    I hope you come back and do Newark Pennsylvania Station buses including Greyhound and Bolt services. I did it myself last year and it came out great! By the way, great video! I'm surprised that there was no description details.

      When the ramp is positioned in the middle? When the kneeler leans the bus, instead of dropping evenly? When a passenger has to step on a platform to sit, and possibly faces the rear? When the bus bounces because of the short wheelbase..........? No geniuses running the agency.

    • @AviTheWolf
      @AviTheWolf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Chris-gi9ch this is a European style, the specs of this bus are very common in Europe. They do transit different out there and I guess AC Transit wanted to experiment

      The ramp in the middle does give greater accessibility for those with larger/longer mobility devices, and they can easily get turned around.......They are still pieces of crap.

      These buses are definitely not common across the USA

      @@AviTheWolf Experiment where in many places the ramp can only be deployed on the roadway or where the bus is a nuisance? Or while knowing alot of seniors take the bus, and one has to step up on a higher platform for seating? And then the MCI's? They're just a bunch of idiots.........

      I think he meant to record some buses that would usually be on San Pablo Ave, such as 18, 72, 72M, 72R, 76, ETC.
      You’ll most-likely be able to catch some of those buses in Richmond, CA.

    Pure junk. Hated them them from the day they arrived. I'll be glad when they are turned over and auctioned off. Worst buses ever. I'm speaking about the first gen. 3-door models. The second batch (2-door model) was 100 times better. The articulated models are pretty bad too.

    • @transitvideosbayarea
      @transitvideosbayarea 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What's wrong with the 3 door and articulated varients? Ride quality? Noise? Looks?

    • @rondacus
      @rondacus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@transitvideosbayarea The 3-door model (A330) is rather rider UNfriendly (especially for elderly patrons). It had unusual rises to seating (8 inches above the floor which is difficult for some patrons) and just impractical. The layout called for an extended front and rear overhangs which of course, shortened the wheelbase, resulting in a harsher ride. The operators complained about the front overhang as it compromised the turning radius.
      The articulated version (AG300 series) still carried the unusual layout...just 20' more of it. 😕 The rear of the coach however, was rather comfortable and accommodating.
      They were hailed as low-floor coaches, but they are absolutely not configured as TRUE low-floor coaches. This compromised accessibility for wheelchair-bound patrons who would have to board the buses by the middle door (when traditionally they would board through the front door).
      And yes, they are ugly when compared to the more traditional offerings from Gillig, New Flyer and NABI.
      The whole Van Hool...thing was the brainchild of one of AC Transits directors who had this more chic, nouveau, European look in mind when he brought the proposal to the board to purchase these Eurojunk buses. The A300L 40' (2nd gen.) offered a return to a more acceptable, rider-friendly design and traditional configuration to the applause of the public. And the difference is literally "night and day". 😁

      @@rondacus Ah, thanks. I personally quite liked them as I am used to and like Euro style buses like the Mercedes Benz Citaro, Man Lion's City, Volvo and Alexander Dennis. I do get your point. The fact that there are 2 steps to get to some seats are annoying. I have seen other low entry buses (low floor in the front only) that have the wheelchair ramp in the middle door and I too have always thought that it would be difficult to pay the fare unless someone was accompanying the person in the wheelchair. Many Euro style buses have the Euro look with a traditional seating layout so I am also perplexed by the weird layout. The third door had so much potential (such as Clipper only boarding at the rear) but sadly, the low ridership meant that the A300L had a more useful layout. One thing to note is that the front overhang is actually not that long, even compared to traditional North American buses, it's more about the rear overhang. It's kinda sad that AC Transit decided to get the Van Hools instead of the originally intended Citaro as I feel like they would have faired better.

      If you thought these were bad, the Crown Ikarus 286 series articulated buses were quite nightmarish, outside of the powertrain (Cummins NHHTC Big Cam 290 or 300 hp and Allison HT740, HT747 or Voith D864). And yes, AC Transit did own quite a few of those (1700-1714), though theirs were hand-me-downs from Santa Clara VTA (originally their 2501-2515).
