How often do you fertilize your orchids with this rice solution? Thanks.

You can do it weekly. I do it much more often since i have an abundance of it. I do it every 3 days or so.

I soaked rice water. Rinsed three times. Then immediately lightly watered orchids. But this time I left the plants in sun window and sugar ants came through window screen. They’re now enjoying this sugary treat. Ive watered my orchids like this for years but unfortunately didn’t think about the summer heat and window open. What can I do about these sugar ants on the orchids without killing the plants? Also, can you further explain why the rice water is attracting the sugar ants as I thought the rice water would repel insects. I know ants have a good relationship with orchids but I’ve also read that too much can damage. Would you please advise?

Rice water contains sugar, hence why u have sugar ants. If you grow indoors and want to get rid of sugar ants, just mix sugar with borax powder, leave it in a water bottles, opens the caps. Sugar ants will carry the borax home and kill the nests.

Dear Cam, How many days do I need to keep the rice water in rest before applying it?

Hello, the rice should be fermented for 3-5 days depends on your temperature. Once fermented, it should have a sweet scent.

@@EZOrchids Oh. IF it stinks and has mold you should not use it? (it has been fermenting for maybe 3 weeks) !

@offplumbnan7562 if there's a white film on top, it should be fine. Make sure to dilute it to prevent root burns since it's been fermented for a while, and it became a bit potent. If there's like black mold or any other color, it still can use just make sure you have good air circulation. For orchids outdoors, I don't see any problem. Indoors, I would be cautious.
