Thanks for the great tour of Danang. I will never forget the night back in 1967 when I was fighting as a Marine in Quế Sơn Valley which is just south-west of Danang City. We had been fighting at least a full Division of North Vietnamese Troops for at least a month and we were taking a lot of casualties. I didn't expect to survive the war and one night after we dug in for the night, I looked to the North-East and saw over the top of a mountain that the sky was lit up brightly. I realized that it must be Danang since that was the only large city in the province. It was like gazing at Shangri-La, so near and yet so far. I was seized by an almost overpowering urge to just start running towards it. To save my life. I didn't run because I knew I would never be able to escape Vietnam until my one year was up. I knew of other Marines came back from R&R, landed at the Danang Airbase, and went AWOL in Danang City. They had no money, didn't speak Vietnamese, and had no passport so they couldn't escape the Country. The US Military Police would always catch them and bring them back to their unit. The Marine Corps hates deserters so they would punish the deserters with even more dangerous combat operations that often results in their deaths. Anyway, I'm so grateful to have survived and came home in one piece.
Now, Da Nang is very beautiful and can you try to come back 1 time again?

I just spent 5 weeks in Vietnam travelling the southern part of the country. When I hit Da Nang I spent 3 weeks there. Loved the beach strip, the people, the culture. I’ll be back!

Great video. I am from New York now here in Vietnam (Saigon) for 30 years and retired the past ten of those years. I love my life here. My first trip to Danang was in 1995 and you can’t imagine the change. Danang is beautiful and probably the best place to live but I am settled into my life in Saigon. If you might want to enjoy a really beautiful day drive try “the road less travelled” being route 14G to Prao which sits on the Ho Chi Minh Highway. Phenomenal beauty.
I lived in Da Nang before covid and highly recommend it too.
I am back in Thailand for now but will return to Vietnam once the visa issues are sorted 👌

I spent 4 months traveling SE Asia and after 2 and 1/2 months on the road in Vietnam, Da Nang was where I decided to rent an extended AirBnB chill out, and try to live like a local before I flew home. I know that after visiting all of the tourist spots Da Nang is sort of underwhelming. It's like the middle ground of what Vietnam has to offer. Pretty but not spectacular. Beaches but with lawn chairs and hotels instead of giant limestone formations like Ha Long Bay. Bustling asian city, but small with basic architecture in comparison to French influenced Hanoi. But if you're looking for someplace for an extended stay after having been everywhere else its sort of perfect. Its got a little bit of everything you'd want. Its big enough to have lots to offer, but small enough that you can get around easy. Its got international cuisine, chain businesses, and of course local offerings. The water is never more than a 15min drive. And theres places to explore if you head inland. And its got an international airport. After I flew home my friends stayed for a couple months. If you're on a short holiday, Da Nang is a city to stay in for a couple days while your on your way to Saigon or Hoi An. But when you've been staying in hostels in village after village, tourist spot after tourist spot, sometimes what you want is a more middle of the road, well equipped, easy to get around place to chill out and get comfortable. For that I love Da Nang. Had one of the best Christmases of my life there. Right before the Pandemic hit.

Dude, I got to tell you how much I enjoyed your video. First I've seen of yours and immediate like what you presented. I was thinking of retiring and moving to Asia and put Thailand on my short list and now you are making me think Vietnam needs a good look too. People seem super nice and beautiful and the prices will help that budget last. The hotel, massage, veggie stand and hot dog place would most certainly be on my places to go.

As far as being quiet- no , population grown and traffic is now really busy… creating lots of pollution and dust/dirt.

Was in Da Nang 3 weeks ago and loved it. Could just spend my days by the sea watching the waves roll in. Temperature is also quite nice (not mega hot like Thailand at the moment). Great place; might make it my hot season go to if they come out with the rumored Vietnam 3 month evisa!

Good going mate I lived in DaNang 2 years & Vietnam 15 years. This year because of the 30 day visa I came to Pattaya and found a better place to live. I am happy you like it there. Thailand is my life now. No more Vietnam had enough cheers mate.
Same 30 day visa in Thailand though isn't it? What made it a better choice visa wise?
@@champagneshade6249 You can get a yearly retirement visa in Thailand if you are over 50. If you are under 50 you can buy a tourist visa for around $50 USD and that get you 60 days which can be further extended for another 30 days.
And hotel cheap comparing to prices in ireland or uk probly food is very cheap to
