I love your style. Thank you for showing how you stay calm when you get a result you don't want and you take the time to think about how you will deal with it. I just panic and think my painting is ruined. I will try and remember to stay calm when this happens.
Super cool idea. I wish I wasn’t so busy today because I want to sit down right now and try it. I don’t have a popsicle sticks so I guess I will have to go get a popsicle! Thanks once again for a great tutorial
After learning “Abstract City Scapes from you some months ago, this has become one of my most favorite ways to paint. I love the surprise effects that happen. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Karen; you are an inspiration. I've just started painting four weeks ago after years of wanting to but not daring because of a fear of failing. You have given me the confidence to start, and the knowledge to try different processes and techniques. My attempts so far have been modest, but at least they haven't (all) gone in the bin and I am encouraged to continue rather than give up. I now walk everywhere looking and thinking: how would I go about painting that? I can't thank you enough.
Hi, very encouraging tutorial, thank you. Great advice to slow down and take time to allow the paint to do its thing. I usually panic, speed up with the result being a mess. Breathe. Love your attitude to experimentation. Thank you.
Karen! This tutorial lead me to creating my first painting that leaves me intrigued and I keep looking at it! I've been painting almost a year now (retired and focused only on painting and calligraphy) and following you for about 9 months. I learn an incredible amount from you (your techniques, color, sketching, etc.) and have made many paintings other people enjoy. This is the first one that captured me. Thank you for your videos! The stick really helps in getting paint on the paper than using a card. Then use the card with the paint on the paper. :)
That’s wonderful to hear. Thank you so much 😊 If you want to access more exclusive and in-depth tutorials why not think about joining my Patreon membership. www.patreon.com/karenriceart
i love these tutorials Karen, making shapes and designs on those gorgeous backgrounds. I want to do more nature based ones but hopefully I can transfer the idea. I would love a tutorial on how to paint white subjects and also how to put together paintings of foregrounds middle ground and background. just ideas 😊
Thanks so much Caroline. Great suggestions btw… you may find this tutorial helpful with backgrounds/foregrounds etc…th-cam.com/video/I9fLyTaJEhY/w-d-xo.html
Fabulous! I love these abstract tutorials you do so inspirational and fun to do! I can’t wait to try this, beautiful colours as usual, love this thank you ☘️☘️☘️
Beautifully done! I'm inspired to do some painting over the jubilee weekend so thank you for this! I do love abstracts and that process of waiting for the painting to reveal itself is so much fun! -
I love your abstract paintings with your unique techniques. I tried your abstract painting of city skyline with plastic cards and thoroughly enjoyed it. This one is even better with your guidance. I do have a question, if chosen paint that are more yellowish, brown or even green, would the painting turn out more abstract sunset, forest type? Just curious......
I loved this video, thank you for posting. Just getting set up to have a go myself. I've lost my mojo a bit and hoping this will inspire me. The compote blue is a beautiful shade - what brand of paint have you used for this?
@@KarenRiceArt it definitely did, loved doing it. I'm all set up to do another one today, the winter tram scene. Love the way the paint moves, so random. Thank you for your inspiration.

So pleased you were inspired to paint an abstract cityscape. Love your colour choice… would make a lovely abstract landscape 😀
Karen, please reference the type of surface you are painting on... it appears to be a finished wood that wipes clean easily?
All of the materials I am using are in the description. I’m using 300gsm water paper.
❤
I always forget to tilt my board to get effects, the digital watercolor program i have has tilt on it to use too, forget to use it there too lol
It can really produce some interesting effects 😀

sorry, hadn't realised mission gold was the brand.
