Newt would absolutely *refuse* to use one of his creatures as a shield. They mean more to him than anything.
I’ve just plucked this out of thin air so don’t rip me a new one for this, but what if Newt’s Kelpie wasn’t meant to die. Or, perhaps it wouldn’t be Newt’s Kelpie to begin with?

This got me thinking: what if Grindelwald is only telling Credence he’s related to Dumbledore so that he thinks he wouldn’t be able to fight against Grindelwald due to the blood pact, considering they have the same blood?
You might have a point as in other examples of blood magic (other works and historical writings)anyone related by blood can brake the spell/curse.
That is a good theory. But the feniks at the end of the crimes of grindelwald proves that he is a relative of Dumbledore!

If this theory is true, then it means that Dumbledore dueled voldemort with a wand which does not obey him. And still Dumbledore came on top. So does this mean that Dumbledore is way more powerful than voldemort.
I see it as the Elder Wand being no more powerful than an ordinary wand for him. They were equal in power but Dumbledore was simply too crafty for Voldy to ever win.
honestly this theory fits super well with the latest master of the elder wand video where it simply picks the more powerful wizard, so newt giving the wand to dumbledor would allow the wand to change its alligence
This is interesting when it comes to Newt owning the elder wand. It makes me wonder when we see the "easter egg" of newt showing up on the marauders map, that he was there visiting to discuss the wand with Dumbledore. That would make so much sense! An extra little detail we didn't think of in Dumbledore's master plan. Also, if Dumbledore in the first book spoke to Nicolas Flamel to sort out the stone, why wouldn't he meet with Newt to discuss the wand.
I think that had more to do with Newt trying to help Dumbledore and Hagrid save Buckbeak, but that would be an awesome explanation too!
Newt heard of Buckbeak's impending execution and so showed up to save him, but Dumbledore told him he has a plan.

I've been trying to live by those words... I worry about pretty much everything.
Newt's Patronus (my theory): A human being. Newt doesn't see us as separate, but he knows that humans too are a "fantastic beast". Therefore, his patronus is human.

For anyone who didn't understand the scenario that Ben talked about (I had to watch it a few times)
The Kelpie is disguised as Newt.
Newt is disguised as Dumbledore.
Dumbledore is not there.
Grindelwald Avada Kadavras the Kelpie that is pretending to be Newt.
The Kelpie dies.
But Newt is alive because he is actually pretending to be Dumbledore.
Grindelwald casts that spell that he cast on Newt before.
Newt reveals his patronus.
We suddenly figure out that it's Newt.
Newt becomes master.
Boom.
But what’s the point of having the kelpie pretend to be Newt? It doesn’t accomplish anything. Newt could pretend to be Dumbledore without the kelpie being involved at all.
It has to be the Kelpie to make the Kelpie relevant, and to make us actually believe that it’s Dumbledore who is fighting Grindelwald.

I'd like to think one of Dumbledore's 12 uses for dragons blood was finding a way to destroy the blood pact. Dragon blood > then human blood. It would be nice to have Newt be more important though.
newt could be essential in obtaining dragon blood somehow. I am not sure on the difficulty of obtaining it, but i would imagine someone who can tame incredible beasts would be useful for that. (Like i said maybe it’s really easy for them to get, in which case this doesn’t work haha)

This is the funniest thing I’ve heard all day.
Personally, any version of the duel in which Dumbledore himself doesn’t defeat Grindelwald will be massively disappointing to me. I seriously doubt they would write it like that.
I think it would be epic because it shows that sometimes its not about power being the most important thing, sometimes it comes down to fighting smarter not harder.
And would show that Dumbledore's true power is the ability to work with and care for others.
Dumbledore, in that sense, does win the duel. Because its the fact that he can care for others, love others, and work with others on a mutual level that truly makes him better than Grindelwald.
Their both equal in raw power, but while Grindelwald uses fear to control people, Dumbledore makes true connections. He doesn't control people like Grindelwald, he works with them. He wins the duel because in the end it is dumbledores love and understanding that it takes more than one person to truly change the world that allow him to win.
Grindelwald develops an army, while Dumbledore develops a team.
I love this theory but I can’t imagine Newt willingly letting one of his creatures be killed. Especially right in front of him.

Why would Dumbledore let Harry stay at the Dursley’s? Because he read in a musty book that blood magic is powerful? Even if it is quite the easy place for any Death Eater aith revenge at heart to get in there and thus requires special consideration to be put.
No, Dumbledore is a man of action and experience. He experienced the power of love and blood magic, and that is how he knows it to be so powerful. He would thus be the first One Who Lived, but could never tell so to protect the ownership of the Elder Wand.
He looks after his followers, but is not specially fond of them. They are assets; he gets their respect and he knows how to get them doing what needs to be done. But Harry is special, different. He feels a connexion with him, and part of it may be because of this that sets them apart.
I think dumbledore read Newt's mind using legilimens and told him that if he doesn't want the wand dumbledore could take it and so he POLITELY disarms Newt and the plot goes.

@@MisterMinato But, Dumbledore planned to die undefeated. By a long-standing reasoning, the Elder wand line would have died with Dumbledore if he had died the way he wanted, planned at Snape's hand. However, he was weakened and trying to protect Harry, so Draco disarmed him successfully first, thus defeating him.

Canon is: Draco disarms Dumbledore, Harry disarms Draco and uses Dracos wand, which the elder wand recognizes, to disarm Tom Riddle.

So a) Newt is able to defeat one of the greatest wizards ever whilst that wizard had the elder wand and b) Dumbledore commits a lie of omission to Harry in King's Cross for no reason at all? I would hope they wouldn't undercut the end game of HP just so that the payoff of Fantastic Beasts is that Grindelwald kills a seaweed horse.

well what's got me not believing this theory is, doesn't Dumbledore's sister die in the battle and his brother is present during all of that. i could be wrong but i thought that was a big grieving point in his life. Because he was unsure who cased the spell that killed her.

So if the blood pact is never destroyed and it’s one of the objects they come across when they’re cleaning Grimmold Place in Order of the Phoenix , how exactly does it wind up in the Black family home?
He was referencing the discovery of Slytherin's locket in book/movie 5 that later became relevant in books 6 and 7.
@@storytellingsnek5255 he also referenced that it was one of the objects they encountered in the blacks home. He did mention slytherins locket, but also mentioned the blood oath pendant.

He mentions both Slytherin’s locket and the blood pact. He was saying how we first encountered the locket in book 5 and then it became super important. And that what if the same were true for the blood pact? In the same paragraph that she first describes the locket, but we don’t know the importance of, the object that’s described right before the locket is described sounds exactly how the blood pact looks. He’s was saying “what if we actually encountered THE blood pact all the way back in Order of the Phoenix, in the exact same paragraph in which Slytherin’s locket I’d first mentioned?” Assuming that Dumbledore is never able to destroy it, my question was how did the actual blood pact between Dumbledore and Grindelwald wind up in Grimmold Place, un-destroyed nearly fifty years after their famous duel took place?

And I love the theme of it, it shows that the true way Dumbledore is stronger than Grindelwald isn't due to any raw power, but rather that he has the ability to genuinely care and respect others.
Grindelwald wants to make an army,
while Dumbledore wants to put together a team.

I Mean,Pretty Much. She Did't CREATE Most Of The Things In The Series: She Just Took Things From Different Mythologies And Mixed Them All Together. Even The Spells Are All Just In Latin.
Being from Scotland, there's a decent chance that she knew about kelpies as a child
To make a spell, all you need is to be a wizard/witch and know Latin

THEORY:
It just ran through my mind as I was watching this video when it was mentioned that Newt's patronus could be a kelpie. That reminded me that patronuses could also take form of a magical beast too. So, since that is the case, there is a high change that it could be, wait for it - a salamander. Let me explain:
JK Rowling described patronuses as "saviors" or "protectors" of magic users that summon them through a spell. They can take form of a being that represents the casters true nature (as with marauders) or they can take form of a being that represents a person or another being that the caster has a bond with (Tonks' patronus turned to wolf when she married Remus and Snape's was a doe that represented Lilly whom he deeply loved).
So, how does this bring me to the idea that Newt's patronus could be a salamander? "Wizards and Lizards". Here's what I mean:
1. Newt is a sort of lizard and guess what - salamanders are magical lizards.
2. His last name is "Scamander" which sounds awfully similar to "Salamander"
3. When he was talking to Tina, his love interest, he compared her eyes to those of a salamander. If that isn't ringing bells, I don't know what is.
4. The fact that salamander is a magical creature doesn't prevent a patronus from taking it's form.
I hope you'd like this theory, please, help my comment get noticed, I'd really like my idea to get to J and Ben, I'm really interested in what they have to say about it.

Yeah, salamanders are real animals. Not magical beings. Look them up. They're aquatic lizards.
Other than that, this theory is possible. Though, considering the patronus is supposed to be a "spoiler" for the remaining movies, I don't think it will be a salamander. Simply because that's *way* too obvious with all the "foreshadowing" and "context clues" to be considered a spoiler.
Fun Fact: In Hungary his name is Göthe Salmander

My brain now hurts... So JK either is a master of story telling in such a way that entwines tiny details in the books written years and years apart, or J and Ben are phenomenal at picking out said tiny details and theorizing them into extreme significance. Either way my brain still hurts. 😂
I refer you to your earlier video, "How Dumbledore Will Destroy The Blood Pact | Harry Potter Theory." If Dumbledore was never the master of the Elder Wand, how did he repair Hagrid's wand? Also, I believe that the blood pact never protected Grindelwald; it only protected Dumbledore.

This has nothing to do with the kelpie theory, it is a general doubt or concern about the FB story lines. If a blood pact is indestructible, why is Grindelwald afraid of Dumbeldore so much so that he wants to get Dumbledore killed by Credence (allegedly his brother...)?
Because Albus could obstruct Grindelwald's plans without technically causing harm to Grindelwald personally (and thus violating the pact). Heck, maybe the duel could take place with the blood pact undestroyed, if both are simply dueling to incapacitate. We already know how much Harry likes to disarm his opponents whenever possible. And there are spells like Impedimenta and Stupefy that can stop someone from fighting without harming them.
We already know Credence isn't Dumbledore's brother, the incident between Dumbledore's brother causing the death of their sister had already happened which discards him completely from this theory.
Grindelwald is afraid of Dumbledore as a threat not to him, but to his followers, he would be able to single handedly fend off many of them along with the Ministery.
Is anyone else distracted by Ben's mustache? Like one side is connected to his beard but the other side isn't.
