    I am 100% with Dimitra, with this addition: for EVERYONE-not only artists-asking friends /people who KNOW you to proofread your professional writing is more important than getting an editor or even (ah, my love) using Grammarly. Having the corrections to spelling and whatever is important if you want to be taken seriously, but FAR more important than that is having someone you trust say, “tell me more here…” or “I love this-it sounds JUST like you!”
    That will help you improve your authentic voice in your writing faster than any class. That’s core to finding and communicating your brand.
    And I was an English teacher 😂

    Can you guys talk more about your daily or weekly schedule at a glance? Like what does it take to operate at your level. How often do you guys record/paint/teach/admin/etc?
    Do you guys meet at the studio at a certain time each day? How scheduled/planned/organized are you guys?

    • @milanartapp
      @milanartapp  ปีที่แล้ว +25

      These are fantastic questions! All of our weekly schedules are different. Dimitra paints around 20-30 hours per week, films around 10 hours per week and has a workshop every other week. She probably spends around 15-20 hours per week doing admin/marketing. We meet every week on Mondays and Fridays to plan and recap/strategize. We're typically planned out for 2-3 weeks, but are working towards being 2-3 months planned out in advance.

    • @anabalcazar959
      @anabalcazar959 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great question, I think each one finds its own rhythm or aims to find it depending on its particular situation, but if you have to work only on your art, you can spend all day doing your thing. I can paint per for several months without stopping, like 4, then I spend a month resting from painting and doing social media, website, and another traveling and two weeks teaching because I love it.

    This was sooo good! I was super into art when i was younger. My artistic pursuits took a backseat to motherhood, but i got back into painting about a year ago. I've only done a few pieces since then, but everyone that's seen my work tells me i should be selling it. I'm an introvert through and through and admittedly had no clue where to even begin. The was super insightful. Thank you for taking the time to do this episode and every other one you've done this far. I greatly appreciate you all!!!

    This was a really Insightful video on the important topic of : "how to become a professional artist"
    Some of the Key takeaways that resonated include:
    1.) That both an Identity & Mindset shift are necessary to start to perceive ourselves as Business owners.
    And thereafter, that one should adopt a freelancer-mindset and treat the creative work that we engage in, like a business, in the sense that we are curating creative content for an external audience.
    2.) That one of the keys to unlocking creativity in our lives is to learn how to use & operate in the right brain.
    3.) That we need to apply focus to acquire Skills & get good, if we want to get Far and to evolve into the person who we have always been designed to be.
    4.) That we should learn to leverage the unfair advantages that are unique to each one of us, within the context of our Brand leadership practice.
    The acronym "SMILES" was used to further explore and expand on this topic.

    Thank you for this. Ive been in art my whole life in various forms. As a child I drew and sketched as I grew up I was interested in graphic design and making websites, then went to fashion design. Sketching outifts and croquis. Then to actually sewing and creating garments. I went to college for fashion design but then graduated and immediately went into a retail job. Ive been in the corporate world since then about 2010. Ive climbed the ladder and am a manager in a customer service department. Ive always kept my art alive in my creations whether i was sewing or drawing. I picked up painting a few years ago. Started with paint parties actually and noticed how much i enjoyed it and it brought me joy. Ive made a few paintings that i absolutely love. I didnt realize i should sell them immediately. I had a few offers but denied them bc i was scared i wouldnt do it again. Tried and tried and i dont feel like ive created the same way. But now ill really try to sell and let go. Because i havent technically had an art job ive been very nervous to actually say hey Im talented enough to actually pursue this. Thank you for creating this content! So glad i stumbled on it

    But when you go to college you learn about the history of art by the original artists and their techniques, you use live models to learn all the muscular form of humans and animal. You don’t just learn about the paint how it can be manipulated to make different color. But you are right in saying that if you want to get from point a to point b you don’t need all the stuff they teach you in college. I love to paint but have not mastered acrylics, you have given me a new way to utilize acrylics in are. Art also is not just painting either. Being creative is a variety of crafts and skills. I would like to know more about incorporating the ink crayons , markers and spray paint into painting with oils and the process.

    Art for my life has become a healing tool and an awakening device to restart life after a traumatic experience. For some they need time to be uplifted and encouraged in a positive way and a support group. Some never become an artist at all. But I believe creativity is increased through practice of changing your way you think. There are intellects and creative mind. Creatives love what they do. Why make yourself something you don't want to do. Freedom comes from knowing you have vision and the desires to go forward.

Your community seems to be more spiritual and seems to have a different approach to becoming a better artist with more confidence to try and sell work and leave a ball anc chain job. Thank you guys for the wonderful paradigm shifting content that you share. You guys are such a cut above! Ellie, I can hear the underlying knowledge that you have in regards to the "power that be," and the evil covert mechanisms that they use to manipulate, control, and deceive us. The little that you graciously shared about college and the American programming public school system, was spot on! I personally believe that you are an INFJ, such as myself, according to the Myers & Briggs personality types. As most people will live their entire lives never understanding why they failed so hard in society, all while diligently playing by the OZ's behind the curtain rules. Thank you for your boldness to share what you do on top of helping artist like myself fully develop and evolve like God intended us to.

    This is such a helpful talk. I want to respond to why art is not fun at time, or rather creative work for me. I think it is 'fear of mediocrity. and not getting a second chance if my first impression/style is not accepted or good. So I want to get it right, I get it that perfectionism can cripple but I always feel my work is not ready, brand is not ready, how to say what it is about is not worked out. Not being sure what needs to be done to make it ready. What if not one responds to my reels or tiktoks like other artist who sell out as soon as they post. Some of them go extra mile in their engaging content, some just post a photo and both types seem to get lot of love and instant sales. Then some who are very good seem to get no traction at all. So I am never sure what should be my strategy.

      You know, it really is tough to know exactly the right strategy for each person. Typically, if you have a tendency to be shy towards posting or putting yourself out there, that’s exactly what you need to do in order to grow. I would highly recommend you check out artsocial.com and post your work there to get feedback from helpful artists.

    Great conversation- one of my favourite so far. Elli's comments early on in the video specifically made me want to take the Mastery Program THAT much more. Waitlisted ;)

    This is a great discussion. I would love to see a video discussing a day in the life of Eli or Dimitria emulating what a successful artist does. Yes, looking at successful CEO’s is a good thing to do….but, artists are a particular “flavor” or ceo .

    I Love listening to all your video's. I've been painting since I was 5 and went to college for art. Iam 69 now and disabled. Don't have the ability to keep up demands of selling paintings anymore. but my family loves every painting they can get. lol. I love what your doing ,,,, its a Blessing. Keep up the great work. God Bless!

    I believe if you come from your heart expressing what your art is about you can draw people in and will love what you have to say and will probably love your art as they understand what it’s about. Not to say everyone is going to love your work but will have an understanding and remember you.

    As Rod Stewart said every picture tells a story and what ever anyone paints is a story , some may be obvious and some not but that’s what makes it interesting and peak your curiosity of what is this about and some people would want to know more ❤

    I agree with Dimitra on learning to speak and write about your art in a professional and positive way.
    Good writing is based in thought. Learning to think about your work and your calling with a new mindset that others can positively relate to is an essential skill for beginners.
    I know artists who are color blind or dyslexic. Their journey is more challenging in those areas, and ultimately more inspiring.
    Sure, there are tools to help, and an ever increasing necessity to level up with growth. But it's starter pack essential for any business owner.
    The way we think and communicate about our art is how we tell our story. It's as essential as color.

      Thank you for your thoughts! We completely agree. Perseverance and grit is vital; communication of your story, essential.
