@Blister yeah but making the most popular, likable version of yourself doesn't necessarily equate happiness if the validation that you seek from others starts to significantly wane and you actually end up hating this version of yourself that doesn't seem like the genuine, real you. i'd personally find it exhausting to keep up this persona after a while and be a little scared of losing myself.

Given we are talking Snapes grandparents, Queenie could totally be on his nonmagical side. If his dad was actually a squib I could see the couple changing their name to escape notice by US authorities. If Jacob has no powers and their son has no powers it could have simply been easier for Queenie to pass as a muggle than to drag her nonmagical family around the magical world. She could have still been active in the wizarding world, but on a smaller scale. Her son could have even known about her powes when he was old enough to keep the secret. Maybe he resented it which later explains why he is a bad father. His powers skipped a generation, leaving Snape with abilities he would have had if he had been magical too. The resentment towards Snape would have been overwhelming.

I definitely see some merit in your thinking, especially about the resentment Tobias Snape (squib son of Queenie) would have had towards his son Severus. Look at how resentful Petunia was that Lily was magical and she (Petunia) was not.
Another alternative is that both Jacob and Queenie die after Eileen's birth, and she's adopted by a pure-blood family named Prince.
The problem will all these theories (including mine) is that Queenie and Jacob live in the USA, and Eileen and her son Severus live in the U.K. Not sure I really see a good reason for Queenie and Jacob moving to Great Britain.

When JK says that Snape mastered a natural ability he probably also mastered occlumency for two reasons.
First to make sure that his family wouldn’t know what he was thinking.
“Little Sevy would you like some more food” Snape not liking his grandmothers food replies “oh no thank you grandma Queenie, I am so full” yeah there would be problems with that.
Second think about all the trouble Queenie gets in with her power. I do not think it would be fun constantly knowing what others are thinking. Snape being bullied through his time at school no longer wanted to know what others thought of him so he trained to turn is power off and on at will, something we have yet to see Queenie accomplish.

I’ve heard your request, ied heard the counter when you think we will say no and the counter to that counter”” Garibaldi gets angry that his mind had been read “”I didn’t read your mind I didn’t have to, have you any idea what it’s like to have build walls in your mind and dumb down our natural gifts just so we don’t have to listen to what you are broadcasting so loudly it can be heard all the way down the hall””

I also realised while watching this. Snape is probably the the only one that gets the closest to having Voldemort's trust and the only time Voldemort seem to show affection is in Nagini and Nagini has history with Queenie... just and interesting random thought to add to this theory.

Snape being more amazing at Occlumency than Dumbledore doesn’t mean he had a natural, genetic knack for it. When he turned on Voldemort, his life literally depended on being able to block the Dark Lord from reading his mind should he ever return to power. So Snape was probably EXTREMELY motivated to get really, really freaking good at this skill. He’s better than Dumbledore bc he probably spent waaaaaaay more time practicing.
Plus we know that Snape is a creative and innovative wizard who spent his free time as a teenager inventing new spells and finding better ways to brew potions. He probably applied that same ingenuity to Occlumency.
Snape is an accomplished wizard because he works hard, not bc he inherited magical abilities from his ancestors.

    • @thelegend1801
      @thelegend1801 3 ปีที่แล้ว

No way Snape's better than Dumbledore at Occlumency. Snape was with Dumbledore for almost 14 years before Voldemort returned to power. Dumbledore could've taught Snape a load of stuff in that time. Even an old and much weaker Grindelwald was able to stop a Voldemort at the height of his power from breaking into his mind. How much better could anyone's Occlumency be? Given that Dumbledore and Grindelwald were almost equals, Dumbledore must have been as good as occlumency if not better than a Grindelwald in power. Dumbledore wasn't even looking at Harry almost the whole of OOTP, so there's no way he could've taught Harry Occlumency. And Dumbledore and Voldemort seemed to make out what Harry was thinking without him seeing glimpses of stuff, though Harry could see what Snape saw in his head. Dumbledore was the greatest wizard of modern times, and Snape never was and will never be near his level of power.

I would love an explanation for this line:
"You'll forgive me Dumbledore, but I've heard of a curse scar acting as an alarm bell before..."
This is spoken by Fudge, in the chapter The Parting of the Ways in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (page 613 in my edition of the book). Harry is in the hospital wing following the third task and Dumbledore is arguing with Fudge, trying to convince him Voldy is back.
Fudge calls into question Harry's reliability as a witness, citing Skeeter's article where she used the pains in Harry's scar as evidence that "his brains may have been addled," and Dumbledore explains how he believes the scar hurts Harry when Voldy is nearby or angry. Fudge responds with the quoted line, but is cut off before he can continue.
This implies that (1). someone else had a cursed scar that they claimed did something similar, (2). this case was well known enough that Fudge could vaguely reference it, assuming that Dumbledore would understand, or otherwise was linked to Dumbledore somehow (i.e. a friend etc. of Dumbledore's) and (3). that the "warnings" given by this other curse scar were false, giving Fudge reason to doubt Dumbledore's explanation for the pains in Harry's scar.
Who possessed this other scar? What curse caused it? What did they claim it warned them about? How were they proven wrong? I would love to hear any explanations that anyone has (especially J and Ben's!).

I mean, humans mimic animal sounds all the time and millions of humans have tried all sorts of methods they could to understand different animals and communicate with them from studying how the animal communicates, trying to teach the animals a human language and using different pieces of technology. And yet there isn't a class i can take or a software to use to translate word for word what the neighbours dog is saying to me nor to teach me how to communicate back in barks. Sure I can assume he's saying hi and can greet him with a hello through the fence... but if i was to understand him or mimic him for all i know I could be calling his humans names or threatening him or his family.
just look at it this way. When Harry himself speaks parseltongue... he doesn't know he is and cannot accurately translate his own words or the snake's into either tongue. So its doubtful that he could teach others how to communicate with snakes... especially since it's theorised he lost that ability when voldemort died. @clodaghstraum7745 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@Bec Butts Half blood status is referred to the blood status (parentage) of an individual and not the magical ability.
Muggles are normal people who have no capability of performing magic and are born in non-magical family. Now when a wizard/witch is born to Muggle parents (both father and Mother being Muggles) they are referred to as Muggle-borns, like Hermione. Derogatory term being Mudblood
Someone whose ancestors in their line through father and mother (including their father and mother) are capable of performing magic like to term themselves as Pure blood indicating that they have no muggle born ancestors in their family tree, which is very unlikely. Also in some cases, where it may be true, it results in excessive inbreeding and you can check on the history of Pharoh as to where it would ultimately lead these families.
Now, Half blood would be someone, who has both wizarding and muggle in their family tree. It is said that by 1990s almost all the witches and wizards were half blood as Pure blood would simply have gone extinct if they wouldn't have married with some muggles.
Most notable three distinctions of Half bloods are (with examples):
Pure or Half blood Parent and Muggle Parent like Severus Snape, the actual titular Half Blood Prince (muggle father and witch mother)
Pure or Half blood Parent and Muggle-born Parent like Harry Potter (muggle-born witch mother and wizard father)
Magical parents but with muggle ancestory like Teddy Lupin (who has muggle ancestory through his mother Tonks who had Edward Tonks, a muggle born wizard, as her father)

They aren't in the Sacred 28, and if Ben's theory of changing their name is correct, it also wouldn't be a far stretch that they would want to make Jacob seem magical, too, so they falsified his blood status. Might be tricky if he would have to prove his abilities, but not impossible.
Or, Eileen, who was 15 at the time of Grindelwald's defeat, could have been the one to falsify her Blood status so as not to be persecuted for having a Muggle father.
