I shop at Aldi in the US, which is similar in concept to Smart. The prices at Smart are much, much lower than in the US, but I don't know how grocery prices compare as a percentage of income. In other words, if Russian wages are lower than US wages when converted to dollars, the grocery prices may be a similar percentage of that total. I saw the Smart watermelons at 60 rubles (less than $1), and a recent price here at Walmart was $6.78 for one watermelon. US here. Some house brands are inferior, but 3/4 of them as you said go into cooking or baking and so it doesn't make a difference. Sometimes you can use a coupon on a regular brand and have it come out a better price than the house brand. Do they even have coupons in Russia?

Thanks for comparing the different stores.
Been to Svetofor yet? Discount harder than rock there)
We have stores like this all over America , Marcs , Daves Market , Savers , Save A lot etc..
Wow that is super cheap, I think heinz ketchup is around 3-5£ here in the UK, food is super expensive now, eggs, milk etc..
Do you have any idea what an apartment in that area would cost to rent?
Across the street they rent for about $750 per month for a 1-bedroom place.
Good to know that polish cocacola in Poland is cheaper than polish coke in Russia

Not all products of the retail chain's internal brand are good in quality or taste. But until you try, you won't know.
Right, somethings are good, others not so.
There is another budget supermarket from Spb Чижик ( Siskin)
There is, I know it very well. th-cam.com/video/kKBTS1K367s/w-d-xo.html
Pobeda is very cheap in Kazan, very basic very limited product range but great for some staples.
US here. Some house brands are inferior, but 3/4 of them as you said go into cooking or baking and so it doesn't make a difference. Sometimes you can use a coupon on a regular brand and have it come out a better price than the house brand. Do they even have coupons in Russia?
Russell from my house i can see Lidl, Aldi, Sainsburys and Waitrose, so i pick and choose.
We have one store in our building, the others are walking distance. th-cam.com/video/Tg4eFSGLsmU/w-d-xo.html
Thank god that the doors are wide enough to let you in 😂
Gee Thanks, I blame my wife's home cooking.
You can always keep your cake hole shut mate!!
Reminds me of a North Korean Pyongyang Store
Really, I haven't been yet to compare the two.
Yes saw the coke. I agree Australia needs much more Retail competition . Everything is far too expensive.
Is there a video that explains what brought you to Russia? Fairly new follower. Love watching your videos on Russia! 😊
The food is way cheaper than in Canada. I'm shocked by the amount of American brands still available.
Layout is typical hard discount, prices not really. Canned Turkey at 139 vs 78 at Fix Price. Kefir 1L at 69 vs 49 at Auchan.
I need to get to an Auchan again soon.
They dont seem to sell Diet soda? or it isnt obvious? i cant have the sugar!
Russia is expected to see an influx of foreign food stores due to the high cost of the domestic food supply chain. These stores can help reduce food insecurity among average citizens. No one should ever face food insecurity, ever. Be blessed!
In these sorts of stores, more than 80% of the goods are locally produced. But I agree with you, no one should not have access to food.
@@TravellingwithRussell At least Russia is not being bombarded with Coke, Pepsi and fast food chains.

Cool Geelong Cats Milk Russell 🐱
They fly it in each morning specially )) Well spotted.
Makes sense to be in English. We are the number one language globally. Russian is not known by many people.
If no one told you yet that was a Turkey on that can. Turkey meat 😀
Ahhhh, Turkey. ok. IT's not a popular type of meat here.
You have a very high population in Moscow so it’s no wonder there are a lot of grocery stores!
it is really nice that nobody is shopping there
its a turkey at 8.25
Thanks. I was a bit confused at the time.
@@TravellingwithRussell no worries baby Russell
👍👍👍👍❤️
I had absinthe once as a uni student back in 2011, in the UK where it is legal, I suspect it wasn't a very good one because (at least to me) it just tasted like mouthwash gone bad and gave me a headache. Can't say I go out hunting for it these days.
Didn’t know about this store. Thanks, Russell
Until walking through the Eurospar the other day, and a subscriber came up and told me about it. I didn't either.
@@TravellingwithRussell This storechain is probably brand new.
Turkey was the image on the can not a pheasant.
The Beer Is Probably Taxed Extremely low If At All At The Production Level . . ?
Maybe, or there might be a tax on sugar maybe.
@@TravellingwithRussell Thanks Russ For Your Insightful Videos Of Rosja . .
More than enough to choose from
Not sure if Absinthe is available here maybe in specialist booze emporiums 🤯
And this is considered a low-cost store as well.
7RUR/1L excise tax for sweet sodas here, that is why beer is cheaper
I suppose Russians will start feeling the economic pinch in the near to midterm , so hard discount supermarkets are a good idea
I was reading this same comment from people 2 years ago though.
@@TravellingwithRussell could become a tradition
Not bad supermarket 😊
I was pleasantly surprised myself.
