Klasse!

    I rode the HD 350 version of this in 1973 in Woomera while I was still in school!
    An american serviceman had one and let us ride it a bit on weekends!
    He also had a Kawasaki 350 bighorn, the challenge was if you could start it you could ride it! Challenge accepted and the rides were appreciated!
    Learnt how to ride dirt bikes on both of these and wish I could have purchased both when the serviceman left!

    Wonderful work Sir! When you were doing the carb spring and stating three hands were wanted, made me think of doing this on my Norton Commando with two Amal concentric carbs. I saw a tip on another channel about winding/threading the spring onto the cable after fitting the cable into the throttle slider. Sure enough, this works a treat! No more aching fingers and cramped knuckles trying to hold the spring compressed while fitting the cable.

  • @truthboomertruthbomber5125

    A couple of tips for this awesome two wheeled craftsmanship. First, on the rear brake when you adj the chain you will alter the brake adjustment so be sure to check it before heading out on the track. This is why the cable boss is best placed on the backing plate. Secondly, on your "sex bolt", the bolt should extent to the outer edge of the nut's threads. As it is now if the sleeve section fractures the assembly falls apart and you have no shifting leading to a potential dnf and possibly a wasted weekend, lost entry fees, gas money, etc. If the bolt extends out into the large dia outer portion the sleeve is less likely to fracture AND even if it did the assembly stays together. Good luck with the bike !!

      @@paulbrodie You are supposed to be shortening overly long fasteners so you end up with the slightly larger unthreaded shank of the fastener where it is needed and the new short threaded portion where the threads are needed. Reading Carroll Smith's "Tune to Win" and "Prepare to Win" during my 4 wheel road racing phase of life made me anal about fasteners. I enjoy your content and hope you aren't peeved at constructive criticism !!

Subtle and nice period looking feature finishes...now go and hide a plethora of Ti fasteners across it and it'll shed another lb. or 2. Your workmanship and build are absolutely beautiful. Back in the day I had a number of these street bikes and even with frequent oil changes the roller bearing on the rod big end was only good for about 10 to 20,000 miles. They weren't all that hard to replace but they were expensive, about half the price of the bike's value. .

    • @paulbrodie
      @paulbrodie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Yoda. Yes, the crankpin was also the sludge trap and when it got full it stopped the oil flow to the rod.

    • @thomaslemay8817
      @thomaslemay8817 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      During that time period most engines needed extensive repairs or maintenance requiring getting torn down , especially if pushed hard . A larg number of motorcycles engine had the sludge trap inside the crank shaft or on it . One popular option was an oil slinger that looked like a large washer that had the outside edge rolled over forming a trough that caught and held the sludge after it had passed through the crankshaft. Those also would get full of sludge put the location allowed oil to continue to flow. People who did the recommended teardown are de-sludg got very long engine life. Oil filters changed all that. When I was working in a Dealership of British motorcycle a proper engine tune-up included valve grind and piston rings.
      I remember overhearing a conversation between two men about how incredibly it was to get 50 miles out of a car engine with out doing a valve grind. Remember engin oil only came in single viscosity number ratings. 20w or 30w were common for new engines. 50 was often used in older engines or in hot climates.

    • @paulbrodie
      @paulbrodie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thomaslemay8817 The world certainly has changed. Oil filters, better oils, and much more. I remember using 50W oil in my 750 Norton. Sure was hard to kick over on a cold day. I was a young lad and didn't realize I might be hurting my motor..

    Wonderful! Everything looks perfect and fits together very well! Amazing!! I would think it also has a very low center of gravity because of the layout of the engine. Beautiful bike!! Is it a stock frame or did you build it?

    • @paulbrodie
      @paulbrodie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @paulbrodie
      @paulbrodie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The last 2 years of production (73/74) saw the shifting moved to the left side, but the bikes also gained a LOT of weight, which wasn't the best thing.

    206 is amazingly light. Maybe add some lightening holes in the front number plate mount? On my old Yamaha RD racers, I started with linkage, but eventually just got a short lever, put it in and shifted upside down. Is there room to do that?

    • @paulbrodie
      @paulbrodie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pat, I don't like that system because often the arc of your foot and the arc of the shifter oppose each other. I'm quite happy with what I have. I am lightening the clutch hub, however, and have already saved over 1/2 pound.

    • @PatFarrellKTM

    If you want to get an accurate weight using a bathroom scale under one wheel, the other wheel has to be elevated to the same height as the wheel on the scale. Not having done that, your estimate would be on the light side. In any event, beautiful work.
