    'Find a reference that supports the following statement: ...' is confirmation bias brought to perfection. Also, AIs biggest strength is to immitate what has existed before, not to generate wholly new things

    Writing a well-researched paper requires a diligent approach towards reading and analyzing source material. While AI tools can assist in the process, it is important to avoid complacency and strive for excellence. As PhD students, it is crucial to acknowledge and respect the challenges that our parents faced during their own academic journeys. By adopting a proactive and dedicated attitude, we can overcome obstacles and achieve success in our own studies.

    • @yoloswaginator

      100% agree, because I respect the challenges my ancestors faced during their academic journeys (doubt there were many) I refrain from using the internet or even calculators altogether and rely on an Abacus. That‘s where I draw the line.

    Academic papers need to adapt to new standards of consuming content. It is a waste of time for both the researchers and the reviewers. There is no major benefit for the field of study much less to society as a whole. Society is the actual funding entity for most research (tax payers) so we should be demanding actual solutions from academics.

    Horrible advice! Reading abstracts is already boring in general, mostly since most authors rewrite the same boilerplate banalities about a subject again and again, citing the same references etc. And now, this tendency will accelerate with AI. Then, we definitely need AI to detect that the abstract has not been generated by AI 🙃

    This is ridiculous. Abstract is the last piece of paper you write. You never start with an abstract

    • @yoloswaginator
      @yoloswaginator ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This might work for you, but don‘t assume that this is what „one“ always does. For me, first setting up some rough structure helps me iterate fast, and a tentative abstract helps narrow down the potential paths the paper can take during the process.

    • @VladimirBlagoderov
      @VladimirBlagoderov ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@yoloswaginator You are mistaken structure for an abstract. The structure of a scientific paper was stable for at least 60 years: introduction, methods, results, discussion; with additional bits and bobs when needed. If you write an abstract before a paper it is like having an advert before you got a product. That's how things are done in marketing, not in academia - do you want to consider a career change?

    This is where the buck stops for me. If you are using AI tools to do the job for you... where the heck is the 'journey' of learning how to write an academic article or thesis? While I do appreciate some of your videos, to me using AI to write articles is a very clear demonstration of academic misconduct and sheer cheating. Where is the challenge? Where is the critical analysis that humans should have if they are to enter academia? How can you demonstrate any cognitive competency if you are not making the effort, you are not developing it? If you don't like academia, you certainly have other options, but I do not think it is helpful to air these cutting-corner videos. I am catching students using this AI already and they are far from having learned anything in the process other than asking a robot to write their assessment.
