Haven't seen the prievious parts of the little story but man the audio editing and cinematography on it were dope - headphones showed such depth to the editing can imagine it took a while to put together this video!
There is always something interesting with institutional architecture, it is so cold and industrial and yet it is a refuge of safety and healing. You nailed the liminal space bit! Content of your channel is great and always thanks for taking us on your photographic journeys!
I'm aiming to shoot my first roll of this in a week, so I'm working through a bunch of YT videos for inspiration. Some great stuff here- I think "cinematic" encompasses what I'm hoping I'll be able to come up with!
Hi Teo! It was so fun to see this video! I also shoot film and live in Vienna but the most funny thing is that I live close to AKH but never think about it for night photos. So cool idea
I shot Cinestill 800t for the first time recently. The results were fantastic, even if a bit shaky by hand. I must get a tripod and some more of this film.
I almost loved the photo at 16:10 but couldn't get my eyes away from the ugly fense to the left. Was such a pleasure when the scene at 18:30 came to be - wonderfully composed and truly heroing the atmosphere CineStill brings to life. This was my favourite shot from the roll.
I've been looking forward to seeing you shoot CineStill 800T! My favorite shot is 15:14 , love the liminal space look and the leading red lines...hopefully you shoot more 800T bc this was great!
Ahhh cool, glad you enjoyed this! Ha yes - next episode with CineStill will be in a couple weeks because I also documented the second half of this roll🙌🏼
You might want to check your cable release. Mine has a little ring on it that you are supposed to twist to keep it locked in for long exposures. It always gets twisted just enough to make the cable stick.
If that's the Konica 50mm 1.7, I'm literally cleaning the aperture blades on one of them now. Seems to get oil into the blades and gets gummed up shooting anything other than wide open. They're super easy to open and clean though.
You defo underated the shot at 5:00 its dope! Although it doesn't have the van to focus on it is more a open establising shot of the area with the tall building in the back. Great vid 🔥
Love how CineStill makes everything look like Bladerunner. Though I'm surprised you didn't snap any gas stations, which are kind of a cliche for this film stock to shoot with.
Yeeeah totally! Well I guess that’s a good reason for me to not shoot gas stations… I think I‘ve seen enough of those🤔 Exceeept if it‘s foggy I might get it anyway haha :D
Hi. I really enjoyed this one! I feel like we have similar taste when it comes to choosing a location for a photoshoot. A unique, quiet area with lots of subjects to choose from, but seldom does it involve people. I mostly do zoom photography and as I was watching, I saw a few photos that I think would've had a very different feel to them if they were cropped in. Maybe you can do another one of these shoots with a zoom lens? Although it'll be pretty difficult to do in the dark haha. Cheers!
Great video as always. Oh my goodness it is SO frustrating when I go to take a 3-4 second nighttime exposure (in bulb mode) and when I go to release the shutter, the shutter cable is stuck open! Then I’m frantically unscrewing it from my camera, just to end up with a 10 second exposure, it’s infuriating lol! I know that most shutter release cables have that dial under the base of the “button” that by design I think, if accidentally bumped into the wrong position will stay stuck open. Now I ALWAYS make sure the cable is going in and out and operating smoothly BEFORE I screw it into my camera🤣
Hello :) Sag mal wie schaffst du es mit der kamera noch so viel licht trotz der Dunkelheit einzufangen ? Bei mir wären die Bilder alle trotz hoher Verschlusszeit unterbelichtet :D
Love your vids so much, it can’t get any better I think. Keep it up! I have a question tho, in night time photography is it better if I pumped up the aperture to the widest and optimize the shutter, or increase the shutter to 2-3 seconds and optimizing the aperture to that? Thanks in advance ❤️
Hi Teo, newbie question here. 😅 Say i want to shoot at 500 iso with cinestill 800t, does it mean it’s for the lot (36 exposures) or I can set my ISO differently on each frame? Thank you for responding!
@@JardineFernandez It depends on your camera. If you‘re shooting with a Point & Shoot camera the camera is going to automatically set itself to ISO 800 by reading the film‘s DX code (silver QR-code type of thing in the side of the roll). So you can’t really change that once it‘s in the camera. However with a manual camera, like the one I was using in this video, you have full control and can play around with all the settings however you want. Obviously you technically can’t change the ISO of the film, but you can tell your camera that the film is ISO 500 or 400 or whatever before every shot, no problem☺️🙌
@ thank you for responding. I am still wrapping my head around it! I have a pentax spotmatic to take with me to travel to Japan in the next 2 weeks! Would you recommend that I try out pushing the film to experiment or shoot at box speed? It’s my first time using cinestill 800t and don’t want to waste this pricey film. Thank you for your advice! ✌🏼
@@JardineFernandez Ohh cool! I‘d recommend to just shoot as it is intended or slightly overexpose to be safe (so for example rating the film at ISO 400 instead of 800)🙌
@ hi Teo, sorry to ask another question. Say i set my camera to 400 iso for shooing cinestill 800.. when I get it developed do I need to ask the person to develop it at 800 or 400? Thank you again! 🙏🏻
Basically in between. I measure the shadows and highlights for them to be balanced, I don’t try to lean too far into one direction. However in scenes like this I might even tend to expose more for the highlights because having dark shadows in a night shot is pretty natural🤔
Next time your shutter acts up just gently replace the lens cap before you give it a poke.this should save your exposure from coming out shaky if done carefully.
Really enjoyed watching this Teo! My favorites were the pictures with the chairs.. Were the chairs there because of a cleaning of the building perhaps?
There are so many beautiful shots in here! It's made me want to try the Cinestill 800 now :) What light meter app do you use/recommend? I haven't been able to find one I actually like using...
Aww thank you so much and yes you should try it, it‘s really a fun film🙌🏼 I can‘t say which is the best🤷🏻♂️ I‘ve used two: „WB Light Meter - Free“ and “Lghtmtr“. Both worked fine for me🙌🏼
I just stumbled on this video and I enjoyed it. Good work. Btw are you from Vienna? I could swear I saw you or someone really similar to you shooting with Leica at Stephansplatz.

Nice to see someone using Praktica TL-s and MTL-s every once in a while.

the shot at 14:54 is perfect - the hallway almost looks like someone had the intention to make it look like a liminal space
Right!? I loved it for exactly that reason🤩🙌🏼

Maybe the shutter got stuck because if the cold? Just an idea but I heard this can happen, and it makes sense if that happens on longer exposures
happened to me
Makes sense. My praktica mtl5b can’t do shutter speeds under 1/15s accurately. Dried lubricants seem to be a common theme on these old cameras.
That camera just might need repairs. It’s 50 years old.

Ohh great, thanks!☺️
The hallway reminds me of the movie, Halloween II.
Looks like its time for me to invest in a few rolls of Cinestill 800T
What is the trigger you are using?
I'm new to photography and all the settings yet so could you tell me what your settings for the first pic were?
Should I turn on the flashlight when I shot at night?
Very nice shots! Which lens were you using? Is that a Praktica MTL5?
