    Well said, Michael!
Yankee fans in the past will always have their generational favorites. For me it was Donnie and Jeter.
I consciously remember 6 years of Mattingly growing up. I was born in ‘81. So he’ll always be my first Yankee idol.
But Jeter was the majority afterwards.
    I remember in ‘94 when I was 13.
My best friend Gary from I.S. 68 in Canarsie, Brooklyn came up to me and said “You heard about this guy the Yankees signed? His name is Jeter”.
Being a kid who knew very little about the world or the diversity of names in general, I laughed and said “What kinda name is Jeter”.
    We both laughed.
    Fast-forward 26 years!
And that young man is in the HOF.
    Congrats Derek!
Thank you for the memories that will last me a lifetime!

Congratulations to Derek Jeter. No one is more deserving of this honor. Growing up, he and Bernie Williams were my favorite Yankees. What Michael said about him being the exact same no matter what the pressure situation was so true. I can remember thinking to myself on many occasions during postseason play that I thought he seemed overly cool in the box, but again, that's because for most people we just expect the situation to dictate a faster pumping heart and eyes wide and bat moving all around with more nervous body movements involved. Jeter would simply take one foot out the box, adjust his velcro batting gloves, raise his right hand to the ump for time and then step back in just he always did and make something happen. In his earlier days there was a sort of hop step practice swing a little further outside the box as he looked down to the third base coach before turning and stepping right back in. Countless times he came through for the Yankees on the field, but the coolest thing about him as Michael said was his personality which was full of class and respect for others. I imagine at one time he heard the term, "those who give respect, get respect" and he really took that to heart because the entire league had nothing but the utmost respect for him. Even the Boston Red Sox deep down respected him tremendously. They proved that with his awesome Fenway send off back in 2014. What a tribute to player who embodied the epitome of class, selflessness, teamwork and leadership. If they could have given him a HOF induction just for those qualities alone I don't think too many people would argue, but he was special athletically as well as everything else and there is no denying that. His numbers speak volumes by themselves. And in the past 80+ years nobody has earned more WS championship rings. That is a feat I'm sure he keeps at the very pinnacle of his successes. What a tribute to a great athlete and great human being. 20 yrs in the media eye of the storm that'll is the New York Yankees and he did not have one single ounce of bad press said about him nor did he create any on or off the field. Way to go, Derek. I can't wait for next trip to Cooperstown to honor another great Yankee.

CITRUS KNIGHT Rings are one of the worst ways to measure a player. Scott Brosius has 3 and Barry Bonds has none. Is Brosius better? Yes Jeter had a lot of hits. I didn’t say he wasn’t awesome..but he’s overrated. He struck out a lot, his arm was average, and his range was ok. He was surrounded by great players his whole career. He got plenty of pitches to hit because he hit 2nd in the order. No one ever pitched around Jeter. Only 5 guys have more hits than Him yet I don’t ever remember Him being intentionally walked. He was extremely consistent, durable, and probably the best instinctual player in history, but no one was afraid of Jeter when facing the Yanks. I’m sorry. Did he have a great career? Yes. Does he deserve to be in the HOF? Yes. Was he overrated? I’m sorry but yes.

CITRUS KNIGHT I didn’t say that, but if he did exactly what he did on the Pirates or the Blue Jays or the Reds it wouldn’t have translated into one postseason success. He was part of the reason yes, but let’s not make him out to be Lebron James. ARod’s year in 2009 where he carried the team on his back to a World Series title is the type of player that deserves the type of accolades you’re referring to. He was a great player but he’s still overrated. You can argue it all day. It just is what it is.
