I'm glad you found the video helpful. I use Dupli-color sandable primer. I buy it at my local auto parts store. They carry white, grey, and red-oxide, but I think it actually comes in a few other colors as well.
Sean, you are right there are a lot of other TH-cam videos that show painting techniques, but yours is the best I've seen on TH-cam by far. Your camerawork is superb, locked shots and in focus and I really appreciate how you show the difference between steps by showing a sample of the previous step for comparison. Very well done.
great vids, pleased at no airbrushing (old school). new into 6mm area and like many thought it was too difficult to paint but you made it look a bit easier. im def going down this route for team yankee. please keep vids coming, thanks.
Hi there! I'm brand new to Micro Armor and recently bought the US Urban Combat Command box, and I found your video very helpful on how to paint the vehicles! I have little experience with models this small so it really helps to see someone try it. My question to you is, which method of painting is better for modeling these small models if you just want basic detail. I don't really want to spend hours just to paint a few miniatures. Does the modeling require an airbrush or just paintbrushes? Thanks, and if I have more questions I'll be sure to ask.
I'm glad you found the video useful. Good luck with your 6mm experience. I find this scale to be great fun to game with. Personally, I don't use an airbrush. I have though about getting one, but so far, I stick with a regular brush. Some may say that an airbrush is the quicker way to paint these, but I can't say. Using a brush and some pretty simple techniques (as seen in the video), you can paint models fairly quickly and to a reasonable standard. One way to speed up the process, is if you find a spray can with the base color you want to use. Then all you need to do is wash and drybrush. I hope that helps.
Hi, thanks for good vids, i'm trying to paint my 6mm GHQ M1A1 with Summer Verdant MERDC or NATO 3 color camo, could you suggest adequate colors for them?
I've not done any MERDC camo schemes myself, but I'd go to my local game store and find a medium green, a light green, a tan, and black. I'd suggest a lighter color than you think is appropriate, as it is nice to have bright colors at this scale to make the models stand out on the table. Also, if you put a wash on the model, it will darken the colors a bit. I hope that helps.
I just got my 10 M1A1s and 10 T-80s in the mail today, so I'm in the same boat. For the MERDC camo, I just found this link...it might be helpful: www.cybermodeler.com/armor/m1/m1_profile01.shtml Also, check out Allen Rockwell's blog...he has massive amounts of Microarmor, much of it in MERDC of one variety or the other. I'm just about to prime my stuff in a minute. My 1 attempt to airbrush micro armor camo didn't turn out so well, so I'm gonna stick one color for now. Good luck!
Great job, I ended up picking up the green Vallejo for my Sherman's, this helped a lot! Now I was planning on using model masters desert sand camp color for my Abrams company to keep them traditional. How do you think I could pull that off? And I like the idea of using citadel paints, my friend is into warhammer so I might be able to get some ideas from him. Keep up the great work Sean!
I think you could use a similar process. Use the desert sand color then wash with a brown shade/ink; I think agrax earthshade would work, but you might want to water it down a little. Then dry brush it with the original color (or a slightly lightened shade of the original color).

Almost all of my 6mm is based on those metal bases. My only problem with them is that they are so thin that I end up picking up the models instead of the base.

Gauntlet does not carry GHQ products. I've found used models there on occasion, but not very often.

I've noticed that as well. I'm hoping a good dull coat will keep the paint job from getting beat up.
