Recently I visited a EuroSPAR Supermarket in Moscow (th-cam.com/video/hnZAYLp5qRg/w-d-xo.html) Whilst walking in that store, a shopper told me about this place. Which is owned by the same people. Thanks to a subscriber for recommending I visit this place. These stores are called "Hard Discount" Supermarkets in Russia. Do these stores exist in other countries?

Beer is made with so many cheap and abundant grains and hops found in Russia.
In Russia its usually drunk in conjunction with food and unlike other countries rarely drunk with the intention of just getting drunk.
    Thats what Vodka is for.

Great to see essentials so accessible. Very interesting that it’s a Dutch chain. Cooling rooms are normal for (few- and fewer) smaller stores to save space in cities here in Norway but makes sense to cut costs (for freezers too). Doubles as a public utility where you can always find a sweaty cyclist chilling for an hour picking out which the two types of Babybel they want.

Already in the first year, we managed to create a network of 30 discount stores with a presence in 14 cities of Russia. Today, Smart discounters are not just a chain of stores, they are part of the lives of millions of customers who love and trust Smart. More than 1,500,000 customers make purchases in Smart stores every month. Smart has its own unique format. The slogan of the Smart store chain is low prices for a better life.

The Dutch company licenses out its brand to other companies. Stores in South Africa, Ireland, Switzerland, and Poland are operated by Spar Group in Johannesburg. I had thought maybe the same company runs the stores in Russia but does not seem to be the case. A difference licensee is involved. These stores could actually be Russian owned.

Just as flour is cheaper than sugar, beer made from grains and water is cheaper to make than soda that is made from sugar and water. Other variables are taxes that in some countries tax alcohol higher than sugar and other countries tax sugar higher than alcohol but strangely, all countries tax alcohol free beer the same as alcohol containing beer.

I shop at Aldi in the US, which is similar in concept to Smart. The prices at Smart are much, much lower than in the US, but I don't know how grocery prices compare as a percentage of income. In other words, if Russian wages are lower than US wages when converted to dollars, the grocery prices may be a similar percentage of that total. I saw the Smart watermelons at 60 rubles (less than $1), and a recent price here at Walmart was $6.78 for one watermelon. If there are indeed sanctions on food brands, maybe the fact that Smart/Eurospar is a Dutch company makes the difference. The products may be sold to the Dutch, who then distribute the products to their stores in Russia. But that's just a guess.

We have in the UK Aldi that is very good value but does not have the choice that some supermarket Giants like : Tesco, Sainsbury’s , Morrisons , ASDA , M & S will have however, as i do not have the income i had five years ago, i usually go to Aldi as i can afford to buy a bit more of what i need moreover, i buy the Shop own brand as the quality is nearly as good as the Big Brand names .
I was surprised at the cheap price of Alcohol you were showing here,…….no wonder that there is ( so i have read on the Net ) a Drinking problem in Russia !
    Thanks for sharing Man 🇷🇺😉

US here. Some house brands are inferior, but 3/4 of them as you said go into cooking or baking and so it doesn't make a difference. Sometimes you can use a coupon on a regular brand and have it come out a better price than the house brand. Do they even have coupons in Russia?
