Jon Donais from Shadows Fall. I just checked page 10 of my Guitar Legends magazine featuring Randy Rhoads. Couldn't think of a better description of this solo myself.
Mr Crowley is like the England vs Argentina match in the 1986 world cup. In that match Maradona scored two of the most talked about goals in the history of the sport and the other one featured ”the hand of god”. Well, Mr. Crowley has two of the most talked about solos in the history of traditional heavy metal and definitely ”the hand of god” must have been there when Randy was playing those solos.
Everyone says evh, steve vai, and jo satriani are the greatest ever, but Randy had a style that no one else had. He had something that everyone wishes they had today. his songs are masterpieces. You can do all the sweeps and play as fast as you want but no one can be Randy. Same with Dime. Skill doesnt equal good music and songwriting.
IMO the only thing Randy was deficient in compared to them was time. If he were still alive and had been making music over all these years I think MANY folks would reorder their assessments of 'top' guitarists of all time.

Mr. Crowley isn't just Ozzy's best song; it's also arguably the catalyst for what would become neoclassical metal. And for that I say God bless you, Randy!
As redundant and I may sound but... Let's talk about how clean your execution is! Man this solo is not easy and you could hear every single goddamn note... Impressive!
I’ve suffered for years on the Bach’s inventions because my piano teacher loved them and forced me to play them all. Almost had PTSD of Bach at the end. But then Randy showed me you can make something beautiful with Bach’s inventions. Anyone who played them on piano will recognised some pattern in Mr Crawley.
One of the greatest solos ever written and played of all time as far as I’m concerned. Brad, might I just say as well that your tone is fucking brilliant as well! 🤘🎸
These otherworldly solos give you goose bumps and an adrenaline rush at the same time! Still a peerless guitar player 42 years after his death. Your execution is amazing on these as always.

@@somethingbl I thought so but didn't bother Googling it and I never studied the nuances of who played on which old album from grade skool cuz I didn't actually care that much cuz I just play SLAYER and my comment still stands that it's a great album.
@somethingbl Eh, Jake E. Lee was still a very underrated guitarist, especially amongst all of Ozzy's collaborators. Bark At The Moon is my favorite Ozzy solo album, and a big part of that is due to Lee's contributions to the songwriting and guitar work. That being said,
Good breakdown, since learning the song I've noticed I've started just randomly shredding certain parts of the solo, I know it pretty well but some of the finer details I needed to sharpen up. This helps a bunch thank you Brad!
I didn't hear Blizzard Of Ozz until 2003 (I was born in 91) but I was entranced by Randy's playing on that album. This solo along with Crazy Train and Goodbye to Romance were a huge part of me wanting to learn how to play.
This solo taught me that true genius lies in not just learning all the theory and technique, but in writing a solo people can whistle, an actual tune, just at 500 mph and bouncing off the walls where appropriate.
Not sure if accurate but it sounds accented, maybe the slightest hint of a semi-harmonic? I'm listening on my phone so maybe the semi-harmonic is a phone artifact 🤷🏻♀️ But definitely at least accented/hit with absolute conviction.
