  • During my consultations, my aim is to provide you with factual information to assist you in;
    Finding an effective solution for your acne.
    To provide safe treatments.
    To mitigate & treat acne scarring.
    Here are your options that I will give you during your consultation. It may involve one or more combinations, based on your clinical findings, expectations & preferences.
    .
    Facts on Accutane:
    • This is the most effective medication for acne. Over 98% success rate in treating all forms of acne.
    • For the most part you control the treatment, namely if this medication does not suit your lifestyle, or should you have any side effects, you can cease it or reduce the dose. It is up to you.
    • Remission or cure is seen in 60-70% after completion of one course (6-12+ months). Hence in 30 to 40% of cases, recurrence can be expected.
    • Skin purging (pushing acne out) can be expected in most cases. Acne may get worse for 2-6 weeks after starting Accutane.
    • Common side effects; dry skin, sun-sensitivity, purging.
    • Uncommon side effects; sore joints, liver enzyme changes, headaches, mood swings.
    Treatment solutions are based upon science.
    Why do I still get acne after Accutane?
    Pust simply, you fall under the category of statistics. Your first course has a cure rate of around 60-70%. The flipside? 30-40% require a second course. Of that 20% require a third course. You are just a number.Statistics are applied to everyone. Of course it is more complicated than that as your medical dermatologist will exclude secondary causes of acne including-

    I’ve had doctors just want nothing to do with helping me because of my personal choices they disagree with resulting in acne so I’ll try reaching out to a dermatologist 👍

    I had terrible acne from my asthma preventative medication serotide that I took for nearly 12 years to help me breathe. It gave me painful cystic acne. I switched up medications and I have pretty good skin just hormonal breakouts now. I wonder if it was the steroid in the preventer?

    (this isn't about steroids) I just want to offer this info in the comments for anyone who might care-
    my daughter is in her 20s and has had stubborn chest/shoulder/back acne for years and it was now affecting her confidence. she started spironolactone only 3 months ago, with one month of doxycycline..... it's GONE. completely gone. beautiful skin, except for some scar discoloration that will take time to fade. I cannot believe what a miracle these CHEAP medications were for her. good luck to anyone else dealing with acne it's so stubborn!
