Man I love your reviews/first impressions because your preferences are perfectly inline with mine. Most of what you said is why I don’t have a shaman. May one day but not today

There's 3 new versions of shaman in the works.
An FRN version, a choil-less version and a super lightweight (in Sal's words "racing") version.

I ended getting one sent to me from Knife Center for $238 and when I order mine they said out of stock. Then after a little over 2 weeks I ended up getting one anyway and the one I got was done very well. The is centering perfect and it has an excellent edge on it, but the action was stiff out of the box. It does still needs a little more breaking in, but as far as this exclusive I think it’s one of the top 3 Sharman’s ever done IMO.
    Great review thx 👍🏼

"Looks more like a normal knife, still has the big hole in the blade"
    "Doesnt bother me that much"
    😆

Yeah, it has always seemed to me that for a POCKET knife one that is somewhat similar but fits the bill better in most regards is the manix. But I guess if you really want a folding knife that you can abuse that isn't cold steel...never mind, there's tons of those already. But like you said that shaman sells, so Spyderco knew something about what they were doing.

The Cold Steel AD10 in S35vn is a much better value. Similar ergos but “better” base steel and half the price of the Shaman depending on which retailer you use. But the Shaman will satisfy us emotionally

There is no world or alternate dimension where s35 is better than s90.

    • @captcarl2

He said base steel which is s30v. Also s90v is less tough than s35vn anyway so in some hard use situations that would be superior

S30v/35/45 are pretty interchangeable. I wouldn't say any one is better than the other.

My BHQ M4Carta Shaman wasn’t put together quite perfectly either; the blade was slightly off-center to the left, and the action wasn’t the smoothest. I completely disassembled the knife, lightly sanded the inside of the scales, cleaned and Frog Lubed everything, then carefully reassembled it. Now, the action is smooth as silk, and the blade is completely centered, (zero blade play of any kind). I think the issues with yours could probably be fixed, the same way.
ETA: mine came with blue thread locker on all the screws, btw. I reapplied my own when I reassembled it.

Golden needs to up their game. I purchased the M4 micarta from BHQ, and it was one of the worst finished Spyderco knives I've purchased. Centering was off, the blade bevel was way off, and the finishing on the blade looked like it was executed by Stevie Wonder. Fixed the centering and the blade bevel. It's definitely a user now, and one of my favorites to carry even given the crap finishing. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I’ve had pretty good luck recently with Spydercos fit and finish except the grinds are off pretty consistently. Thanks for warching

Same experience with me. Terribly off-centered blade.

I was very tempted to grab one mysellf, but I already have 2 of them in M4. S90 is good stuff and is what tempted me to get another one lol.
Great knife! I had one of mine reground to a nice thin slicey 9 thou bte beast, the other I left as is, so one slicer, one heavy user.

Did your's have a smell from the micarta by chance? This is one of my first folders with micarta just wondering if it is normal to have a smell to it. Not sure what to compare the smell to

I had the exact same fit and finish issues with mine. But mine was so bad (the blade grinding against the liner, and the pivot refusing to stay tight enough to eliminate screws backing out and blade wobble) that I shipped it off to Spyderco’s warranty/repair dept. Hopefully they can improve these issues. We’ll see upon its return….

Update: I just received my Shaman back from Spyderco’s warranty/repair dept. and they did a great job fixing the issues noted above. It works great now. If you’re still having problems with yours, I’d send it in too.

My s90v Yojumbo has similarly awful grind lines. The grind overall is good, so it doesn't bother me at all but it really is ugly.
I'm not a huge shaman fan, but I really regret not getting one of these.

I’ve noticed with spydercos satin finish on higher carbide steels that it is kind of rough. Steels like k390 and maxamet, I think the shaman not being a ffg makes it look worse. Thanks for watching

Frame lock..or liner lock would be perfection on the Shaman😎👍
