It's a shame Sony didn't include 4K 60fps 10bit and a decent stabilization with the ZV-1 UPGRADE... That's why DJI deserves all the credit they can for truly delivering what we can call as upgrade.
Its at the point where they have to deliberately remove features in order to justify charging more for their higher end cameras. Its funny seeing the "upgrades" every year
I have both the Sony ZV-1 Mark 2 and the DJI Pocket 3 Creator Combo and I wish the P3 came out before the ZV-1 M2 because I would have just gotten the P3 instead. Now I am contemplating if I should sell the ZV-1 M2 because it seems that it's unnecessary for me to have both. I guess I still keep it because of the pictures but I have a iPhone 13 Pro Max that takes awesome photos. I would like to see a photos comparison between the P3 and ZV-1 M2. Great review as always!!!
Thanks. For me, I don’t tend to use the ZV-1 M2 that much anymore since getting the Pocket 3, it’s basically my webcam now. I find that the Pocket 3 takes great photos when shooting RAW.
I have both of these and liked seeing this side by side comparison. What sort of stabilization do you usually use on the zv1m2 when walking and talking with it in this video? I tend to use Catalyst Browse for the sony and the extra step drives me nuts. I use the Pocket more now but I kinda like the Sony look more.
I think it's worth mentioning that the Pocket 3 digital zoom is technically and practically inferior to that on the Pocket 2 - difference in pixels on the sensor. In fact, there is little point in using it, as you might as well crop in editing instead with similar results. The Pocket 3 can be regarded as having a fully articulating screen, it seems to me. For instance you can hold it low and still have the screen facing you (because the gimbal has been set to point forwards), but it's often overlooked that with the camera held above your head and tilt lock on, you can then turn the body and screen downwards towards yourself to see what you are shooting - so long as you don't overdo it and get your hand in the shot! Sony audio sounded dire in your example, I think due to wind noise reduction making it sound over-processed. The wind noise reduction on the Pocket 3 internal mics is pretty good, although it does transition the stereo image to mono when the wind blows. The big thing with Pocket 3 audio introduced with the latest firmware is its ability to record the internal audio to a separate wave format file. AAC audio integrated with the video is a lossy format - you wouldn't for a minute expect someone to record serious music in AAC format, while the default format is wave. The Pocket 3 update means that instead of the lossy AAC audio becoming even more lossy during editing, you can use the wave file audio, instead and there's no degradation at all up to the point of final export. To me, it's kind of like the Pocket 3 being the first camera with optical wave format zoom, vs the digital zoom of AAC audio. Confused? You should be.... also it means that I can attach a binaural headset to the Pocket 3 USB-C port and record most of the audio that way, but for any talking to camera (which never sounds right using binaural sound) you can crossfade to the contents of the wave file which was recorded from the internal mics. And maybe down the track, that wave file may be FW upgraded to 32 bit float, a little birdie told me. Extra bits to get with the Pocket 3 - well, for me the official extension rod with phone holder and multiple remote control buttons is an essential. Sadly they don't make it yet. And I've fitted my P3 with a ScottyMakesStuff case so I can dump the one provided by DJI, which I do feel could be responsible for some of the damaged screens that have been reported - the case can kind of pull on the screen during removal. OK, novel concluded, thanks for another great video!
Great video, as always! Tamara, I'd like to thank you for pointing me in the direction of the Pocket series. Up to about 12 months ago I was using the original Osmo Action for all my outdoor training episodes & 90% of run and gun situations where it was impossible to use my go to R5 which I use for studio footage. After watching some of your Pocket 2 videos I realized that it was way sharper than any of the Action series, purchased the Creator Combo and started experimenting. The IQ was fine, but the overall user experience was lacking so after shooting about 10 episodes I decided to list it on ebay. The main issue was not being able to rewind footage and the terrible audio incompatibility - most mics I own were making random crackling noises, always and only with the Pocket 2, which made it extremely unreliable and I lost trust it in. Purchased the OA4 without raising my hopes that Pocket 3 might be coming soon. After watching the first random review after the release I saw the OA4 screen & settings applied to the Pocket 3 and that was it:) Purchased the basic kit, used it for a month - did reality series for 30 days of November, 3.5 hours in total, all shot on it paired with DJI Mic (v1). Never ever had a problem and 2 days ago bought a second unit, this time the Creator Combo so I can have a spare mic. Now using the Active Track on both and utilizing the timecode makes life much easier and saves me tons of shooting and editing. Before I had to reshoot 1 exercise 4-5 times from different angles in order to make it look the way I wanted. Now with the multicam setup it takes 2 sets and 1 minute in post. Forever grateful to your channel, keep up the good work, and once again - thank you!:)
That’s amazing! 🤩 Sounds like you have the perfect setup now. Multicam with tracking I can imagine is insanely awesome. I keep trying to convince myself that I need a second Pocket 3 👀😆
totally gonna treat myself for Christmas to the Osmo pocket 3. I currently own the Sony zv1 and love it, but with the Osmo being so small + the stability really has my attention for out and about videos. I think having both in my arsenal will be amazingggggg
I have a og sony zv1 and I love it. I’m getting the pocket 3 this year and I can’t wait. I think they are different cameras. Both great. One thing I love about the zv1 is the focus and the flip out screen that turns on the camera. Feels like an old school camcorder.
Tamara, new firmware is released for op3. try 4k 120p + d-log M !! Thank you for great comparison video as always. I love your voice and color grading.
Basically the Osmo Pocket 3 has a use case, and is a good buy. I honestly no longer think it is worthwhile buying a 1 inch camera, as this comparison shows. However, once you get to APSC, like a ZVE10 or Nikon Z30, the latter is better than a Pocket 3 for not much more money. Personally I have gone to ZVE1 full frame now (went from micro 4/3rds Lumix G9, had a ZV1, then a Nikon Z30 (very good camera that) and now ZVE1), as the difference then definately is worth the money for some who value quality of image, many it isnt though and the Pocket 3 is perhaps the best choice on the market. I had a ZV1 once, but now if I was in the market for this type of camera with 1 inch sensor I would just go for the Pocket.
I used a ZV1 M2 for few months and it was OK. Things I like about it is focal range, and amazing audio quality from build in mics. But when it comes to colors and stabilisations damn... it is nightmare. So my old Canon G7x m1 do better job. It have Optical stabilisation and better colors (sic!). So ZV1 M2 footage looks bad even in good light condition (nevada about 5 PM) with electrinic stabilization You have blury image with ss 100 over 30 fps. Last thing is form factor. So everyone on the street knows that this is a camera. When with DJI Osmo Pocket people didnt notice it, or think it is a toy. That's great when You are in more dengerous district. That's why I have to sell Sony ZV1M2 for DJI OP3.
As an audio person, I can hear that the Sony's onboard mic has a bump in the middle frequencies, presumably to point up voices, but it's tinny and unflattering, the Osmo sounds much better in that regard.
Wow, this review is AMAZING. I saw a video on the Think Media channel comparing the Sony, Canon, and DJI, but for some reason, the guy over there still preferred the Sony. For me, there is absolutely 💯 no question with all the features of the DJI that it is the better camera for me. Just the fact that I can now have the camera do automatic movement tracking while I play guitar 🎸 is a GAME CHANGER for me. And to think I didn't even know the DJI existed before today. In my opinion, even the built-in audio on the DJI sounded better than the Sony when not using the wireless mic. Thanks for the excellent review.
Thank you for this. I really love your no nonsense, informative style of videos. Subscribed! I have the original Sony ZV-1 which I use for home videos, but for the reasons you mentioned, I am considering the Pocket 3 for when I am filming outdoors, especially for the smaller footprint and not having to invest in extra gambles and such. I already have a Deity wireless mic set and hoping I can connect to the Pocket 3 via USB-C.
I have the Sony ZV1 which I’ve been using since 2020. I love the camera it’s much better than the canon G7x I had before! The colours on the Sony are beautiful, the internal mic is so good, the autofocus is amazing, I love the background blur etc the main huge issue for me is the stabilisation … what good is a vlogging camera if the footage is all shaky. It’s not so bad for vlogging indoors but whenever I vlog outside I have to scrap so much footage. I brought the pocket 3 a few days ago. The main reason for that was to use it when I’m vlogging outside. It’s so smooth & I’m sure I can get some interesting shots with it. I’m not a huge fan of the colours on the camera I’m yet to properly test it outside because indoors I’m not 100% liking how it looks compared to the Sony … but I’m hoping it will be my ideal outdoor vlogging device and my Sony will mostly be used at home because it’s such a good camera!
As usual, your review/comparison vids are far superior than most every other such videos I watch. The OP3 is a no-brainer and clear winner over the Sony camera. I’m getting ever so closer to selling all my GoPro gear and switching to DJI’s OP3. (My GoPro 12 has been shutting off after only a few minutes of recording for some unknown reason! 🤬🤬)
I think the Pocket3 is killing it here vs anything sub APS-C, for APS-C you start getting advantages with the larger sensor, still it holds its own, however when you step up to something like the ZV-E1, you do get night and day improvement, at a large price though...
@@bastian.michelFor photography no question, but for videography, when would you choose your G9 over the Pocket 3? - is it just when you need a different focal length, or any other time? The pocket 3 has a similar sized sensor for video once you factor in the 16:9 crop and in fact beats the G9 in dynamic range and low light performance (and of course stabilisation).
@@DigiDriftZone Im solely talking about videography. Panasonic was preferrd by videographers all over the world for the last 10-15 years. As I wrote, I have the Pocket 3 and the G9 here. The G9 kills the Pocket 3 in lowlight. No doubt about it. I mostly shoot with the 9mm 1.7 and the Pocket 3 cant compete. Its not even close ... But... Thats an unfair comparisson. Nobody expects a 500$ Pocketcam to beat a 2.000$ mirrorless camera. There are certain advantages over the G9. Sure. Most important, the G9 does not fit into my Pocket. I mean... There is a reason why I own both. They cant replace each other.
Hi Tamara, i always enjoy your video. Are you by any chance going to review insta360 ace pro? i saw lots of hype over the camera but still cant decide between insta360 or dji action 4.. i love pocket 3 but im to clumsy to have that kind of camera :) Oh yes did you experience any problem with the pocket 3 slide screen? Thank you
There is no contest between SoNy zv vs pocket 3 .Pocket have 1 inch sensor support 60 fps and in all modes 10bit .Sony dont have gimbal . Maybe by iso differenfes sony have advantage but this sony is still apsc camera . Sony zv e1 is full frame there you go .Then we need full fram lens whicb will cost around zv1 .Also gimbal but then you can record dream videos like rambalac or virtual japan Cheers 👍
Wicked review btw, I think I might have to pick up the Dji you know. Quick question, what frame rate and resolution did you use on the dji throughout this video? Does the dji crop in when you switch to 4k? Did you colour grade the osmo pocket footage we are seeing here?
Thanks. I shot in 4K25, D-Log M footage was graded, Normal footage wasn't. No crop on the Pocket 3. My full settings are here th-cam.com/video/w2kNFhB_Ois/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dux3VPSgsQxNbO4T followed by my grading process.
Fantastic comparison! I started vlogging with my a6700 but switched to the zv1ii to make life easier…annnnnnd I placed an order for the pocket 3 yesterday. The stabilization, form factor, low light, comparable internal audio quality (+ dno mic 2), 10 bit, and number of mounting mechanisms are more than enough reasons to make the switch. I hope I made a good decision, but your video was validating! Keep up the great work!
You looked good in the DJI Pocket 3 footage and the colour is great, however when I tested it on myself I saw a lot of digital artifacts (especially on my jawline) in the footage and it looked very much like a smartphone. Actually, I would recommend the iPhone 15 Pro or any other flagship phone because the videos look better.
I've watched many of these comparisons now, and while the Pocket 3 undoubtedly has better features and things like better dynamic range, I still think the Sony produces more pleasing pictures in many scenarios. Shame the stabilisation isn't that good.
Thank you that was a great review! :) Btw for a person who wants to shoot videos in gym in terms of frame and stabilisation, which one will be better any idea?
The Osmo Pocket 3 is a good all rounder, but the ZV-1 M2 might be more convenient to monitor yourself if the camera is stationary, if you’ll be moving around the stabilisation won’t be near as good as the Pocket 3.
Nice video! I really like your content👍 Osmo pocket question: How is the focus when wearing sunglasses? it recognises the subjects eyes, are sunglasses an issue?
Thanks! It seemed to do a good job when I had my sunglasses on, I didn’t notice the focus being off or hunting around. I did have tracking on at the same time though which could have helped.
What program do you use to edit videos from pocket? Can you download footage by Wi-Fi or need a cord plugged in? I’m not tech savvy, but want to learn hoe to make vlogs, reels and TH-cam stuff. I am slightly terrified haha.
Hi from France ! I was afraid to not understand a word of what you will say, my English terrible, but no, you have the same accent of my school teacher years ago 😂🤣 Merci !
Thank you for this comparison. I have been debating between the ZV -1 Mark 2 vs Osmo Pocket 3, and you've helped med decide. I'm definitely getting the Osmo Pocket 3 for vlogging. I do need a camera for videography? Any recommendations? Thanks for this video!
@@TamaraGabrielUK I am looking for a camera catered to camera shots (close up, medium shot, long shot, etc). Would you have a video for that? Thanks in advance!
thank you for doing this review. im sure a lot of people are contemplating between having the sony vs the pocket. so more or less, the comparo can be said about having the latest mobile phone vs the osmo perhaps, like the iphone 14 or 15 pro vs the osmo. But for the price, the osmo is a no brainer, especially the combo.
Thanks so much for your views on this. I took a huge leap about 3 weeks ago and sold my ZV-1 MK1. Id watch hundreds of pocket 3 videos and even though on release I thought it'd be no use to me, the evidence persuaded me very easily that the pocket 3 was actually the camera I would use for videos that weren't so muddy and wet. I'd recently filmed with the zv-1 a little more (previously mostly BRoll) and was quite disappointed by the fuzzy stock mic and found the menus just too much when simply wanting to alter focus points, and the lack of touch screen menu on the zv-1 clinched it. I also sold my DJI Action 2 and my Hohem M6 with AI and Hohem iSteady pro4 and managed to get enough to buy the pocket 3 from DJI. I'm still waiting on delivery but based on everything I've watched and what I now use cameras for I'm certain it's the right choice for me. I'll miss the bigger screen, I think, and the zoom and the awesome macro of the Sony, but having tracking, a linked mic and 1" sensor with blurry backgrounds had me sold. ps even though I've ordered the pocket 3 I still watch the videos about the comparisons ! Sorry for the long message. Thanks again, Darren from Derbyshire.
@@TamaraGabrielUK thanks, I found in the end that having so much kit hindered the flow of recording something and between us 2 an action 4 adventure combo fell into the basket too😉
Great video. Hope they can improve the digital depth of field on DJI. A way to turn it on or off. You pointed the house and the camera focus on it. Also DJI is much better at firmware updates then Japanese companies.
@@TamaraGabrielUK i thought this blur effect was done digitally similar to iPhone. Aren’t the aperture fix on action camera too but they don’t have that problem.
Hello really love your videos. I have a question no one seems to answers…. For using as a travel film camera for someone that doesn’t do extreme sports (mostly normal vacations) is the pocket 3 a good option? Is there something better. I’m really on the fence since this will be my main usage and also everyday stuff…. Can you plz give me your opinion?
Whether the OP3 will work well for your as a travel camera will largely depend on what is important to you. This is very much a video-centric camera. Photography is almost an afterthought. For video, this works really well, especially for vlogging. For photos, this is a 9.4 megapixel camera with a fixed focal length (20mm) and fixed aperture. It also lacks a proper mechanical shutter. Doesn’t mean you can’t take great photos with it. Just know there are limitations. Pros as a travel camera - [ ] Small and lightweight - [ ] Good battery life - [ ] Good quality overall, especially for video. - [ ] Wireless mic is a big plus for vloggers. Cons as a travel camera - [ ] Not weather or dust proof - [ ] Gimbal is a delicate mechanism that requires extra care - [ ] Limited photo capabilities
@@becauseofn4834 For filmmaking, probably not. The fixed focal length and fixed aperture along with the small sensor of this camera will really limit your creative freedom. I would want a camera with an interchangeable lens for some variety in my shots. I would sometimes also want a shallower depth of field than what you could get with this small sensor. Having everything always focus just doesn’t give a very filmic look, in my opinion. A larger sensor would also perform better in low light. I would also want a flatter color profile than Dlog-M to have more latitude in post. Would be even better if it had 4:2:2 instead of the 4:2:0 chrome subsampling that is on this OP3. Probably need to invest in some external audio recording equipment as well. In terms of cameras, I feel a Sony FX30 would serve you much better. I get that is a quite a bit more money. But it is a much more capable camera for filmmaking. That said, I am sure someone will prove me wrong and make a very nice film with just the OP3. I would love to see it.
I have had the Pocket 2 but just recently changed over. Reason was the form factor with a frail gimbal was just too awkward for me - I do outdoor videos, moving all the time and the Pocket is hard to balance, store and keep charged when on the move. Also the zoom is a benefit for wildlife. What I did was ignore the side-grade of the ZVII and got a brand new OG for around $400. Got the wide angle adaptor, too but mainly I can use my trekking poles to get the distance which I carry anways. It also has an ND built in (which you can't properly store on the Pocket when putting it away) and with the adaptor the possibility to add some nice diffusion filter. In studio, the ZV1 should distort my face way less as well. As for stabilization in a pinch I can do that in post with the ZV1 and gyro flow. At that point it was a no brainer to go Sony (for me!). Thanks for the video!

That sucks about the H12. If you do pull the trigger on the OP3 I'm sure you won't be disappoint with it.
I think the Pocket3 is killing it here vs anything sub APS-C, for APS-C you start getting advantages with the larger sensor, still it holds its own, however when you step up to something like the ZV-E1, you do get night and day improvement, at a large price though...
I love my Pocket 3, but it does not kill my Panasonic G9(mFT).
Not, at, all.
Are you by any chance going to review insta360 ace pro? i saw lots of hype over the camera but still cant decide between insta360 or dji action 4.. i love pocket 3 but im to clumsy to have that kind of camera :)
Oh yes did you experience any problem with the pocket 3 slide screen? Thank you
Maybe at some point. I’ve had it for a couple of months but I’ve been busy.
No problems with the OP3 screen for me.
There is no contest between SoNy zv vs pocket 3 .Pocket have 1 inch sensor support 60 fps and in all modes 10bit .Sony dont have gimbal . Maybe by iso differenfes sony have advantage but this sony is still apsc camera .
Sony zv e1 is full frame there you go .Then we need full fram lens whicb will cost around zv1 .Also gimbal but then you can record dream videos like rambalac or virtual japan
Cheers 👍
Has anyone tried osmo pocket to interview people on the streets?
Great comparison. The Pocket 3 replaced my Sony ZV-1f, as it is better in almost every way.
Nice!
Keep up the great work!
hello I have a question. Does the DJI Pocket 2 or 3, Wireless Microphone Transmitter work with Insta 360 X3 . Via wifi or bluetooth? Thanks🙂
Thank you for this. Another great review. You are appreciated, Lady T.
Pocket 3=best & full(creator combo)
hmmmm.....insta 360 pro Ace? maybe test? )))
Oh! Sis you in the UK?! How am I only realising this now 😅😅
🇬🇧
@@TamaraGabrielUK Thank you so much :)
Yea this clearly has the ZV-1 beat. Double the price and doesn't even win in most of the catagories
sheesh thanks that was great
Detailed and informative review.
Hello,
May I know what is the Total recording time for recording in 4k 60fps and 1080p 60fps in pocket 3?
I onlyy wish that we could get a hdmi clean signal from the osmo action. That’s the only thing is making not buy it
thanks for this tamara, im torn with this 2 unit. imma go with p3. Love from ph.
What program do you use to edit videos from pocket? Can you download footage by Wi-Fi or need a cord plugged in? I’m not tech savvy, but want to learn hoe to make vlogs, reels and TH-cam stuff. I am slightly terrified haha.
I use Final Cut but you can use LightCut on your phone or CapCut on your phone and desktop; it’s great for beginners and it’s free.
@Lulabelle008 I am I'm a similar position to yourself, thanks for asking this question 😅
can you do a studio setup video for the pocket 3 for youtube talking head … ❤
Yep, it's on the list 😊
Hi from France ! I was afraid to not understand a word of what you will say, my English terrible, but no, you have the same accent of my school teacher years ago 😂🤣 Merci !
De rien ☺️
Thank you for this comparison. I have been debating between the ZV -1 Mark 2 vs Osmo Pocket 3, and you've helped med decide. I'm definitely getting the Osmo Pocket 3 for vlogging. I do need a camera for videography? Any recommendations? Thanks for this video!
Nice! The OP3 is great.
The camera you’re after depends on your budget and exactly what you’re filming.
@@TamaraGabrielUK I am looking for a camera catered to camera shots (close up, medium shot, long shot, etc). Would you have a video for that? Thanks in advance!
Hi Tamara, (been getting your emails), VERY NICE VIDEO!! Outside of vlogging what else are you using the Osmo Pocket 3 for? Thanks!
Thanks!
I use it for bts, family videos, I use it as a b-cam... A variety of things.
Someone was saying that after applying that ultrawide lens on pocket 3, we can remove the background blur, is it true??
It's slightly reduced but it doesn't "remove" it.
thank you for doing this review. im sure a lot of people are contemplating between having the sony vs the pocket. so more or less, the comparo can be said about having the latest mobile phone vs the osmo perhaps, like the iphone 14 or 15 pro vs the osmo. But for the price, the osmo is a no brainer, especially the combo.
💯
P3 is only for video can't take pics as a zv1
Yes it can take photos and the photos are very good.
@@TamaraGabrielUKGood to know 👍
@@TamaraGabrielUK by you can't compare it to zv1
Hey Darren, sounds like you’ve offloaded a lot of gear and are keeping things simple 👍🏾 I think given what you do, the OP3 is a really good choice.
@@TamaraGabrielUK thanks, I found in the end that having so much kit hindered the flow of recording something and between us 2 an action 4 adventure combo fell into the basket too😉
u have really prettty eyes!
😇
Well thought out video and a lot of work done to deliver this great video.
Great video. Hope they can improve the digital depth of field on DJI. A way to turn it on or off. You pointed the house and the camera focus on it. Also DJI is much better at firmware updates then Japanese companies.
There won’t be a way to turn it on or off because the aperture is wide at f/2.0 and fixed.
@@TamaraGabrielUK i thought this blur effect was done digitally similar to iPhone. Aren’t the aperture fix on action camera too but they don’t have that problem.
Action cameras have a much wider field of view down to the focal length, plus a smaller sensor which is why you don’t get the shallow dof.
Great review, thanks! I think my decision has been made.
Glad it helped ☺️
This is a very thorough review thank you
Hi Tamara, another great video. What are your thoughts on the mist filter?
Thanks. In some situations I like to use it, but sometimes it can look a bit strong.
So glad I came across your channel! You’ve just convinced me to get the Osmo! Thanks!!
Ah amazing!😁 It’s such a great camera.
Thank you for your reviews. Always clear and to the point. 🙏🏾
You’re welcome ☺️
nice review how GOOD is the tracking
The tracking with the Pocket 3 is great, I find myself using it a lot and I have no issues.
Get my P3 on christmas!!:)
Awesome!
Pros as a travel camera
- [ ] Small and lightweight
- [ ] Good battery life
- [ ] Good quality overall, especially for video.
- [ ] Wireless mic is a big plus for vloggers.
Cons as a travel camera
- [ ] Not weather or dust proof
- [ ] Gimbal is a delicate mechanism that requires extra care
- [ ] Limited photo capabilities
@@xohmerfor short film making ?
How would be this Pocket 3 for a TH-cam studio setup?
perfect
Works really well
Love it awesome thanks
No problem ☺️
pocket 3 is better
Yep
Can I use OP3 as a webcam?
Yeah, just plug it in via USB-C and select Webcam on the OP3 screen.
Great video, very informative.
Thanks!
love your content
Thanks 😊
Great work mIss Tamara
Thanks
Great Videos!
Thanks!
Nice video.
Thanks!
Great review!
Thanks!
Nice! Yeah, it always goes back to using the best tool for the job.
This is really a great video. Video has been perfect.
