    The O-ring on the headset cups is such a good tip!! Thanks for sharing that. Great video!

      I think that's a really good idea. I would do the fine adjustment on the steering head bearings, before fitting that O-ring, as the slight friction will affect the adjusting procedure - you want no slop and no friction in the bearings.

    In one of your previous videos you showed how useful and accurate CAD can be. With the very flat learning curve of CAD I've been able to prototype and perfect several projects in a very short time. Thanks for improving my shop projects and keeping the cost down. In the 43 years or so from my first Suzuki RM80 until now, I have never, ever, ever seen it done the way you did it. Placing the frame onto the front end. Id love to know how much time Ive lost collectively over the years doing it the other way. It was like watching someone invent the wheel. There are few things more satisfying than putting a bike like that together, that is for sure. The color choices are perfect, absolutely beautiful build. You just gave me an idea. When I work with disposable mechanics gloves, often I blow out a thumb or index finger and have to switch to a new pair, even though, like, the ring finger is usually fine. Well, I'm going to start cutting off the good leftover fingers and keeping them in with my greases. Then I can just pull one over my index finger for applying like at 8:14, then throw away the greasy "finger".

    I've got a scale like that one, in my tackle box. I was waiting to see you put it on there, but either I missed it, or you never got to it. I'll take a guess that the frame alone must weigh around 60 pounds.

      @paulbrodie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John, it was right there in the video. The bare frame weighed 23 pounds.

      @@paulbrodie Yeah, I went and viewed it again. Someone must have called me from downstairs, just as it was on. That's pretty light.

    Seeing a threaded headset on a motorbike just makes me want to criticize the bicycle industry and its terrible marketing some more. They all complain about threaded headsets coming loose, especially for events like Paris-Roubaix, but now they're all using carbon steerers and lightly torqued bolts, and the headsets are worse than ever during those events.The only trouble a threaded headset ever gave me was when I didn't have the proper tools to assemble and adjust it properly.
    By the way, Park and a few other bicycle tool manufactures still make a variety of lockring spanners (I remember you bring this up in a previous video), but I get the feeling you'd probably just make your own if you needed to.

      When the Aheadset came out in the bicycle industry, I really didn't think it was the best thing. When you squeeze a tube (the stem does that..) the tube never stays round. But, I got used to them over the years.

    Is that old Campagnolo grease going in the headset?

    • @paulbrodie
      @paulbrodie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't believe it is Campagnolo grease, but it is white lithium.

    You do not use taper roller bearings for the head stock?

    • @paulbrodie
      @paulbrodie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's a replica of my stolen bike. And, all the time I raced that bike never ever thought about the headset because it never came loose, never had a problem :)

    I am very disappointed in this video Paul. I could have watched this for 2 hours and you gave us 16 minutes. I’m going to have to wait a while for you to post more content so I can binge watch. Your quality and craftsmanship is aspirational and a pleasure to watch. I bought a couple of coffees so Mitch can buy some more “film”.
