      Kobe is a close second to Jeter. People don't realize how difficult it is to win an NBA title with the Lakers. Yes they have won 17 but the spotlight is so intense it will shrink most players. Tim Duncan had it easy playing for the Spurs, that is why Kobe was a better leader. Same with Jeter. Winning five titles with the Yankees under that intense spotlight is incredible. DJ and Kobe are 1 and 1A.

      He clearly is. Bill Russell, Magic and Bird as well in Basketball. Jeter, Mattingly and many others in baseball. But it's time to talk about Jeter, so I have no problem with them pointing out how Jeter managed to keep his nose clean for 20 years. He had the intelligence to, for example, wait to get married until he wasn't on the road all the time. His parents should get a lot of the credit, just as Aaron Judge's parents seem to have done a good job.

      A pitcher plays once every 5 games, seldomly plays the entire game, and is not expected to produce with a bat (not at all in the AL), so I'd say the key piece to your infield defense and part of your lineup would have far more leadership responsibilities.

    I have never liked the Yankees (being a lifelong Cardinals fan and native of the STL); however, DEREK JETER (based on the time frame given) IS the greatest leader over that span. What separates "The Captain" from anyone else that comes to mind (i.e. Tom Brady) is that he played his entire career with no controversy attached to him. He remained consistent through ownership and management changes (nearly 3500 hits, 5 World Series titles (including one three peat) in 6 appearances. Currently, the man holds MLB postseason records for games played (158), plate appearances (734), at-bats (650), hits (200), singles (143), doubles (32), triples (5), runs scored (111), total bases (302) and he did this when steroids was a major issue. His name was never attached to any controversy. It's not Brady, it's Derek Jeter and he should have went in unanimously, like his teammate Mariano Rivera did last year and how Ken Griffey, Jr. should have been unanimous as well.

    • @thetodd2738
      @thetodd2738 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smartest comment I've read today. As a yankee fan I may sound biased but Jeter navigated the New York media market without ever having a problem with them. No teammate of his can say he was anything but the best leader. Never acted selfish. I agree Griffey should have been a unanimous choice. Without injuries, Griffey would have shattered records. Sweetest swing in baseball.

  • @ricandadd1

    It's of the extremest rarity in professional sports that u have men - not just that on the field, but who r also the definition of a gentlemen off the field! Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera are in that extremest of rarity, mind-boggling that they played together for the same franchise! Not one epitome of a role model, but two! There are more than many who should very well take a cue from these two about how to conduct yourself! It's great having game, but when it comes to real life, your image stands out over all!
