I saw a Degas quote the other day that said, “I’m glad to say I haven’t found my style yet. I’d be bored to death.” I’ve been going back and forth about whether reaching that point of “boredom” in my art will be a good thing for me or not. Is there going to be a time in my life when I can comfortably sit down and know exactly what to paint and how to paint it because it’s always what I do and its what Im good at. Or will I like degas never be satisfied to reach that state. Either way, its comforting to know that many artists struggle with this too.

This new change in your art speaks so much to me, I'm in love with it personally. The piece you painted here, mentioning what feelings you were expressing, I relate so very much. Trying to fit in with certain groups of people and shifting yourself a bit to do so is very much like fading your actual self into the background. Since the real you is masked, you will never fully feel like you fit no matter what you do to match the mold. What I have learned to do instead is let others fit in with me instead because ignoring the you in the background isn't fair to yourself. If people do not like who you actually are, they are not worth your time. To clarify, this isn't exactly life advice I'm trying to hand you, it was more of my own experience pouring out into this comment. As I said, your new work speaks to me.
I just love how you're trying other things as an artist. I do believe that's the beauty of art in general. You try other art medias to see what you like and / or try a new style to see what speaks to you. And as always, amazing job on your painting!!! Please keep doing what you're doing!!

Interesting idea. I haven't try overlapping many figures. Later today, I will try. Hope to do some watercolor painting, I'm very beginner. Recently, I did some marker drawing. Watercolour is the only medium painting I have. Maybe there is a box of acrylics, unopened laying somewhere in my room. Very happy, I did a drawing to remember Dragonball artist Mr Akira Toriyama, since I read Dragonball comic, I love the style he draws.
You made a great point, finding your own style could be a double edge sword.. should we even strive to find our own style or just let our mind and desires take us to whatever comes to mind? 🤔 great WOA by the way!

There's what we call experimental painting. either inspired by the works of masters or simply looking for what you could create that makes you satisfied as a painter. You would judge for yourself. If you feel this is a good style and make a series of these type of paintings. you can prepare for a one--woman or a group show. Figurative paintings are great ! They sell fast. Nice work Ashleigh. I see movement and I like the colors.

I'm not really someone who comments but I just started painting after years of saying how I couldn't paint. I got into other visual art hobbies and always compared myself or my abilities to others and was too afraid to try again. To process trauma going on in my life and capture good moments, I tried painting again. It feels like overcoming an emotional funk deciding how I am going to portray something with which technique, materials, etc. but this video was very encouraging. Thank you ~
