  • Figueroa and Kasai delve into the thought-provoking statements made by Rafael Nadal in response to questions posed by journalists. One question, in particular, sparks a deep discussion: whether rising stars like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have elevated the game of tennis to unprecedented heights. Nadal's candid response, suggesting that the current level of play may not surpass previous standards and could even be lower, prompts Figueroa and Kasai to dig into his viewpoint on the show.

    Tennis is about slim margins making you win matches. Many times matches are won with the winner having just 4 more points. They often show those stats after a match. So Djokovic just needed a few more points to win, which his experience gives him the edge. Everyone compares Fed,Nadal & Djok whole career to the new guys. Lets look at when those guys started in their first few years on tour for an accurate comparison. They didnt dominate those first few years so the whole argument needs to be put into perspective. Both Alc and Sinner beat Djok last year when he had one of best years which does prove their excellence. Djok improvements in his game even if a tiny bit is huge. His serves were excellent, his overheads. Thats enough to win a few more points to win a match. All 3 OG’s started very spotty in consistency. Took Nadal 3 years from when he played his first atp match to win a grand slam. So lets compare them at 20-22 vs the new guys. I grew up with the OG’s - the level of tennis has increased as has every sport over the years with addition of new tech and stats and building upon the previous gen. Each gen has to tip the hat to their previous gen who pushed them. Djok was inspired to push because of new talent in 2023. Its the circle of continual improvement. The level of the field of players has increased in general so its gonna be a harder few years to dominate. We might not see what the 3 Og’s did because of that.

      It doesnt matter if Nole Rafa or Roger were dominating in that age. It only matters if these new players are going to someday dominate as much as Big 3 did. It is just too soon to say that they will ever do. And is a completely nonsense to say they already surprassed the Big 3 level when Novak is still winning the GS and still number 1 with 36 years old. Sinner and Alacaraz are great players but if they arent better than 36 Novak they are still far from the level of his prime and the Big 3 level as whole.

    I agree with Rafa to a certain extent coz the current young players have only just begun to make their mark n still have a lot to learn n a long way to go to even equal the Bug 3 much less surpass them!😮

    Nadal is right Djokovic won 3 grand slams and pkayed in all 4 in 2023 to me shows the level of the atp tour. But at the same time Alcaraz and Sinner not at their best yet.

    Rafa was beating novak when he needed to? 😂
    Dude didnt win a set off novak on hard since 2013 and took 2 sets on grass since 2010. Lol Rafa could only dreamt of winning on clay.

      Your comment is very ignorant and biased, lacks a lot of context and contains false information.
      First of all, Nadal won 3 sets on grass, not 2, and lost 6, they only played 2 mathes on grass since 2010. Both matches were competitive.
      Second of all, Nadal beat novak on hard court twice in 2013.
      Third of all, vast majority of their hard court meetings came in 2015-16 (absolute worst years in Nadal's career), so that record is inflated. For example, they didn't play 2017 when Novak had a bad year and Nadal was in form. If they would of played as many times that year as they did in 15-16 (worst Nadal's years), the record would of been different.
      Last of all, why do you choose those specific years? Are you choosing them to fit your argument? Lol... Why not 2008, or 2007? Oh yeah right, because Nadal Nadal beat novak on grass twice thise years, it doesn't fit your argument, lol.

    Nadal is absolutely right here- Djokovic is the greatest player ever, and his results may never be topped. Untill Sinner or Alcaraz gets 23+ GS titles, there is no discussion.

    Nadal needs to come off it.
    But, with that said, what makes a top player is different and this is partly Nadals fault. Instead of shot making, IQ, precision, reaction time, drop shots, trick plays, serve and volley, it's become fitness, leg span, sliding, stamina, on clay compound the issue. This is why I loved Federer vs Nadal so much, Federer was more like classical tennis and Nadal was the beginning of modern tennis. Nadal was faaaaar faster and more fit than Federer, but Federer was always taking one less step and had an insanely high precision and IQ. For me that will always be a classic matchup. Same with agasse Sampras but then we're going way back.

    Alcaraz is an exception...he is the most entertaining player in the game today

    • @bonzwah1
      @bonzwah1 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      He is super entertaining, but that is largely because his weaknesses as a player lead to more entertainment haha. Weak serve but powerful forehand and great movement means that he needs to create highlights just to hold serve. He also doesn't find good depth very consistently when he playing defense. So his opponent is never made uncomfortable and can keep up the offensive pressure...but this also creates highlights as alcaraz scrambles and slides at the speed of sound to stay in the point.
      He is a very exciting player...but not because he is oppressively the best. Just because the nature of how he wins his points and how he manages his weaknesses naturally creates exciting tennis points.
