Thanks for posting this it could be helpful. If you ever attempt this again there is a button on the dash, right below the hazards that will put the headlights up.
Tempted to try some of this on my own but not having a lift makes the job super super annoying and also I have no metal shaping skillz. Amazing seeing your work in action!
Man I wish I could have someone do that for my '93. It isn't as rotted with rust in my rockers as this one is, but man... It'd it be nice to stop it before it gets this far gone.
@@TheSubieSanctuary it really helped out too because I'm trying to fix alot of my rust on a budget. I also have 2 pretty much rust free 2005 outbacks🤙😂
Is there any keyword or link for the rocker panel you guys used? I spend some time looking for it and cannot find any that looks similar in the vid. Also, what kind of welder you guys use for this job? a MIG Welder? Thx
We do still do this full time! Moved to a bigger place even and now 3 guys here. Issue is, with the large scale resto projects and overwhelming demand for this work. Its a pretty long wait to get in. You can email or contact on instagram The.subie.sanctuary@gmail.com @the_subie_sanctuary on insta
What would you have quoted for a normal customer for this job? My NB is in a similar state and I'm debating just taking it to someone. Great job, guys!
Thanks and hard to say, rust is difficult to quote. Its all unique to each vehicle. We would start with your budget and expected to results and go from there
Just out of curiosity, how much do you guys typically charge for a "low budget" Miata rocker rust repair like this? in $CAD. Assuming the same level of rust as the car in this video
Great job on a budget! I cringed after the freshly repaired car was pulled out back into the snow haha, it'll be rusting again within a couple of years somewhere like that!
@@TheSubieSanctuary cool thanks , I’ve been looking at the Vulcan welders specifically the 215 and the weld pro 200 obviously not top of the line stuff. But it’ll mostly just be used for at home projects like rockers etc
The quarters just in front of the rockers are drains, they get clogged and that is why they rust...You forgot to drill drain holes so the water can get out.
I have to do this to a buddy of mines NA6. 😬 This most definitely helped so I know what I’m getting into! I made sure to sub! Maybe you can look at my channel and let me know what you think?
Thank you for posting this. So many Miatas are written off as soon as rust shows up on the quarters. They can be saved!
Thanks! Definitely a reality in the salt belt here. We have fixed much worse then this.
Most of the shops don't even want to do this jobs . They consider is not worth they're time or they will charge more than the car worth . Great work .
Older video but very helpful and gives me confidence to tackle our project. Have a rusty drivers lower rocker/quarter. Luckily all others look good.

Best bet is to probably just have jack stands up on the highest

First video I've ever seen. Just from the cars in the garage... I'm in love with this channel😂
Awesome!! Stay tuned, we have a lot of cool cars here!

We use a lincoln 180 mig welder.
We got it from parts hub Canada. Looks like they also available on summit racing
@@TheSubieSanctuary thanks a lot!

@@RanenPo yeeee, it was a super budget fix. Still holding up today though!
Hey guys i have a nb miata with similar rocker issues and rear quarter rust are you guys still operational? would love to stop by and get a quote
Still at it! However, its a very long wait to get in for body/paint work 😬

I dont think he has winter driven it since, but our climate is unforgiving without blasting underneath with oil
@@TheSubieSanctuary For sure, I'm in the UK and mine is rusting from the salt they use on the roads in winter... We hardly even get snow!
@@codegreen5213 ah yes, ive been to the UK, you guys definitely get the rust as bad as us here
Killer job guys, looks awesome
What type of welder did you guys use?
A lincoln 180, set at low temp and maybe speed 3 for sheet metal
How did you put in new sill drainage holes on the rear of the rocker? Drill new ones?
Yes sir!
What wire and speed do you use on your welder?
.025 wire and speed 3 out of 10, then lowest temperature setting
Is there a reason you used the rocker panels and not just regular sheet metal?
2 reasons, they were $60 and the shape of the car. With That gauge of sheet metal we would have wasted a day just trying to shape it.
@@TheSubieSanctuary Interesting! What gauge is it? I'm doing my own rust repair and this has been interesting th-cam.com/video/ncmktoDdsMU/w-d-xo.html
What kind of welder do you recommend for jobs like these ?
A good gas mig. We use gas Lincoln 180, good adjustment level for sheet metal welding

Where did you guys buy the rocker panel from?
Local parts store (davenports), they were $60/each

the rockers have 8 drains and the roof has 2 drains
where in ontario you guys located?
Orangeville
