    5:56 I believe one of the devs said that this may be implemented in other structures (which would be especially good for bastions since getting netherite upgrades would be easier for multiplayer servers)

    might take a fair bit of rebalancing, but one way to incorporate other structures into the vault key/block mechanic could be having the vault ruins be JUST for obtaining the keys, and having the vault blocks in other structures across the world, leading you naturally from one adventure to the next. maybe even different keys for different structures to give cartographer villagers even more of a use.

      Honestly, I'd love if all structures got their own trial spawners, and vault blocks, with their own keys. They can have their own mobs to fight, their own loot tables, it would revitalize old structures if there are custom mobs, and so on.

Oh no, I found an end portal early in the game and haven't even been to the Nether so I don't have any Ender Eyes! Better make sure each Stronghold's portal is automatically open just in case, can't have the player miss out on that content because they didn't bring or have the proper items for it.

    Something awesome about the vault block: it can be used as a sculk sensor that activates only when someone that hasn't used it. Pair it with a calibrated sculk sensor and you can get a door that opens only to the people that have used the vault. It only works in creative though since you can't pick it up and place it in your base

    loot definitely needs immense buffing. by the time you'd feel ready to tackle a trial chamber, you'd most likely have diamond armor

      I went into one of these completely itemless on hard mode and looted the entire thing only dying twice. Ironically, it was the loot that helped me do it

    If the animation/light change is detectable by observers, you could make a redstone contraption with a player whitelist!

      Not exactly. You can only make it with a blacklist. Which is a real shame. Although the idea of having a key in your inventory to trigger redstone for say opening a door is a really good one.

      what would be the point of villagers selling keys? you can only have one use per player(otherwise it would be a RELLY busted infine item farm), and it would dimish the adventure aspect of the trial champers.

      No. The trial chambers should be tied into the keys for other structures. Villagers already have uses and they could create a much more satisfying gameplay loop by making the player go to trial chambers to get keys for other structures

    I really hope they give the vault loottable items you can't get anywhere else like a new weapon or tool type. I feel like there needs to be a point to come here because there really isn't yet.

      They could take inspiration from modpacks and add custom weapons with higher than usual enchantments and custom names. Something you cant get by normal means

    Just some feedback on yhe new mic, have you got a noise gate on? I feel like i can hear the fading in/out, and it also sounds like the compression is a tad high. Its clear though

    I think it would be really cool if the ender dragon dropped a key to unlock a vault found in the end that can contain Elytra.

    TL;DR about the core shader changes: They more or less just cleaned up some unused variables and renamed one.
    The one big change they made was changing the variable that describes the position of entities. They changed it from screen-space coordinates (the actual pixel on the screen that they are "located" at) to world-space coordinates, relative to the player's eyes.
    For example, if there was a creeper 1 block away from your eyes, directly in the positive X direction, its position variable would be {x:1,y:0,z:0}
    They also made the variable that describes light direction no longer be restricted to the screen before you're given it, so shader authors can work with a broader value if they want.

    Since they added option of different items to unlock vault blocks, I believe its its a sign they are planning to add it to more places.

      Or it's just general functionality for everyone to have. It would be really good for server creation. This would basically be a one time use shop. Good for making event rooms or letting people get welcome gifts. You could put this at the spawn, let people use sticks for it and have everyone get a lorebook, map of the area, compass, some food, basic tools.

    At first I didn’t like the vault block, but now I’m starting to like them. I can see a lot of potential for datapacks, custom loot tables, and world spawn on servers

      @@TwentySeventhLetter I’ve run servers designed for parents without a lot of time, so this could be a good way to allow folks to skip into the mid game or to get a boost on early game - I often hand stone or iron tools with 0 durability to reduce early grind, or a pair of ender chests and a pair of shulker boxes

    The command for setting what item opens the vault has actually existed for some time now. They just only recently used it in an applicable survival setting. It was initially/only used to make mundane items into keys for opening locked chests for adventure maps. Yes. They implemented lock and key functionality long ago. And are only now actually implementing a key item to make use of this code in survival worlds.

      Thats definitely something it needs because the trial chamber were advertised as a replaybile experience so why not allow people to replay same trial chamber after a while. I would say perhaps the timer could last about 1 hour to discourage exploiting it for easy loot in the early game and who knows maybe you could loot the same vault 3 times before it cools down begins because it seems fare enough to allow that because each key needed to be obtained through completing a combat trail.

      Resources on a timer just encourages players to camp one location, if they do regenerate they either need to be tiered to encourage going deeper, or only regenerate after most/all of them have been claimed

    It would be cool if you can mine these with silk touch, and use it for redstone, use it as a small area player sensor, like the skulk sensor but with 4 range instead of 8-16. This would be good since it uses range instead of sounds.

    The Armadillo: You only need to find one, and then you can get all the scute you'd ever need, making the mob immediately useless, as you won't have a reason to interact again
    The Vault: Only opens once per player, making this block immediately useless, as you won't be able to interact again

    With the observer, the vault block could be an easy proximity sensor for map makers (given it can sense through walls). Simpler to use than a calibrated skulk sensor.

      I played around with that, and it is, but it's not as useful as you'd think. Because you can't move it in survival, and in creative you can better detect players with commands already.

    Vaults should be used to loot music discs, elytras, smithing templates, notch apples, netherite, lodestones and banner patterns in all structures.

    For old locations with location specific mobs, it would be easy to make a key be rare item drop from them. This would be a good reason to add in some new mobs that are specific to the temples.

    With the once-per-player nature of these chests, I hope a lot of consideration is put into the odds and items available in the loot table. It's hard for me to think of what would feel "best" but I know that the frustration of "well my luck is bad" would be more extreme for me if another player walks up to the same block and gets the things I was hoping for. My instinct would be that would call for "small" loot table, with mostly options of a similar quality, so that the difference between a great roll and a bad roll isn't that big or you know pretty well what you're going to get but there could be a fun surprise. I'm sure it's something the devs will be testing.

    for retroactively changing the older structures you could replace some of the chests with vault blocks, while keeping some chests with at least 1 guaranteed key, and then make trial chambers give more keys than they have vaults.

    Imagine that not only are the vaults retroactively placed, but each structure has a unique vault variant that needs a key that only drops in a different structure (ie. you find woodland mansion vault keys in pyramids, pyramid keys in underwater temples, etc), and you get sent on this adventure seeking out the next kind of structure that you've never seen. The only issue is that you don't start getting loot until after the first structure

    Well, the keys for the woodland mansion and pillagers outposts what Mojang could do is make it so that you can get the key drops at a rare spawn rate from any of the pillager mobs except witches. Um as for the jungle temple you can craft the keys with one emerald and two iron nuggets.

    Really hope they will introduce this vault in more structures, either existing ones, or future ones, as the loot problem they mention is a thing yes. Many structures can benefit from it but since you need the trial key it's also interresting as you have to loot a trial chamber before. But you do get alot of keys tho

    I saw somebody else mention it, so I will too. Maybe trial spawners and vaults can spawn in other structures. For example, there could be a husk/skeleton spawner in the desert temple, probably on the opposite wall from the entrance, with a 100% chance of dropping a trial key. Then, one of the chests in the bottom would be replaced with a vault (alternatively in a random one of the wings)
    Jungle temple could have zombies or spiders, and the vault would replace the chest behind the traps.
    Etc. For the other structures.

    i hope they change the old spawner locations too. im talking about the *cobblestone cube room with a normal spawner and chests in it.* they are staying there waitin for an update for years now.

    I feel like the key should be consumed and the player should be able to reactivate the vault after with a new one after a significant cool down, like several days of playtime out of range of the structure or something. Also the vault should be able to activate multiple loot tables tied to different keys on the back end for data pack mapmaker people. As for chests in other structures some loot refresh mechanics might be interesting, like if piglins or illegers would very slowly refill treasure chests and repopulate if some were left alive, but if they're all killed off they don't. Don't know if that's a good idea, it's off the top of my head, there are probably plenty of potential ways to make revisiting structures worthwhile.

    I've been playing around with the vault a little bit, and I noticed it works very well -- better than sculk sensors -- as a player detector. If you hook it up to an observer, then into a copper bulb or other T-flip-flop, it's a spam-proof detector that only reacts to player presence, regardless of how many players are nearby, and nearly instantly. Of course, the downside is you can't move it in survival, so you need to build your stuff *around* them.
    Since the key_item can be changed in NBT, it'd be easy enough to replace existing structure loot with these vaults, using a key item that's common to the structure it's in. So for instance, replace the elytra item frame with an elytra vault opened with a chorus fruit, ender pearl, shulker shell, or etc. I thought about making a data pack that does this automatically, but I can't figure out how to detect whether an item frame with an elytra in it is generated with a structure or placed by a player. Obviously, doing it in the game's code would be much easier.

    Since the loot can only be acquired once per player I think the emeralds should be in multiples of 8 (8, 16, 24, 32), enchanted books should be rare books (Mending, Efficiently 5) and tools should be near maxed out tools (Eff 5, Unbreaking 3 + random 3rd enchantment) and the same with armor (Protection 5). Make the loot really rewarding and worth while to players taking on the challenge.

    Never have i ever loved Minecraft updates more and more, love the bricks and ths chiseled variant and my god the copper grate and vault block keeps amazing me. Imagine 10 years from now how Minecraft would look 💙

    I'll repeat what I said on Mojang's video: for endgamers, and (for example) hermits who'll have everything farmable within days of the start of the season, stuff like enchanted iron armour isn't going to be a massive incentive to go vault hunting. If they added something truly unique, like overenchanted gear (like an efficiency X pickaxe for example) or some sort of unique bragging rights treasure, then they'll become a bigger priority.

      I don’t necessarily think that these chambers are really going to be for the endgamers. I think mid-game is when they’ll be most enjoyable as well as most profitable. Having the perfect enchants and full netherite will trivialize the trial chamber. I think that maximizing the fun for the mid-game should be the priority. Unless they make it WAY harder having an over-enchanted item would just been too OP in my opinion. I think trims would be a good middle ground. Personally, I enjoy tricking out my gear, but find mining for diamonds and netherite tedious. Having a way of getting multiples of an armor trim without needing to find another rare structure would be nice for me in the end game.

    This vault concept would be perfect for the netherrite upgrade template in bastions in the nether, as one of the complaints about that item is that it would be very hard to obtain in multiplayer worlds. If you joined a realm or server too late, all of these in the nether would already probably have been collected as they are crucial to upgrade your gear, and who knows if other players would be willing to give you any. I'm sure as hell hoping that they do something like this in the nether

    Okay, so, people are discussing the idea of ghese things having a unique item just for them.
    So let's think through this.
    Imagine there is a new very cool item, a "Bingus"
    So how would this work? There are like ~10 Vaults in a Trial Chamber, but each can only be looted once by a player. So there are three general options:
    A) a Bingus is guaranteed from every Vault. (Kinda making them too common)
    B) a Bingus has a chance to be dropped (meaning, you could loot the entire thing and not get one)
    So I think the best idea is to have a random Bingus chance, but ALSO a guarantee.
    For example
    C) You are guaranteed a Bingus on your very first opened Vault and then have a chance to get more
    D) You are guaranteed a Bingus every 10 opened Vaults
    (Encourages finding more Trial Chambers, or fully clearing the one you did find)
    (Minecraft already keeps track of this kinda stuff in Statistics)
    So yeah, that's my idea

    Here's some suggestions on where one might obtain a key for other structures if they were to add a system like this to them.
    Village: trading. Instead of stealing their stuff you need to earn it, you could just steal their crops to get the emeralds for the key though.
    Dungeon: random mob drop, only mobs from the spawner can drop it.
    Ocean ruins: dropped by a special drowned that only spawns near them.
    Jungle Temple: in the lever combination room.
    Desert Temple: upper floor. It's useless if you're not turning it into a house!
    Woodland Mansion: dropped by vindicators.
    Nether Fortress: dropped by blazes.
    Bastion: dropped by brutes.
    End City: dropped by shulkers.
    You get the idea. Structure exclusive mob drop/useless area of the structures.
    Or they could make loot chests an ender chest like thing so each player sees different loot? Not interconnected of course just player exclusive. Maybe the texture could make it look old as well? So you can tell the difference.

    The trials/vaults need to award something unique, because if it is just some diamond gear (or even netherrite) the trials as a whole will be almost entirely useless, and doesn't really add much to the game in the grand scheme of things. It's a fun little dungeon experience, but if they are gonna lean into the RPG genre for this game, then they should actually commit to it and not half arse it.

    Will these structures be able to be taken down and rebuilt if the spawners/vaults are left in place? Because that sure does leave opportunities for certain deckbuilding dungeon crawling games….

      @@NedJeffery I'm just wondering how it's going to effect the way the trial chambers work if vault blocks etc only respond once per "playthru" of a chamber and the chamber needs to be reset, how would breaking down the structure effect this--im presuming there will be a certain radius of certain key blocks that allow them to interact, it would be interesting if they acted like large scale conduits, needing a certain block to mark their outer extremities, which could be broken (disabling the chamber) or expanded upon. That or trial chambers in single player will be single use, which seems a shame. If you can build onto a trial chamber can that be turned into, as just one example, a safe room within the chamber? It'll be interesting to see how people work around the core of them is my point, but only if interacting with the structure writ large doesn't deactivate the chamber.

      @@adam2802 each individual spawner has it's own cool down. The vault block is not "once per playthrough", it's once per player.

    I think it's a good idea to have the block take a long time to break. If you're making a build, it's unlikely that it would unintentionally land above a large section of a trial chamber, and even then, most things you would be doing underground would be unlikely to intersect with many of the spawners/vaults. The whole idea behind the block is the ability for the same structure to be a "renewable experience" for several different people on multiplayer worlds, and taking a long time to break is an easy way of discouraging people from destroying them.

    hey xisuma ive been trying to think of a way that players could place a specific block that would be incredibly long mining for players who didnt place it. then it hit me while thinking about how the loot tables should be expanded to encourage players to loot.
    my idea is simple, either an item you can apply to blocks like wax to copper. or more enticing imo a new enchantment only for blocks, and maybe a seperate one for transparent blocks just to beef up the loot table even more. i feel this works better then my original thought of just a specific block as it will allow players on servers or realms to still use any block they want but have a way to actually protect there goods.

    My only gripe with this feature is that when you return to enjoy it again you’re just gonna end up with a lot of useless keys (especially with that 50% drop rate) 🔑
    I appreciate how multiplayer friendly this feature is (I play with my brothers a lot) I feel ppl got their hopes to high up with this new Key (Warden dimension level theories 😂) that the reality doesn’t compare to the expectations.
    Maybe make em tradable with the Tool-smith or have some minor function outside the vaults so that they don’t sit in our chests collecting dust. Cause even in a multiplayer world ppl are gonna have A LOT OF KEYS if you want the Trial Chambers to be Replayable as well 😎👍

    more new loot not yet announced
    that’s why it’s a temporary loot table right now

    For me, the entire challenge chamber looks like the old dungeons from the aether mod. Mojang can take this so far and add a new dimension, even similar to the aether which would be unlocked after completing the trials.

    I definitely want the vault blocks added to all structures but most importantly bastions or chests that would contain rare consumables like armor trims in outposts. I think a cool way of getting these would either be from cartographer villagers like many suggested or maybe even from monster dungeons. Monster dungeons feel super outdated compared to many new structures especially when it comes to their loot table so I think it could be an interesting way to give them more relevance

    I hope they make it so that you can loot multiple times. This way you can spend many hours getting keys and then enjoying the loot from your hard work. Would make the dungeon a more than one time experience

    If that Vault Block gives a signal.. or the observer notices its changing status, it would be cool for bases to be able to craft these as player detecting light switches. No more usage of teh noisy skulk sensors. Just for apporach. (Also ist would just work with players, not with noisy villagers and so on.
    So it would be great if it could be craftable with an empty loot table...

    It would be cool to make obtaining the keys for each structure unique to the “purpose” of each structure. For the jungle temple, perhaps actually solving the red stone puzzle thing, and in the desert temple, maybe it can be included in the suspicious sand loot table as a more common item. Maybe doing something with the allay at a woodland mansion, etc. I feel like the elytra at the end city would be most important to universalize and maybe have the key drop from shulkers or something, but all of these have the issue of making the key not something that clogs up inventories by making them available for all yet not obnoxious after getting the only one you need.

    I feel like something that would be cool to do with the vault blocks is in the trial chambers, for each different type of fight, have it relate to a different existing structure and give a different key as a reward for winning that would unlock a vault block in that existing structure. For example, husks give a Desert Temple Vault Key which can unlock a desert temple vault block. Zombies give a dungeon vault key. Nether Skeletons give a nether fortress vault key, etc. That way, you end up having a reason to both go back to trial chambers to farm for keys and a reason to visit other structures for unique or different loot. Of course, keep the regular existing loot in the old structures but just add a vault block somewhere in there. Thoughts?

    I think the vault being put into temples and other structures is a good idea. It makes it so you can find things in already looted structures but it gives you a reason to go to a trial chamber as you need keys.

    I kinda wish you could get different rarity of keys then loot at the vault would give loot corresponding to the rarity of the key. Also the vault would have a long cooldown to make the spawners with a cooldown make more sense. ^like you can keep doing the run over and over like fighting a boss in borderlands or any other loot based boss game

    Hmm, I wonder if the idea of a Vault Block with no item required could be a thing. So like for those other structures you just need to click on it to get the resources but still locks it per person. This could be a good middleground.

    Vault Key in a nut shell: Over hyped and under delivered. Basically just a retextured chest with the added step of a key.
