I always loved this song, it's about a one sided love for someone. This song explains how a person can love someone so much that they would give any, and everything to just have a piece of that person, you would put everybody else on hold for that person even if they don't reciprocate the love, or actions. Just a beautiful song that has honest human emotions.

You’re right. It is unreciprocated love and the pain of it is very moving. Unfortunately the other side of it is that this person is also willing to take and overlook the abuse he is suffering. The one he loves is given a free pass to use and abuse him whether they do so knowingly or unconsciously. That is very painful for the one on the receiving end. A love filled with doubt, confusion and an invalid existence. Can that even be called love?
A second thought to this was that it’s possible that he is actually the one who messed things up with the woman he loves and she no longer has anything else she can give him. It could be his guilt, remorse and certainty that she is the love of his life. A declaration that he is now forever bound to her, patiently awaiting and withstanding any abuses she throws his way. Because he knows he ruined their love.

I walked into a Target store in Dallas, Texas back in 2009 an asked an employee (back when they had employees to help customers...before Covid), where I could find a CD by Maxwell. The Afro-American girl was extremely surprised that a Hispanic guy even knew who Maxwell was. Maxwell is an incredible, totally underrated talent that has not been given the credit he deserves.
