Aha! I didn't know the Edge Lighting was the reason the notification pop-up is so small. I really like it, as you're right, it is more aesthetically pleasing -- but since I've had Edge Lighting turned on since the day I got my phone, I hadn't noticed or seen a larger notification pop-up.

Even though Ive been using my Edge Lighting ever since I got my GS8+ -- I enjoyed this video. I know not a lot of people know about it, and it's such a cool feature, everyone should know about it :-)
I do wish one could set up multiple custom colors for each app of choice (rather than default app colors, or custom colour for every app)... as I remember being able to do that with LED blink notifications on older models. Maybe it was through third party though?... I can't remember.
Either way. It's still a cool feature that I'm sure Samsung will improve over time.

Gmail app isn't showing edge lighting though it had been selected from the settings. Also the Samsung official music app from Galaxy apps has cool edge ambiant lighting while playing music & on lock screen.

I have a question. I'm not gonna buy a S8/Note 8 but just curious, does Edge Lighting work with Poweramp too? I mean when a song gets changed automatically via Poweramp does the feature work?
Is there an app or a way to make the colors change even more? Like rainbow or like strobe kinda effect with the edge lighting.

So theoretically you can turn the transparency all the way doen and it doesn't habe the edge light up anymore so you only get the nice looking notifications and not the big ones?

I love edge lighting but mine only works when my screen is on even though I have always selected. I've changing every setting but I cant get edge to work when the screen is off, on the lock screen, or the always on display.
Anyone else erratated by the fact that he is using a note 8 but not using the s pen?

I have updated the software and have the most recent updates.
Weird, so my edge lighting is way slower than yours... and mine doesn't look wavy like yours does. Is there a setting I'm missing for that? Using note 8 on Android 7.1.1 with AT&T. Is this just the camera making it look faster?
Can contacts be color coded on S8+ like the s6 edge plus does for texts edge screen?
I wish they had this feature when the phone is charging.. I feel like that would be cool.

Display and scroll down to edge lighting, click on advanced features by actually clicking on app color which is at the bottom

I just got the note 8 and it doesn't light up when the screen is locked. It's supposed to be on always but it doesn't work. And the follow up video didn't help much... help!!!
I tried as well the different ways showed and my light is not coming on
Hector Lomelin I got mine to work but the phone has to be facing down on a flat surface and set it to when screen is off. Also when given the option to change the color to blue or whatever you choose it automatically lights up green no matter which color you change it to. My phone has the latest update.

Yeah all them message alerts on seriously drained my battery when I switched most of them off battery life lasts longer.

This is all screwed up. I use Google messages app for text because it works with my android wear watch. Edge lighting does not work unless it set to "always" which give me the small notification popup that I do not like. But if I switch it to "When screen is off" mode I do not get edge lighting at all, but I get my preferred larger normal notification popup when the scree is on.
E-mail only works when set to always and the screen is on. If the screen is off no edge lighting.
It does work with in coming calls when face down, so at least that's seem to be working properly..
The Solutions video dosen't have a fix for me.

How do you hide the text message with edge lighting? If you have edge lighting it show your text message even if you have it to not show
Edge lighting just does it for you. it makes a small icon for text came through then lights instead of the huge banner. but also look into your notifcations settings on if you have pop up display or preview message on.
I have my setting as hide text message but with edge lighting it shows my text messages. Like the preview. Can't figure out a way to hide that
Funny this video comes out..i have it on with phone off the only time it lights up is for regular stock messaging app. Doesn't light up for any other app. Any tips Jimmy? I wanted it to work for huddle or any other apps

Why didn't work on my phone
My edge lighting only works for Facebook and only if the phone is awake even tho I have it set to always and all apps. Any suggestions?
Frank White select always and then go on you Facebook app settings and then scroll down to notifications and the go on enable even when on do not disturb mode 😊
Facebook is the only app that end notifications works on. I'm trying to get the others to work.

Massimo Vivona this is the Samsung Rugged case. It has a kickstand too. It's nice but not my favorite case.

Patrick R Dont, although a iPhone 7 is okay I recommend getting the s8 or not 8 or the s9. The note 8 is absolutely powerful and it's very quick plus the s pen is very good and you use it alot (at least for me) but the note 8 is kinda fragile and kinda breaks easily:(
I did everything in the video but it doesn't work when my screen is turned off
(I selected the always option)
pull notification bar down, hit search. search for "Keep Screen" and make sure that the keep screen off setting is not turned on with the GS8. Or on the Note 8 make sure Dark Screen isnt turned on.
Dark screen is turned off maybe it has something to do with settings - lockscreen and security -notifications

So those people saying that they cannot see Edge lighting when they receive a text message, you have to be using the official Samsung messaging app for it to work. I was using another application, and it wasn't working for me. However, when I changed to the official Samsung app it's worked when the screen was off also.

+Guillermo Pittaluga turn on the notifications for those. And maybe cause they don't push same type of notification. I turned my Facebook one on to see what happens. I know.music shows the light within app and not screen off

My edge lighting only works when it's face down, I have the s7 edge. I don't have any of those options. All I have is to turn it on or off. How can I fix this? I'd like to see the edge lighting all the time. I'm running nougat 7.0 sprint phone on AT&T network. If anyone can please help me that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Alicia McGilloway do you have the option where it says edge lighting? If so try clicking on always on cause maybe yours is only set for face down or something
jdawg313 when I hit edge lighting it only has an option for quick reply where you can tap the heart rate monitor for 2 seconds and it will send whatever I write as a reply and that's it, nothing else.
Yeah for s7 edge it only works that way.
Dabi Games thank you, I found that recently, I usually don't put my phone face down because I worry about my screen. But I noticed that one day and if the phone is ringing and I pick it up and go to turn it facedown it lights up but stops the second I flip it back over. It's actually pretty cool. Wish they had different colors for it. Thanks for the tip though
If you want the edge lighting notification while screen face up go to the app store there's a app there called edge lighting it's like 2 bucks but so far I like it its better than the standard one you can get email txt news everything in a edge lighting notification 😎
There is something called as "SPEN"! so throw away your stylus and use it man!
