The classical guitar is still just a version of an acoustic guitar. It’s not special enough to have its own category outside of a category it already fits into. Edit: I have realized that using the phrase, “THE acoustic guitar”, has created a lot of confusion leading to people believing I was referring to the steel stringed guitar often referred to as the acoustic guitar. When I say acoustic guitar I am referring to every guitar that uses an acoustic chamber aka its hollow body to amplify the sound produced by the strings.
@@reallyepicguy it’s a certain type of acoustic guitar made by a luthier with specific strings in order for it to make a specific sound. I believe the strings are nylon originally made from animal guts

@@Tortualex All due respect, I disagree, because instruments are always categorized by HOW they produce sound, not WHERE they produce sound. If it was categorized by where the sound came from, brass and woodwind instruments would fundamentally fit into the same category, and flutes would be a brass instrument (which they are not). Not only this, but this is also why harpsichords are string instruments, because they are plucked, and that's HOW they produce sound. On the flip side, a piano has their strings hit (which is HOW it produces sound), hence why a piano is percussion. And there is my essay on why piano is percussion lol
☝️🤓 Ermmm, akshually it's the piano and the clavichord which derive from the harpsichord, and the organ is its own thing (a wind instrument), being the first keyboard instrument. 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Piano is undeniably a percussion instrument. This is due to the fact that sound is only produced when a hammer hits a string, though it does have strings it is still a percussive mechanism creating the sound. The dulcimer is another stringed instrument under the percussion category due to the fact that you hit the strings with hammers.
@@Tortualex That is 100% true, but instruments are generally categorized by how the sound is produced. Pianos could have vibraphone or glockenspiel keys in them and work the same. Strings are used because it is tunable, smaller, and sounds better if we’re being honest. When an instrument is considered a stringed instrument it is played by vibrating the strings with your fingers or some extension (Ex. bow, pick). As I explained it is percussion gust like the dulcimer due to the action performed to create the sound rather that what the sound comes from. I am in no way disagreeing with you but I personally believe piano should be categorized as a percussive instrument rather than a stringed instrument.
@@NuggetBo1 by researching more I found that piano is both a string instrument and a percussion instrument, that's percuted string, so I guess we are both correct.
@@Tortualex I’m not trying to argue the fact that it isn’t a stringed instrument because it literally has strings, but I’m more expressing an opinion of which I believe it is more of. One of the main reasons I consider it mainly a percussion instrument are that it uses hammers but also that the layout is exactly like other percussion instruments like marimba, vibraphone, tubular bells, etc. Due to this fact it is often played by percussionists since they are so familiar to the layout. This is not always the case but very common.

When the keys are pressed, feedback of sound is delayed because of the travel time for air to go through the pipes, and when played in the setting of a chamber orchestra, orchestra, or even an ensemble, the organist would have to play their part slightly ahead of the other musicians in order to be in sync with the rest of the orchestra. (I doubt portative, theatre, positive, etc. organs have this same issue since they are much smaller.) So pretty much, while drummers do in fact have to be on point with rhythm, certain pipe organs may or may not have a more difficult time keeping in perfect tempo when playing with other musicians

Flugelhorn has valves - it's actually a tuba that has been shrunk to the length/pitch of a trumpet, with Euphonium being the in-between size. Their very conical shape makes them sound mellow. The Sousaphone is a marching version of the Tuba, named after sousa. The cornet, tenor/alto horn and baritone horn are the saxhorn family, less mellow than the tuba/flugel family, but more mellow than trumpets. The Sax in the name is from Adolph Sax who invented them (and also the Saxophone) Trumpet and trombone (and bass trombone and sackbut) are the more cylindrical brass instruments with the brightest sound. Trumpets used to have no valves and be roughly twice the length of the current instruments. Also there is the Cimbasso for the lowest pitched conical instrument - fairly rare now. Horn/French Horn and its variants, Vienna horn and Natural Horn doesn't fit into these 3 categories, but is in fact better than them all (surely I couldn't be biased)! A beautiful sounding and beautiful looking circular instrument you stick your hand in the end of. Also, Adolph Sax, at the request of Wagner made the Wagner Tuba (for once not having Sax in the name) to be played by horn players and sound like a hybrid between horn and trombone. It's great for solemn but warm passages, and is also used by Richard Strauss, Bruckner and Stravinsky. Bugles are the instrument played by the military that in modern times still mostly has no valves. I reckon it's probably between a cornet and flugel in bore shape.
