That first, initial dropping was sick. . Looks like someone is enjoying the orca
Too much fun Luke!
Bought an orca last year, no regrets. Absolutely love it. It's great on powder and carves on piste!
The orca was so good I bought the golden orca too. Golden orca is more of an aggressive all mountain board. Love it. Not as turny/nimble but plows through everything with ease.
Awesome!
I have the golden orca for freeride, I really love it. I use my Korua Dart for groomers and carving. For everything else I use the orca.
I have 2023 Orca and I aboslutely love the design on it and the feel of it riding pow or groomed runs! such a sick board
That design is killer!
Thanks Kevin. I was on the Orca for the past 6 years and this year I went back to a little more traditional camber with the Jones Hovercraft 2.0. I would agree about it being a do everything board minus park riding (which I don’t do). I can also say the lib tech plows through everything and allows me to be lazy when I want to or get fatigued,
Whereas my Hovercraft requires me to always be on edge and alert ( I occasionally get those twitchy moments on this board on flats or mellow cambered runs) I don’t miss that feeling 🤪. I still have my Orca and am considering taking it out for a couple days, but I’m fearful I may fall back in love with it again. I’m 6’3 200 and ride it at 159
That’s great feedback, I can see why it’s tough to choose between the two!
Took my orca there on Sunday! I’ll have to find that spot you dropped in, looks so fresh
All hale the great and noble orca
I really like the Orca a lot on powder days where it’s deep enough to not bottom out on firm snow. The float and quick-slash surfiness is first class.
Conversely, I really dislike it on groomers or even older compacted snow. It just doesn’t have the powerful carving prowess of my other boards. The nose is soft and wants to noodle when digging into hard turns and it easily gets bounced around in bumpy snow.
Overall, I would say it’s not a good all-arounder or quiver-killer, and would classify it as a powder specialist.
I have the same one! It’s dope. Are u using ur bindings all the way back ?
Got the Orca two seasons ago after riding my buddy’s Apex for a few runs. Was hooked after switching back to my old Flow Merc and dropping on my ass in the first turn. The serrated edge on the Orca is just something else. The amount of pressure you can put into your turns feels surreal. Almost as if you were on a train track. I’m 95kg and can easily push a 153cm Orca. That makes the board extremely light weight and quick turning. But the big downside is pop. Hitting side jumps isn’t really fun with the Orca because you don’t get much air from ollies. Atleast in my fatass case
Hi Kevin, thanks for the video. What camera is it and what selfie stick are you using? It is awesome that you can shoot from the front and from the back, looks sick. Cheers
It's probably an Insta 360 x3 (or similar). They're awesome for boarding.
Thank you! I’ve got the Insta360 x4
Im deciding between the
lib tech orca
Burton gril master camber
And Capita mega merc
What mic are you using paired with the X4 to be able to talk and ride with it sounding that clear?
Looking good! Advise on sizing: I’m 177cm (5’10) 86kg (190lbs) size 44 boots (10US)
Main board is a T.rice Pro 157Wide. Primarily in France Alpes. Looking for a nimble Orca, for all mountain. should i go 150 or 153?
Thnks in advance!
Great pow board.
Dude my buddies orca (2024 season) is peeling badly. The top sheet has peeled on all edges and started day one. Hopefully they fixed this issue.
could you know the difference between orca or harpoon?
Kevs been on the orca since the first gen and as an owner i respectfully disagree it doesn’t hold up with how i ride. In fresh snow its alright but being so light underfoot it doesnt handle tracked runs super well.
I felt the same, hence got the apex orca. It smoothes out the chop and chunder very well
Thanks for your feedback on it Adam!
Apex is where it’s at
How do you connect your Board wth the backpack?
How is the Orca vs the Excavator?
Pretty similar actually. The Orca turns a little easier because of the C2x
Excavator
I’m also tossing up between these 2. I already own a Super DOA, looking for a more powder focused board. Concerned the Orca will feel too loose with the C2X profile. Any opinions welcome
@ I have an Orca. It's pretty fun, but can be a little auto-spinny. I'm heading out to Japan today, but there are a lot of general touring days before hitting Hakuba. So we decided against lugging gear. The rental shop might have an Excavator in size, so I was trying to decide between that and some other options.
Rhythm rentals in Happo has a 150 excavator that I rode just last week. It was a dream to ride after 50-60cm of fresh pow. Have fun!
I’m 5’11 200 with a size 11 boot. I’m torn between the 159 and 156. I usually ride a 162, but have heard so many different opinions on sizing. What do yall think I should go with
156
156 or 153. You can ride these shorter then normal. I’m 6’1 with size 13 and got the 157 apex orca and wish I got the 153
156
what is your angle on this?
18 and 0
What size do You Ride ?
Downsize 3-6cm for an Orca. I personally prefer the 159cm Orca and I normally ride boards that are 162-166cm
My Jones flagship 162w. My Orca is 153. Flagship for blasting groomers and Orca for resort pow hunting.
159
Libtech boards are excellent. Lighter than competitors like burton. I have a ride and a burton but my libtech is the everyday driver.
I’m a big fan of Libtech too!
is this sponsored by lib tech?
No, I bought this about a month and a half ago for full price
The simple answer is yes, it’s overhyped…. The more complicated is no because the Orca can be a quiver killer and most people don’t own 10+ different boards at any given time that are meant for ultra specific types of riding and conditions. The Orca can be a do everything mountain board(minus park riding), and so for a lot of beginner to intermediate riders or boarders on a budget, it can be the perfect snowboard
Interesting take!
What size are you riding? How heavy and tall are you?
I’m 195 pounds and this a 159
Lmk when you wanna go hit The Bird! I’m in Utah for my last month chasing pow!
I own one among other boards, and yes it’s over hyped! I have boards that do everything better than this one to be honest… remove the T rice image behind and it’s just another anonymous board in the board world!
Tell us about the alternatives that do everything better? I don't find the orca does anything the best but in the end it's a fun ride. I consider it my slow/soft/cruising board. But that's relative to XV rossi, hovercraft, backwoods lineup.
@ Dépends on the riding style of course. If you like speed, the flagship pro or even regular flagship would do great, i would easily compare this Orca with some of the powder oriented twins of the Bataleon line up or even some entry level RIDE boards. The Souly grail from Amplid is more nimble, more damp, better at high speed, better edge hold, might float a bit less? But gets MUCH less hype. I truly believe this board is hyped by people who don’t have the chance to try something else, but quite sure if you let them demo 7 or 8 boards, most of them will end up not going for the Orca!
@Theabtheabtheab that's fair. I've never had the chance to demo boards before. I got an orca after riding with some random guy during a deeeep day and was amazed how well he kept up with me on a 147! I found an orca for 379$ and snagged it. I find myself pairing it with my other boards for later in the day when I want to cruise slower and not have to worry about mach 3 speeds.
