You can also eradicate ants from your house using it. Mix it with sugar and the ants will take it back to their colonies and poison the whole thing. Little trick a contractor friend taught me.

Just a quick scientific note: borax does not "melt" iron oxide, but rather dissolves it. It's like when you pour hot water onto salt crystals. The water dissolves the salt and carries it away.

Honestly he seems like a dude who gets flustered and pissed off easily at his work. Just like me to say the least. Nothing wrong with that. But the shit you're talking about is what we see on camera. He is a TH-cam personality and they get more views from positivity and determination. How much cussing do you think happens off camera? Throwing tools? Saying fuck this and going for a snack just to pick the work back up in 45 minutes of sitting around doing nothing? Chasing a shot with a smoke? We won't ever see the true hard worker he is because these channels are all about creativity and positive perseverance. Lose the obsessive false understanding of someone you never met. It's entertainment and informational at it's core. I'm subscribed and I love watching it. But God damn it quit being weird. When he was teamed up with Alec they both said they were quite flip flopped in personalities compared to each other in real life vs their youtube personalities.

Can you explain in a future video to some of us who are new to forging and the fluid dynamics of metals, why is a small crack in the metal so catastrophic to the integrity of the piece? What are the dangers to completing the project with that “minor” defect? I’ve enjoyed watching you and Alex for a long while and I think giving some time to this concept for non-smiths might help provide context to why these types of faults in the piece can be so heart wrenching. I use a round knife all the time and have even made my own. It may work better for cutting curves if the handle was shorter. One of the advantages of the shape is if you raise the handle up parallel to the leather more of the blade is in the cut and it wants to cut straight. If you lower the handle towards the leather just the point is in the cut and it can turn tighter corners. A shorter handle actually makes it a more versatile tool because you can change the angle more.

The Round knife is a great knife and you did a great job on it.
    1) How much to make one?
    2) Suggest making the sharp edge (bevel) twice as long/wide. Everyone makes a small sharp edge, I doubled mine (made it wider) and it makes it a Lot easier to slice thick leather as it doesn't have to "wedge" the leather out of the way to finish the cut as much. It is more delicate of an edge but works much better and it is in the hands of people who can control it.

Will, I'm not a knife Smith or a Smith of any kind actually. I do fancy myself a pretty good wood worker though. Anyway I've noticed that you often seem to round off the end on your twist Damascus bars. I wonder if some wedges hammered into the recieving end on the twisting machine between the bar and receiver would help to stop that. Just a thought i had figured I'd share.

    • @Zach-ku6eu

I love the segment of a different craftsman using your creation. A+ and would love to see more like this.

Once again such a wholesome video.
BTW, lemmie speak for the non blacksmiths who watch your channel.. thank you for finally explaining WHY you use Borax when forge welding... been watching Alex for years and for all that he's talked about using it at times, never the breakdown as to why... and the why proved really fascinating.

Go Will! Beautiful job! I love the handle design with the raised center line and the Damascus blade is gorgeous.

    Music was amazing! Loved it.
I really love that you traded a knife for a sheath for a different knife! You crafted something beautiful for something beautiful! Back to how it used to be.

I love seeing the making of the knife, and then seeing it being used by the owner after. Puts the tool in context of why it is the way it is.

Easily one of the hardest blades I personally have made to date. To achieve the insane sharpness and a pull hook just as sharp and even… it was a joy.. I know it’s used often so all the hard work was worth it.

Great video as always. I'm loving how you keep showcasing these people and their crafts that they use your tools in.

Will can you include in a video describing what exactly slag is coming off the red hot steel and any and all things you know about it. No one seems to say anything about it (probably because its not wanted) but I'm interested to know all about it!
