  • MacBooks are great machines but even I will admit they are costly. I highly recommend looking at refurbished Macbooks from local electronic stores as well as online stores such as Amazon & eBay. This video I visit common sites and what I look for myself when purchasing refurbished MacBooks. Amazon's renewed is a goldmine and offers a 90-day return window for you get a long term use of the MacBook.

Excellent advice! In the beginning of the pandemic I was on zoom all day, my iMac had a problem, when it was getting repaired I found ONE open box entry level MacBook Air. It was temporary fix when I had no choice. When my iMac was repaired I gave the MacBook Air to a good friend! Even tough I wouldn't buy a basic entry level machine, I would do it again!

I'd rather spend the money for new. Apple doesn't refurb their products in-house. It goes to a variety of third party rework vendors who often underpay and quota their technicians. The whole "Second set of eyes" thing doesn't matter if the eyes aren't well paid or skilled.
Obviously for some, the idea of having a warranty for any issues the rework process causes is good enough and power to them. For me, spending a little extra on brand new just makes sense.
Again, this is my standard for my purchasing. It's not a judgement of those who see the risks differently.

Buy refurbished Macs/iPads/iPhones only if they’re **Apple Certified Refurbished**… Any other “refurbished/renewed” is not worth it - nobody else does the same amount of controls, checks, tests, etc. during the refurbishing process Apple does, so nobody else will ever have the same quality as Ap.C.R. Refurbished Apple products from anywhere that’s not Apple are in reality just “Used” repaired machines and not truly refurbished.

awwwww you were doing so good up till you said stay away from macbooks that use intel.......thats only true if you are an impatient person or you are using a mac for work and time is key .....other then that an intel with some decent amount of ram is going to more then fine for most end users......and you may even be lucky enough to grab one of the older intels thats has upgradable ram and hard drive. Honestly tho just stay away from mac all together....new or used...unless you need it for a specific reason since they are soooooooo over priced compared to other brands. You are looking at stuff thats 1400 , you can get a brand new laptop for that thats more then good for most ppl or with a desktop quite the lil gaming rig that will blow the doors off the mac. Everyone over the last few yrs thinks they need a laptop....why....unless its leaving your house on the regular then you dont need one....its a big fat want....not a need

refurbished is not brand new my friend......@ 2min you said brand new. Brand new means never owned and never opened.

While he may have said “brand new”, but I believe he implied it is ‘like brand new’. No need to be so pedantic my friend.
As for my own experience, I purchased a refurbished M1 MacBook Air directly from Apple a couple of years ago and I couldn’t tell the difference. It was immaculate. I honestly believe Apple uses their refurb store to sell overstock and cuts their losses by calling them “refurbished”. In the end, it’s a win for us, the consumers.

I just bought an "open box" MBP M2 16 from eBay for $1699. Came like new with all original packaging but had obviously missed their cleaning process. I complained and got another $400 partial refund. BEST.DEAL.EVER
