    I think to answer your question about why the two lenses have slightly different field of views is because the F2 version has a shorter flange focal distance while the F1.4 has a longer flange focal distance (distance between rear element of lens and the sensor). Although they're both 23mm in lens focal length, the F2 version has a slightly wider field of vision due to it's shorter ffd and closer focusing ability (22cm), which inherently makes it a wider lens than the F1.4 which has a longer close focusing ability at 28cm.

      @@sw40lover it takes practice to focus the mikaton when you're all the way to 0.95 but the images are ridiculously crisp at that point. If you need a couple of millimeters extra to keep something like a face in focus that's tilted, you pull out slightly to 1.4 or so. works fine.

    I think the size difference between these lenses is overstated. The f/2 is not really as small as it looks, and it protrudes quite far out from the camera. The fact that it’s narrower doesn’t really help me. On the other hand, the f/1.4 is really quite impressively small and lightweight for what it offers.

    I just wanted to point out that there are raincoats for camera setups - so any setup can be guarded in inclement weather. Also, "weather sealing" only provides resistance - not water proofing so, the bottom line is that there are further solutions one might want to consider if you are a harsh weather condition shooter. Personally, I'm not into it at all, not wanting to ruin $$$$$ in gear. Outdoor photographers, however, I'm sure would differ.

    For a comparison:
    56f1.2 vs 90f2 as a portrait lens. The price an specs are just different enough to be an interesting comparison.
    Also, if I’m getting a 23f2 for travel size, I’m getting an X100. 23f1.4 looks like it has less contrast, so slightly more shadow detail.
    I prefer 28mm as a focal length. I just wish Fuji would get on the X70s.

    • @HR-wd6cw
      @HR-wd6cw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're not quite the same and totally different price points. The 56 is a "true" portrait lens, whereas the 50mm is a general-purpose lens (not as sharp, not as fast either).

      @kristian.mingle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HR-wd6cw since I originally made this comment, I've rented the 56mm 1.2 and after shooting a gig with it, I realized the usability was more important than the f stop. I ended up buying the 50mm f2 instead; the compact size, af speed/reliability and price point were all my deciding factors. f.2 in M43 (x2) would be f.4 in FF.

    • @HR-wd6cw
      @HR-wd6cw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The equivalence in terms of aperture is not easily as straight forward as converting focal lengths from APS-C to FF equivalants. But a 1.4 is roughly closer to f/2.2 or f/2.5 on a FF body. For most people, the difference between 1.4 and 1.8 (either on FF or APS-C) is not terribly noticeable but the cost often is. Plus a lot of street photographers use the 23mm, and for that, most are usually between 2.8 and f/8 most of the time anyway. I'd only get a 1.4 if I knew I was going to be doing portraits with the lens (and a lot of them) otherwise I'd just save some money and get the f/2 version.

    IMO, if you're looking for bokeh, neither of these two lenses should be your choice. If you are looking for more separation, neither of these two lenses should be your choice. With high ISO performance in the recent Fuuji bodies, 1 extra stop should not make a difference. If you are afraid of grain, get medium format. I'll never understand why so many photogs hate camera grain, but LOVE to add it later in post. Massive amounts at that.

    They say the f2 is better for video users because of the faster and silent AF but the clutch focus with hard stops is better for video. If only it'd have the speed and silence of the LR motor for.us hybrid shooters. While I love the compact form factor of the f2, the f1.4 seems to be the way to go. Knowing myself, I'll probably grab both. Doh.

      I have found out that I really do not like the clutch. It is more flashy then function.

    1.4 is way better. Not because of aperture. But everything else.

      Better because its not weather sealed and has slower autofocus......and much bigger and double the price.......

    Total bs review. There are plenty of reviews which prove that F2 version is as good as F1.4. If you are into pixel peeping then sure go for it. Otherwise who cares? BTW there are reviews which clearly show that f.14 version is not sharp if anything it is soft and only becomes shart at f2.8

      CRYPT KEEPER you don’t know what you’re talking about. The 35mm f/1.4 is the lens people regard as one of the best not the 23mm f/1.4.

    • @williamlee7782
      @williamlee7782 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I read somewhere that the sharpness is soft on the f1.4 when using up close. So if you avoid using it close to it's minimum focal distance, you should be good.
