      can i please ask, if i have a bluetooth wireless transmitter & receiver, is it possible to use just the transmitter (without using the receiver) and pair it to the phone since the phone has a bluetooth?

    I use a line 6 sonic port VX. You can use it to connect your guitar to your iPhone/iPad and use a host of amps cabs and effects. Plus it doubles as a condenser microphone to record vocals and acoustic guitars. It’s sounds great!

    Thanks for recommending the usb3 adapter. You had recommended it in an earlier video and I bought it. I was using just the camera adapter for my keyboard and garageband sucked the battery up. I had also purchased the 29 watt usb3 power adapter and the 6 ft cable so my iPad pro stays fully charged. I use the power adapter when doing video editing, which also takes a lot of power.

    Hi Pete, your usual excellent advice and nice fun delivery. Thanks.
    I'm a "1 year-old" in guitar learning terms and I got advice early on to record (audio +|- video) to chronicle my progress and to force me to take permonance details and timing into account. This is actually why I use GarageBand and how I found your excellent channel.
    Anyway, I started with an iRig2 for around 5 months. It was ok and easy to use, via the earphone plug on my iPad. But the recorded guitar sound was quite muddy, which is why I've tried to learn about mixing and such from your channel. It could be improved that way.
    I then bought the iRig HD2 for digital quality input. It is way better in my mind. Of course, I still add tone effects etc to my raw input, using ToneBridge, AmpliTube or GarageBand itself. But I feel that the quality of the raw digital signal is good enough for me.
    Check out my recordings on my "for fun and for the record" channel - th-cam.com/channels/4Xx5DNTkmRVwGObBapiP8w.html .
    I still have a lot to learn about playing, recording, mixing and especially mastering. But some of those you help me with a lot!!👍👏🎸😀 Thanks mate.

      Thank you! Sorry for the delay. I wanted to get a chance to sit down and listen to your music. I love R.E.M. which is probably not a surprise if you've hear my music, so loved hearing your covers. This is by far the best way to learn - by capturing your journey so you can look back and see the improvement. Keep at it my friend!!

      Hi Pete, thanks for taking the time to watch and listen. I'm honoured. If you can ever hear anything about the mixing that needs attention, please let me know as I am really clueless about what sounds right in mixing and mastering, especially around EQ.

    Is it just the IRig or are all these interfaces limited in that I wouldn’t be able to plug into the iPad/iPhone and play the audio out of their speakers or to a Bluetooth speaker it’s connected to? That would make a very sweet portable setup.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

    Let's say you want to record yourself playing guitar to a backing track. Can one of these interfaces work like this: Guitar to pedalboard to modeling amp (which can get a bluetooth signal from baking track on a pc) and modeling amp into one of the interfaces described in the video into your iPhone...so that the sound is perfectly synched and recorded along with the video? Would seem like a super easy way to upload video with high quality sound.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there. If you remove Bluetooth from the mix and have a mixer to connect your devices, then yes you can use this stereo audio as your camera audio.
      Bluetooth generates too much latency (lag, delay) to work when recording.

    Hi, thanks for the video! I'm thinking about getting an electric ukulele so I could start recording my songs on Garageband, however, I'm unsure if I could use the standard guitar instrument cables off of amazon to use to plug into a regular amp. Also, some of the links for the rig to lightening port don't work, I was wondering if you had any new products that you would suggest for being able to record directly from an electric ukulele to an iPad with both a lightening port and 3.5mm headphone jack with Garageband. So I would be plugging my guitar cable into the quarter-inch adapter then the 3.5 audio into my iPhone dongle/adapter, into the phone lightning plug. Or does that still maybe/sorta/probably not be that great either?
    Just wondering. And if I did plug-in like that, could I model sounds and record right there in garage band?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there. Yep, the lightning to 3.5mm adapter creates a standard TRRS jack that you can use to plug in to just like you would a regular headphone jack. The downside is that you can't then charge at the same time, and the audio quality is not as good as using a digital iRig like the HD series.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the kind words. So, unfortunately there is no way I adjust the type of tuning used on the smart guitars in GarageBand iOS. The best you can do is play them manually using the touch keyboard which allows you to reach that lower D. You will need to know the voicings of each chord however to play them with the keyboard which isn’t super easy.

      Hey there. No, unfortunately not. Once you connect and audio interface, this becomes the input and output. I wouldn’t recommend Bluetooth for recording anyway due to the latency (lag/delay) that you will experience.

    Hey there! Quick question: if I’m using one of those little cheap iRig clones that have an analog signal and plug-in to the headphone jack-can I just use a 3.5 mm to lightning adapter and just plug it into the lightning port to convert it into a better digital signal? Or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and pay a little more for a better interface unit altogether? Thx in advance! 🙏🏻

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there. You can indeed use the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter and it will create a TRRS socket for you to plug in an iRig, but the quality is still going to be the same as connecting directly to an iPhone/iPad with a headphone jack.
      For optimal quality, something like thy e iRig HD 2 or I/O is worth considering.

    Hey Pete, I couldn't find an answer to this question, so I thought i'd ask you, if i plug my guitar into my phone using an audio interface and go into tonebridge, do i have to use headphones, or can i just have it play directly out of my phone? Also, if my audio interface is plugged into my phone can i use airpods connected to my phone to listen to it?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there. So in most apps, once you plug in and audio interface, this becomes the input and output. So you would need to plug headphones in, or connect to externals speakers.

    • @ViaticalTree
      @ViaticalTree 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t imagine wanting to monitor your guitar playing through phone speakers. It would be incredibly unsatisfying. I tried monitoring with AirPods and the latency made it impossible unfortunately.

    And this might be a dumb question but wondering if I could also connect the headphone output of the iPad to the AUX in of the same amp? So it would be Guitar Amp Phone out > Audio interface > iPad > iPad headphone jack > Same guitar amp AUX in? The amp would serve as a monitor as well.
