- How to access both hidden menus in a BMW 5 Series F10. Similarly on any new BMW so far with the full colour display including everything from F01 onwards. Cheaper models may only have a controller which doesnt move upwards, on these holding left for 15 seconds and performing the same operation after that will unlock the menu. Previous models, from around E60 on, also have accessible hidden menus, but they are different in appearance and the optional CID screen must be installed to get to the second menu. PLEASE NOTE I NO LONGER DO REQUESTS AS I DONT WORK FOR BMW ANY MORE BUT IM STILL HAPPY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS
I have a 2011 535i and when I do the cluster options menu, I get to the system function test and when I select it it doesn't select it just goes back to main menu! Do u know why?
I am stopping at "start system test?", the lights are not flashing, i pressed and press & hold many times, just nothing happen, cant go any further.

thats a good question, im afraid i dont know. i think youll find if you have a good hunt around the hidden menus they only really provide information and testing, not changing anything. bmw dealerships have car programming abilities but im not sure increasing radio frequencies would be one of them. try contacting your nearest bmw service advisor to ask. sorry i cant help more mate

oh ok. to get an update for the nav map bmw generates a massive code for you to input, but it also requires a usb stick or dvd with the correct map update software on it, and only bmw dealerships have them. cant tell you if the hidden menus have an option for checking the nav code for upcoming years, i dont even know if it has this info in the car- it could be like the key codes which are randomly generated and checked using built in ecu software. if it could be done itd be very clever & sneaky
hey my 2011 bmw 535i displays 01/2000 service due would you know how to solve this issue or does it have to do with an update ?everything is ok oil etc. just that pops up help !
difficultly- they have electrics and from memory are hidden from view under some trim in the boot. never done them before but if youre mechanically minded you should be sweet. i reckon with such a new car you should be able to get the work done under warranty though, yea?

cant do it if i understand you correctly. cbs system tied into everything. you can only reset lights when they come up, preferably after doing the allotted service
How do you clear the service menu? Get rid of it.

Disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and reconnecting can be a free and easy first step to try fixing electronic faults. So give it a go if you're able.
The idrive controller is not working. I can do everything but select anything. What options do I have? F01/F02

Hi, when i want to unlock menu, I sum up latest 5 numbers from vin and when i want to confirm code it kick me back to locked menu where are identification, system test etc. It won't to unlock. Any advice? Thank you

Hi guys during this hidden menu their is option that says reboot software or something along them lines what does that actually do?
This menu is for accessing data that is used by the instrument cluster...do not confuse/conflate it with software or data for other systems in the car like navigation or the audio system. The software reset you see listed is to be used for stuff like if you were to replace the fuel level sensors in the gas tank...their data is buffered so that you don't see wide fluctuations in fuel consumption (reflected in the hidden menu as well as the fuel gauge display in the cluster). If you were to replace the fuel level sensors, their immediate data would not be reflected due to this buffering...so if you "reboot" the software, this would remove the buffering to reflect the immediate change of data being received from the fuel level sensors.
Just had my 335i seviced at 20k 3.1 yrs old, by a friends garage. He can't access the electronic service history, but has been able to update oil, filters, brake fluid, etc. but not the service history, using 3 different plug in devices. Any ideas, as the BMW agent wants up to £80 just to access the servive history and update !

it says i should put USB in the USB port
Use the second USB that is in the closet, the USB that is in the closet is for import/export. And the one that you are using is for playback only.
Denis Zhuniqi There is another usb slot in the glove compartment thats is for importing music
I have a 2011 535. My counsel control works from side to side however when I press down it no longer selects or allows me to move through the menu, has anyone experiences this?
Is there a way to enable Tire pressure on display? It will be nice to see the exact numbers on each tire.
That can be coded in. I have it on my 750.

I realise this video is a bit old now but had a quick question for you. My F10 is giving me a drivetrain malfunction and I was able to get to the DTC codes (about 7 of them) through this hidden menu check. Have tried to google these in order to isolate the problem but the descriptions don't make very much sense to me (No message (display, engine speed, drive train, 0xF3), receiver instrument cluster, transmitter DME/DDE). Any tips on how I can get to the root problem a bit more efficiently?

Also, what is the symptom of the issue? Is it just a warning light or does it have an obvious driving issue?

If I reset software. Can that fix light on dashboard abs brakes parking steering. Have. All problems at once all the light come on same time Just star this problem and make car run bad and cut power too.
You can try, but that probably won't fix it. Warning lights and lacking power (going into limp mode) means there is something wrong with the car. Take it to a mechanic and get them to diagnose the issue.

Hi, mine is a 3 series f30. It only has 6 instead of 7 last digits of the vin number. I tried to add those 6 numbers to unlock the car but it didnt work. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks

Hi All, I hope anyone can advise me I was trying to get the error codes on my BMW 650i 2014, I tried to put the last 2 number of the VIN, but unfortunatly the number is not available on the system as the VIN the 2 end number is 93 and the dashboard is maximum 45 then is go for zero automatically.
try to add all your last seven digits together. example: 3+8+4+9+4 = 28

Does anyone know is it possible to get the speedometer showing in the center of the display as well as the traditional Speedo? My street wheel is obscuring the regular speedo which is a problem. Thanks

I think I've had that happen to me before. I'm confident there's no penalization for multiple attempts, and there's only 100 possibilities
At 1:37 the video says you have to add up all the numbers in the last 7 digits of the VIN and the total makes up the 2 digit code

yea, ive had that before. if youre having issues there are no penalties for simply trying every number from 1 to 40 if you really want to get it. it just takes time

Code not working for me keeps on going back to main not unlocking it
Sometimes the code it should be doesn't work. Not sure why, but the long way around it to try all possible codes one by one. I don't believe there's any disadvantage to doing so

kevin rabs try a battery reset (disconnect the battery for half an hour and then reconnect and recheck). if that doesnt work you may have to get it checked out at a dealership
+BMTroubleU the System test does not work for me. if I push the Button i get redirected to the menu
+Alphabeat21 the engine must be switched off in order for the system test to work
try pushing radio on off for about 30 second

wow, no kidding. just checked out your tutorial on the 535. do you ever have any problems if, for example, a customer returns to the dealership for a software update? i suppose if they couldnt play dvds while driving after the update it would be as simple as repeating the process, is that correct? and what price ranges are you charging for it?
BMTroubleU That's correct, if the car goes for service and the dealer upgrades the software then all you have to do is run the unlocking program again. It's $175

it seems like they might not be real codes. they certainly dont have the same alphanumeric makeup as a fault code and after a quick look on the forums i see one of the members has checked his fault codes using a service advisors diagnostic scanner and nothing came up. feel free to take it down to your closest bmw dealership and ask them to check for codes and let me know how you go

BMW coding and programming is a lot better than this. The unlock menu really does nothing. You get information from ISTA/D. You program with E-sys and an ENET cable.
No idea. You have to install ISTA/D but it's not as simple as double clicking and exe and hitting accept until it's done. I never looked at that area since coding. I suggest doing an OBD-II check and a vehicle systems check. If they are ok then you don't need to think about the other special things ISTA/D will tell you, but if you are looking to get into it then reply back because it's a very very indepth process.

It would scroll through the options without me touching anything!
