    Also, being a big Beretta M9 fan (US Navy veteran; big fan of DA/SA hammer-fired, steel frame guns), definitely agree that a P 38 would be a god choice in WWII and beyond as a service sidearm.

    I have one, svw45, with the star and a BH stamping, for Bundesheer. It is P.38 made by the French at Mauser and given later to Austria to contribute to its rearmement. It has copper colered steel grips and blued (re?)finish. A beautiful gun!

    I recently purchased a post war P38 SVW 45 S/N 8596 h, with all matching numbers. The pistol was blued, having the waffen & French acceptance stamps on the barrel and block and only the star on the slide. The frame has the s/n only, the ironic thing is the grips are black Bakelite. Furthermore the gun was imported into the US, when I don't know, some of the bluing was removed on the bottom of the slide and was chemically etched "made in w Germany inter arms alex va 9mm P". The pistol came with a JVD P38 U stamped magazine with no date or waffen stamps.

      Are these P.38's steel framed still?

    • @BradTracy1
      @BradTracy1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LegacyLoot yes, my pistol frame is steel. It wasn't until the late 50s or early 60s that the aluminum frame was introduced by walther.

    So many of the SVW 45 & 46 marked, french production P-38s were issued to both the French army and the French Foreign Legion engaged in combat rolls in Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam in the early 1960s. So many disappeared within that conflict. Several of these pistols were taken from captured North Vietnamese soldiers and dead vietcong.

    Congratulations on the new house. The gun wall will look great no matter how it is configured.

    Great video. I wish I could help with ideas for the wall but I can’t even figure out how to set mines up and you have way more goodies.

    My vote is to ditch the peg board. Maybe something more classy like long guns in a cabinet with glass doors and handguns on the wall.

      Classy or not, that's a lot of dusting!

    I miss my p38. I got rid of it because if you activated the decocker, it would shoot 2 rounds off.

      That's definitely a problem. Hope you made that clear when you sold it. Was it not worth fixing for you at the time?

    Learned something new day, have you looked into the gun wall system that Ian from forgotten weapons has set up? That’s a pretty slick way to display your collection.

    The French took all of the tooling with them. That's how Manhurin ended up with the P38 tooling. That started a relationship with Walther that led them down to making PP and PPK pistols.

      Manhurin took Walther tooling and plans and lead Walther down the path of the PP and PPKs starting in 1935? 🤯

    My "Grey Ghost" pistol's locking block is in the white but still has the French star on it. To hell with the pegboard... get the Gallowtech or Tactical walls setup. You can afford it with those big TH-cam bucks ;).

    What do you think about their triggers? They have an incredibly bad rap for being heavy but I actually think they have one of the best triggers for a military sidearm. The ignition is great, it's safe, smooth, there's multiple strike ability and it's predictable. It feels just like a double action revolver. ..Because it's lockwork basically IS that of a double action revolver.

    Seems that I read (in the 90’s) that a Star marked slide indicates the pistol was a Russian built gun as the factory was captured by them. Mixed, non matching numbers. Now everyone is saying it’s a French made gun. What am I missing?

    • @LAu-zg8cx
      @LAu-zg8cx 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is not the same star. Russian capture have an X. If they were issued to East-German Vopos, a shield with sunburst was stamped.
