Vietnam safe... Definitely no comparison with downtown Cleveland. Very nice walkabout and so much to take away from it about the real and humble Da Nang... This channel deserves 10 times more views but that would require deprogramming the sheeple.

I love beautiful Da Nang. It's one of my favorite cities. We visited my in-laws there about 3 years ago and will probably retire there.
They build everything in SE Asia out of brick because termites will eat wood-frame buildings.

Termites... That's the clue I was waiting for. Bricks is the solution then... No bloody mucking around !

It’s weird watching an American talking and sharing the experience, the views and instructions about my country but fortunately I do learned from you. Also, like you, I like walking around and seeing average working people carry on with their normal everyday life.
As far as I know, Vietnamese people always regard the Westerner and with particularly you the American very high and with some admiration too.
Your comments are very honest and truly reflecting the very everyday life. This helps others who come for a visit later in the future that including me, thanks!

Just a quick and general contribution to why the houses and buildings in Danang (and Vietnam) are constructed with very heavy metal, concrete and bricks. Traditionally, we want to keep all of our property, wealth (if any) and furniture in good shape, safe and intact from any natural disasters such as storms/typhoons and/or fire. The steel and concrete buildings do a very good job in this. In the past, we were stuck in poverty trap as we have to rebuild our houses nearly every year because of typhoons, which make us lose nearly everything we has worked for. We don't use or buy insurance and we don't have much support from outside sources as everyone is in the same situation. You can imagine what it's like to rebuild your house every year and the debt increases. The concrete and steel building help us cope with typhoon, fire, flood much better than the other weaker types of houses. We don't have to do much maintenance either as they are concrete and steel and are supposed to last for at least 50 years. We only have to repaint and decorate the house annually if we like. It's like a small fortress of every family to protect their hard earned properties and to cope with typhoons and floods which are very common here. Some houses look ugly but our lives getting better thanks to this kind of construction.

Hi Tommy, I would look in the My An area , that seems to be where a lot of the expats live. I used a service called "Grab" when I was in Da Nang, it's like Uber except you pay with cash. A very easy way to get around without owning a vehicle. Most local trips were $2.00, with longer trips never being more than $8,00. I also did a LOT of walking. Da Nang is a very pedestrian friendly city.

I no longer live in Da Nang. I looked at about 14 rooms when I was there and Finally decided to stay at the Vivian Hotel, about one block from the beach. I had a nice serviced studio apartment for about $410 a month (off season) + utilities. It's a bit far North away from the tourist district so you may not like it, but for someone like me who wanted to get away from the expats it was perfect. There are several Vivian hotels in Da Nang, I stayed at the one at:
