I do R&D for a cut/sew shop in Wyoming, it's awesome to see textiles showcased in your episodes. As somebody that has made more than a few bedrolls, bivvies, and hammocks for camping it's nice to hear you found somebody that taught you a bit first. When I started I jumped in feet first and had more than my fair share of very expensive lessons. Back in those days you either found somebody locally that wanted to sell you their products and die with their secrets or read a book that might not even be relative to the area you are in.

Love the bed roll and the material. Only suggestion would be where the handle is. You should consider moving the handle so that when it is rolled up no wool edge is exposed to the elements it will help to keep the wool dry. It is all in the way you fold and roll it to have just the outside material always exposed to the elements.
Mine came today! I haven’t unpacked/unrolled it yet as my wife is going to put it under our tree for the holidays. I will say the initial look and feel is more than I hoped for! For those worried about the crinkle or noise of the sail fabric, fear not! It is soft and quiet!
Thrilled for the bedroll. What I lack in skills as a maker, I make up for in my love of all things bushcraft. This is right up my alley and will fit right in inside my Jeep kit.
I keep a few staple comfort items in my work truck in the event of a breakdown or some other situation that necessitates having to boondock in my vehicle. The whole kit fits neatly in a modified Gerry Can with a hinged top that stores flat in the bottom of my trucks toolbox. Always be prepared Folks! Zip~
Great product , just wonder if having longer straps would be handy in case you wanted to store extra bedding ,mattress etc in it .I have used swags (Yes i an Australian) for many years for extended periods at times and storage of mosquito nets etc in the swag makes for good modular sleeping systems .
I’m a design engineer and it’s always great to hear about the detail and effort that goes into bringing a product to market. Not many consumers realise the effort this really takes to get it right. Nice work!
Your wool supplier sounds like a very smart businessman. He understood that if you went ahead with your initial order, the product you made with his wool wouldn't have been a good product. If your bed rools don't turn out well, you won't be placing future orders from him. By educating you on how to best use wool in manufacturing products, he set you up for success and himself up for a repeat customer. Most companies don't consider the long-term effects of selling someone a product they believe will not work best for the customer. They only want the current sail. At most, they might be hoping they will have to come back for the right product.
I used to have a Pendleton wool bed roll, that I added one of my gabardien blankets from the barracks. Great combination of warmth and non-itch. I too kept mine in my car for 20+ years, (five of them being in the semi when I did over the road trucking). After a heavy blizzard here in ND, I helped the kids build a snow cave. Unbeknownst to me, my wife took my bed roll out of the minivan and let them use it for the floor covering. While the kids thoroughly enjoyed the snow cave, for nearly three months before the roof collapsed, it would be another three months before I noticed parts of my bed roll sticking out of the mud and slush. Needless to say, the entire thing was a complete loss. Even the leather straps were moldy. So, yes. When you have more available, I will be buying one... possibly two. 🤔
How the heck did I not know you produced products like these?! I hope the bedroll is a regular stocking item so I can get one early next year. Time to see what all you have available.
I really like bushcraft things. I might get this eventually. I am a huge fan of wool and I think everyone should have a wool blanket. Your bed roll is about as big as the wool blanket I have now. I think the price is good. It’s a shame it’s sold out rn.
Any plans to make a larger bedroll at some point? I'm not a giant, but with this being only 5'4" on its longest side, I (and a large portion of the audience) would hang off the edge unless sleeping diagonally. I'm also curious how noisy the sailcloth is -- it seems kind of loud & crinkly in the video, which isn't great if you (or others around you!) are trying to sleep.
New sailcloth that is soft is not really a thing, so with the bedrolls being made from recycled sailcloth every bedroll would be slightly different depending on how much use the sailcloth has actually had. When it's new, the sailcloth is generally crazy stiff and can be very loud.
I'd have to rig a little padding, but that black/cream EDC One would make a pretty killer camera bag. I don't see it squeezing into my budget any time soon, but it would be pretty cool for someone!
I bought this, and take it backpacking with me CONSTANTLY on trips in the Red River Gorge. Pair it with a oilskin tarp and a wool blanket, and I can stay in pretty much any weather, rain or shine. GREAT bedroll! I love it!
As a frequent user of bedrolls I think this is a great product but for one change. I always have an additional blanket and deflated camp pillow rolled up inside the bedroll. It appears I wouldn’t be able to do that with this product as the straps are fully extended already. If the straps were 15 - 20 cm longer it would allow for my use case which I believe is fairly common.
I might be weird but Space Cowboys is one of my favorite off the beaten path movies. My dad enjoys it too and my favorite line from the movie is the banter "You're a damn fine engineer but you don't know jack about politics." And the glorious flip to "You're a damn fine politician but you don't know jack about engineering." My Dad was mostly self taught or learned on the job as a civil engineer so that movie hits a special place in my heart. Also I could totally see Eastwood giving out a very modern but cowboy gift to the staff. We got a new truck recently and I wish I could add this to our stash. Keep up the amazing work!
Wool is the greatest fiber ever. It absorbs three times its weight in water, keeps you dry even so, is fire resistant, keeps you warm in winter--and makes the best socks for year-round comfortable feet. I may have to look into getting some of these bedrooms for my family.
The bedroll looks great, I'm in the market for one so I've been looking for good ones. Unfortunately as an actual giant it's just too small, otherwise I would totally have grabbed it. If there is a version 2.0 at some point longer would be great, maybe with extra insulation in between. And love the black, but something bright like orange would be useful as a high vis element if you use it at the side of the road to keep warm. I've got a klymit blanket, which is so cleverly designed with a foot box, hand pockets and connectors to make a collar that's bright orange that I use as a bedroll for just that purpose, but it's totally not waterproof and seeing this really reinforced why I've been looking for one and why it's so hard to get a perfect one. I may end up making one, but sewings my worst making skill by far.
Why in the world would you need a bed roll on the side of the road? Are you gonna make a bed in the median ffs? I don't think hi vis would help you there.
@@Imugi007 It's winter and over 50 degrees north, if you are on a remote road or a busy main route you can be waiting at the side of the road outside your car for a long time. Most people dress appropriately for the weather and what they are doing, sitting stationary outside isn't usually what you dress for and unless you add extra clothing you may well be injured by the cold even if you arent hit by a passing vehicle. If you are sitting by the road wrapped in bright orange sail cloth you will be visible, which is what you want, and wrapped in a blanket so you will be warm. Also if you go outdoors you should have a signal panel or something that could be one, especially if like me you prefer to normally blend in and generally use natural fabrics for it I.e. in winter I wear full ventile outerwear and between the naturally faded green and being noiseless during movement I'm not going to be spotted from the air even if I want to be. Part of the reason I carry the blanket I mentioned isn't just to stay warm at night before going to bed, it's to have something large and bright to signal with.
Really hoping more of these get made soon! I've been holding out on buying a bag for too long now praying for one of these black bags to come back in stock. Same with the bedroll! We need more! Thanks for showing us your process!
Great looking stuff! It's very nice that you don't constantly hawk your merch. Showing your new stuff, and the vids on the original bag and apron are legit and interesting. Thanks for not falling for the allure of spieling about the Bassomatic or other such junk.
I know you mentioned wanting to keep the price down and it was harder than you thought it would be, but I actually think it came in very reasonably priced for the quality of materials and craftsmanship. Well done.
They’re even manufactured in my home town! I will definitely be buying a bed roll when they’re available again. That’d be great for motorcycle touring. I hate sleeping in sleeping bags.
Great video, great product! I see the passion, the love and the enjoyment in all you do! Years ago, I bought a bedroll made of canvas and you had to provide a separate wool blanket. The idea was that you slept fully clothed and you'd stay warm throughout the night. To that, you added a low-temp sleeping bag and camping pad if you wanted, but in my opinion, by the time you got it all rolled up it was huge, heavy, and expensive! I finally sold it to a real cowboy friend of mine that rode cattle drives. I always wanted to be a cowboy, but that's another story. lol But, it had a unique feature I'd like to share with you...hint-hint. It had a flap that folded over and sewn to make a place for a pillow so that you could take a jacked, sweater, etc. stuff it in there and you now had a comfy pillow for the night. I'm guessing that you can take your bedroll, lay it out and fold it over yourself like a taco, right? If you took it a step further, added a little more fabric, for a few bucks more, you could probably do that too. Anyway, I love your bedroll because it seems the perfect weight and size for travel and not the size of a circus tent as mine was. BTW, I live in Ventura. You need to make a backpack or duffel but a cool one. With any TH-camr (chase reeves, bo ismono, nomad nation, traveling salseros, rush faster) focused on bags I would gladly buy one coming from you but not the trendy ones you have on your website. We are nerds! We want organization for our stuff in a backpack or tote. And you as our leader should give us one!
Completely agree about finding black things in black holes! I have a box full of different colors of electrical tape that gets applied, liberally, to anything not colorful enough. Have also given up buying black beanies and gloves - come winter, when you go looking for them, they just vanish in drawers or behind furniture!
Bedroll 2.0- handle and straps relocated to the middle. Allows it to be folded in a manner that exterior edges are folded it and thus sealed as much as possible from the elements when tied to a rucksack. My .02 for bedroll 2.0
Bought one thank you Adam Savage from Sydney Australia. This will live in my hilux ute for decades to come (Edit) perfect way to support a youtuber without having a subscription or patreon. Give and get love that philosophy
I just stumbled back across this video and realized I need to revise my comment. I was able to order one of the V2 bedrolls the day they released and it came in a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love it. It is soft and warm on the inside but holy wow I was not prepared for how noisy that sail cloth is. All in all, just a positively fantastic product, extremely well thought out and very well made. I may be purchasing another in the future. They are just that nice.
Over the last couple years I’ve been working on my own bedroll .. no details , but the pre-wash is something I’ve often thought of , though haven’t tested yet .. it’s still in testing mode , so far it fits my purpose very well .
I'm working on getting a bike for bikepacking. This would be PERFECT for my setup! I already use the original bag to carry my bike tools in my truck in case I need to do repairs while I'm out at a trail system. It's the best bag I've ever used.
I didn't know you had a store. I was considering making an apron for work because nothing they provide is what I want. Of course, your apron is exactly what I was looking to make. Gonna have to order one now. Hopefully the bedrolls go back in stock soon.
8 months later, they released their 3rd batch (as far as I can tell). They listened and increased the size to 80”x67” and the price went up to $170. I immediately ordered before they went out of stock again.
Ok just a bit of feedback. I went over to the website to look into the bedroll to see if this is in my price range. Currently, they are sold out which is understandable. I assume due to this there are no prices listed for the bedroll and no way I could easily see to figure it out. Are they $100, are they $1,000, no idea. I always hate it when websites make it difficult to find out the price of an item. At this point, I'm not going to take the step to sign up to be notified when they are back in stock as I do not know if this is something I can afford. I realize that you may want to reserve the option to change the price when these come back in stock due to shifting wool prices or what have you but my first gut reaction when I can not find the price of something is to feel like I am getting scammed and I really don't think that is the case here. Thank you for continuing to put out fun content and items this is just one of my pet peeves.
@Adam Savage ... that bedroll needs an ir sheet between the outside and inside ... also some memory foam or self inflating foam to give it a bit of cushion ... then it is good for people who want to go camping ... in colder climates ... as it stands good for summer or being placed on top of some other kit ... self contained would be much more saleable ... and more widely used
Wish there was a bag that had a water bottle holder on the outside. I'm currently on my 8th year with my backpack and I love that my waterbottles can fit in the side pouches. Please make this Adam and Mafia!
It must be awesome to be able to market so directly to your customers without involving marketing agencies. We all watch your channel, anyway, and are even happy to enjoy your self-advertisements. You might even be getting TH-cam to pay you to advertise your own products. Brilliant.
Looks super awesome. I have one concern though, the straps. If the straps and buckles are not removable they scrape and ware when you sit on the the bedroll. Also they'll be quite uncomfortable to lay or sit on.
We have a new drinking game - Every time Adam mentions that he worked at ILM, you take a shot. Also can be played with Mark Rober name dropping his previous NASA job.
I work out of a 5 gallon buckets with one of those inside/outside tool pouches. I have that exact same problem- where did the part / tool go? I don't know how much market there would be for it, but there's a hint. Space Cowboys is one of my favorite movies. I DO find the effects somewhat overpowered by the preformances of Mssrs. Eastwood, Garner, Sutherland and Jones, but it does take all four of them to do it. 😉
I missed out on the first run and managed to get in on the second release. It's weird, I've been wanting someone to make something exactly like this and I've seen several things that were close enough but they're usually $500+ lol I could not imagine actually making it myself, that must have been difficult. Anyway I can't wait to get it and test it out.
If you ever do sell a black toolbag, use a light colored liner like a hunting pack. Maybe not safety orange or yellow, since tool handles can be those colors. But maybe a bright plaid or checker pattern.
A comment below said $135.. and he was suspicious of the quality since straight wool blankets cost more than that and don't have sailcloth waterproof backing..
@@bmbullman what the hell kind of wool blanket costs that much?! $50 is the average for wool blankets. Anything more then that better be some ridiculously soft wool.
I had the same problem with my black camping backpack. I solved it by stuffing everything into a white trash bag first. Light and helps to keep everything dry.
That brings to mind the recently released Vespa Primavera "Pic Nic" special edition - which is basically a standard Vespa, plus a bedroll-type rolled up picnic blanket, a rear basket and some additional /upgraded trim pieces - at a hefty price premium (and with a rather oddly kitschy name thrown in). Your bedroll would appear to be substantially higher quality than the one Vespa includes, and a great way to achieve the same functionality without paying for the special edition. Just one more addition to your list of potential uses for this item... Thank you!
Adam this is awesome!! I´m searching for a good picnic blanket, difficult to find. BUT I must say I see some downsides with yours. - it´s very heavy. --> is there a way to produce a lighter one with smaller packing size? Maybe with an alternative to wool, which weigh a lot I guess! 2kg is just too much if you´re not about to use the car. - dark color heats up a LOT in the sun. Store your drink/food there and it gets warm super fast. ---> brighter version would be appreciated (even if yours look super cool) - pricepoint may also go down when not using actual wool but an alternative Most picnic blankets have the issue that the sewed on handles tear off after a few washes. And also the plastic fabric on the underside seems to loose its waterproofness after just a few washes. So it would be really good having a PROPER picnic blanket! :)
Wish the straps had a little extra length. People roll all kinds of things in their bedrolls- pads, extra blankets, etc. If you add length to the straps you allow for extra girth.

Part of the reason I carry the blanket I mentioned isn't just to stay warm at night before going to bed, it's to have something large and bright to signal with.
the trick is to lay diagonally and then wrap yourself
Really hoping more of these get made soon! I've been holding out on buying a bag for too long now praying for one of these black bags to come back in stock. Same with the bedroll! We need more! Thanks for showing us your process!
Great looking stuff! It's very nice that you don't constantly hawk your merch. Showing your new stuff, and the vids on the original bag and apron are legit and interesting. Thanks for not falling for the allure of spieling about the Bassomatic or other such junk.
Thank you Adam. You were and still are my hero. Never stop man, much love from Sweden.
I always wanted to be a cowboy, but that's another story. lol
But, it had a unique feature I'd like to share with you...hint-hint.

Wow - I was curious to see how much the bedroll costs, but I can't... Because they are sold out, so there is no price listed!
I loved space cowboys, watch it every time it pops up!!!
Awesome bedroll. Id like to see 72" for us bigger fold. But more useful, an overlapping slit in the middle so it can be a poncho also.
Man those bed rolls are awesome!! Definitely going on my wishlist haha
yeah I don't need a bedroll nor did I know what a bedroll was but for some reason I need that bedroll lol
Honestly a better value than I expected. 135 isn’t horrific.
They immediately sold out. Could someone tell me what the price on them was?
@@jannikf2504 135 buckaroonies
@@Iammightymeaty I was wondering how much. That's not too bad at all for what you're getting both in function and aesthetic. Thanks!!
They run off to join those single socks somewhere we’ll never find them….😂
Bedroll 2.0- handle and straps relocated to the middle. Allows it to be folded in a manner that exterior edges are folded it and thus sealed as much as possible from the elements when tied to a rucksack. My .02 for bedroll 2.0
Honestly the way you were talking about the price I expected them to be way more. That’s not that bad honestly.
Bought one thank you Adam Savage from Sydney Australia.
This will live in my hilux ute for decades to come
(Edit) perfect way to support a youtuber without having a subscription or patreon.
Give and get love that philosophy
How much is shipping to Australia? These look real nice but sometimes they destroy you on shipping fees.
The ones made in Australia are better.
Fine I'll say it, space cowboys was an amazing movie, from the acting to the practical effects it was a classic.
As soon as those come back in stock, I’m gonna get me one
I just stumbled back across this video and realized I need to revise my comment. I was able to order one of the V2 bedrolls the day they released and it came in a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love it. It is soft and warm on the inside but holy wow I was not prepared for how noisy that sail cloth is. All in all, just a positively fantastic product, extremely well thought out and very well made. I may be purchasing another in the future. They are just that nice.
Adam Savage, making all our lives better, again. Thank you.
I’m starting a petition for Adam to be the third Green brother
1:00 I completely agree with you... I don't get the obsession with having everything black because it's so hard to find things that way.
I wish I knew what I'd do with a bedroll. Thank you for making and selling quality durable goods, it's refreshing in a world of imported crap.
for us in northern states it a good addition to your winter driving survival kit
Seen in a couple comments it’s about $135 or so.
Wow, that sold out quickly. How much were they going for?
There back in stock!!!!…. 🥰
Brilliant.
Thank you for saying '...couple of...'. It makes me smile.
Looks super awesome. I have one concern though, the straps. If the straps and buckles are not removable they scrape and ware when you sit on the the bedroll. Also they'll be quite uncomfortable to lay or sit on.
The bedroll would make a great shooting mat. Nice and large to keep you and your gear dry.
man, I love seeing people like you making high quality products,
keep it up!
We have a new drinking game - Every time Adam mentions that he worked at ILM, you take a shot. Also can be played with Mark Rober name dropping his previous NASA job.
Calm down Satan.
Having worked at ILM, it is hard not to name drop from time to time.
Like the bag. If it's made in U.S.A I'll buy
They’re proud and they should be.
Nice, so he is my ex-colleague.
Excellent bags. I love the pen holders, which are sadly missing in most bags.
Daaamn not even 48 hours and the bedrolls are GONE. Congrats on the successful launch Adam!
Adam! Dude you should totally make soft panniers for motorcycles, especially dual sport, adventure, retros, and cruisers!
ngl wool is such a fantastic material, it's so comfortable and nice
i like it when adam is happy
When are more bedrolls coming out?
Unfortunately I didn't realize how much I actually wanted one of these until they were sold out. Here's hoping you do a second run
Ill be picking one up, thanks for the effort you put into designing these adam.
I missed out on the first run and managed to get in on the second release. It's weird, I've been wanting someone to make something exactly like this and I've seen several things that were close enough but they're usually $500+
lol I could not imagine actually making it myself, that must have been difficult. Anyway I can't wait to get it and test it out.
Looks cool…. A longer strap to allow for another blanket to be rolled in?
Agree this would be very handy.
If you ever do sell a black toolbag, use a light colored liner like a hunting pack. Maybe not safety orange or yellow, since tool handles can be those colors. But maybe a bright plaid or checker pattern.
That sailcloth would make an interesting material for dopp kits, provided they came in other colors as well as black.
So sad I missed the first batch hopefully more out before spring 🤞 would be perfect on the back of my motorcycle as part of my motocamping setup
I'll definitely be adding one to my motorcycle travel gear
Will there be bedroll patterns for sale? Would be amazing!
I had no idea you made merch like this, but I also just sat and intentionally watched an ad so that's a neat new experience
How much does it cost? I hate when out of stock items don’t show the price!
Thank you!
Do you plan on releasing the bedroll in giant size? I'm the shortest in my group by a head, and I'm 171cm (5,7in)...
Good luck
Adam that is one of the coolest looking bedrolls I have seen!!! Have you ever considered making a golf bag with your bag company?
Adam this is awesome!! I´m searching for a good picnic blanket, difficult to find. BUT I must say I see some downsides with yours.
- it´s very heavy. --> is there a way to produce a lighter one with smaller packing size? Maybe with an alternative to wool, which weigh a lot I guess! 2kg is just too much if you´re not about to use the car.
- dark color heats up a LOT in the sun. Store your drink/food there and it gets warm super fast. ---> brighter version would be appreciated (even if yours look super cool)
- pricepoint may also go down when not using actual wool but an alternative
Most picnic blankets have the issue that the sewed on handles tear off after a few washes. And also the plastic fabric on the underside seems to loose its waterproofness after just a few washes. So it would be really good having a PROPER picnic blanket! :)
Love the bed roll and the tool bag is pretty sweet
Sold out already and I can't see how much it was. Does anyone know how much the bedroll costed? It would be perfect I think for EAA.
$135.00 dollars
Darn it 13 hrs old and all ready sold out. I really like the bed roll. Please make more I would love to try it out.
Wish the straps had a little extra length. People roll all kinds of things in their bedrolls- pads, extra blankets, etc. If you add length to the straps you allow for extra girth.
