire academy this year ( financially ) in the mean time I’m working out a lot and working on getting my EMT license.
How’s it going now?
Same here
thanks I will start doing what u said every day. I am going a firefight progam on Monday.

Sean - Check in with your local fire academy and they'll have fitness standards that you need to be able to meet before attending. Good luck!
Loving that gear and video tips ! Thanks !
Very helpful videos. Thank you so much for them.
Great video! My question is: Is it possible to have time for both the academy and a family with children and how? Of course family comes first but does the fire academy allow part time or maybe night hours? Thanks
Charles Diperri I'd find a volunteer Fire department

It’s possible. A lot of communication between the spouse is needed
it looks like youre laying down on carpet! lol
LOL!
Thank you for that laugh
typically the academy provides that kind of stuff, turnout gear is shit expensive too.
Like Marine Corps Boot Camp
Like being a pro athlete minus the pay
What kind of college education is necessary for becoming a firefighter?
Daniel Pol try to get EMT-B certified before you apply to any academy
Necessary education is a HS diploma... Realistic education is a Paramedic license...
Why do you have turnout gear before FF 1?
what are the average run lengths, while at the academy? 2-3 miles?
If your going to Fire Academy, would it be wise to bring your own turnout gear and scba equipment?
That is not how it works bunker gear is very expensive and insurance won't cover for your injuries by taking your own gear that's probably used and beat up. That's why every Fire Academy has rental gear that provides safe, clean and trusty gear
Don't have a job? Wtf you expect people to be homeless??
Giojo 69 Most fire academies pay their recruits.
aragorn767 why most? I pay child support and rent and a car note and other bills. I really really want to be a fire fighter
superstankydanky808 I've never heard of a career department not paying their recruits... I even got a stipend when I volunteered.
aragorn767 Ok thank you I appreciate it
down here in florida, you cant get a job as a firefighter unless your fire1 and 2 certified. and fire school is around $4,000.
Do some academy's pay you?
Jeremiah Robles if you’re going to a department academy. Otherwise it’s out of your pocket
97% of academy’s don’t pay you 3 months of training out of your pocket plus the EMT training
No Fire Academy pays you here in California. If anything you have to pay for the training. It will pay off in the future when you look for a firefighter position at a fire station.
Already quit my pursuit of becoming a FF, gonna be 27 in nov, I feel like from zero to hero is a little too late for me. Waited to long in life
It is never too late. I am 30 and pursuing it. Waiting to hear back about starting the academy soon hopefully and I am in the nest shape of my life. Don’t let your mind fool you into thinking you can’t do something because of your age.
Im 28 and ex military. I miss the buddies and am gonna give FF a shot. well I will complete ...not just give it a shot. You should to!
Dude, what are you talking about? You're in your twenties! I'm 35 and am pursuing this. You've got quite a ways until you're out of your prime...
Don't give up, I was 64 and made it. It's all about attitude
It’s 30 plus dudes in the class killing it. Don’t wait
Can you have a short beard? If not I can understand why.
I'm dumb my answer was in the video haha. Thank you
7 minute mile seems a little bit much
go big or go home

That was what we did in basketball in my high school so even kids do it
I’m not in shape at all, and I do a mile in 4:43, quit being a pussy
algor
Yeah right firefighter boot camp in other words a bunch of civilians playing military wannbees but there's one big difference you can't quit basic training and go home but you free to quit the fire academy anytime you want when you went you can't quit the military but civilian firefighters and police officers are free to walk off their jobs and quit anytime they want just like any other local public employees something you can't do in the military!!!😂😂
Walt King who the fuck cares?
Most departments are half infantrymen or atleast combat arms. What the hell are you talking about?
At least they save people instead of murdering Muslims for the CEO of BP
