      Fun facts- if you mean the web, then that was developed by Tim Berners-Lee, an Englishman, working at CERN (you know, the kids who also built the Large Hadron Collider) in Switzerland. And if you're using Wifi- John O'Sullivan (Australian). All the Americans developed was TCP/IP, how to monetize it and how to flood it with outrage and substitute opinion for fact. So enjoy that week tasteless beer in your rusting unreliable pickup, and keep smoking that firecracker- you'll get to the end soon enough! ;-)

      Additionally, you must have a woodworking machinery because if you just have a hammer and basic handsaw and a drill for home use. Nobody build a guitar from a simple board with home tools. Just the guitar hardware and electronics is about US$200, also finish and glue. The fingerboard is at least US$30 cheapest in eBay from Chinese manufacture. That is bull manure for saying US$30. I would pay him 30 bucks for that guitar and I believe this guy would sell me for that. Just Bull Manure

      Exactly. If you have all the tools and expertise to build a guitar plus you have wood for free or cheap then you can do it for 30. Still the pickups bridge and strings were not there which were later bought.

      Most of his tools he used are pretty basic for most men that enjoy things like playing guitar. Besides a planer, which I do have but you really don't need for this. I feel like a router is borderline considered a basic tool but if not harbor freight sells them for $30 & works fine

    I've heard of folks looking all over for good wood to build guitars out of. I am about to post probably the most awesome source that I found, a thrift shop like the salvation army, I can buy an entire head board and foot board for 6 bucks. The posts can be used for necks and the actual head and foot boards can be used as a body, the only issue I have found is these are usually 3/4 inch thick so they have to be glued on top of one another which gets you to 1 1/2 inch thickness so it will need a cap of 1/4 inch thick for most guitars like a strat, tele, music man, jackson, ibanez etc. 1 3/4 is pretty standard for most a lot of guitars out there, however if making a hard tail version you can get away with just the 1 1/2 inch thickness.
    You can grab a chair or two as well and use the seat. While it is hard to tell what type of wood it is you can at least somewhat test for hardness by pressing your fingernail into an area of the wood, if it dents it is soft if not it is hard, the two I got was maple and birch. Right now I am working on my second body and its not that hard just tedious. The first build was a Squire bullet strat body to replace the plywood one, it sounds better than my USA made strat (squire necks are made really well) which may be due to having fender single coils rather than stock squire ones.
    The best tools to have when doing this type of work are:
    Rubber mallet (I use this to drive a carving chisel lightly in tight areas.)Belt sander and yes the cheap one worksrouter
    sharp chiselsforstner bitsfiles and rasps
    straight edgea tool for fine measurements (I use a digital caliper)long and short drill bits
    This is the tools I used which I already had. It can be done without automated tools it just takes longer.

  • @MarkWilliams-in9xi
    @MarkWilliams-in9xi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Really nice video Dan. I've built similar bodies using what I call the "Clamshell" technique, which is using two pieces of wood for the top and back with no middle piece. I just route out the insides and glue them together and cut the the shape on a band saw. Works well for me.

    I’m building a guitar body out of a free piece of ash from a tree cutting service that was a scrap from a table top they had planked from a tree they cut down. I’ve been lucky enough to have friends and family that have the tools I don’t have. I’ve spent about $100 for sandpaper and bits I needed.

    Try the WIlkinson roller bridge next time you're in the market for a cheap roller bridge. They're rock solid, and only cost about 20 bucks. A big plus to them is that you can adjust the radius by cutting little shims out of an aluminum can and placing them under the saddles. They've been my go to roller bridge for years now.

    Looks great but you should run the strings UNDER the front bar of the bigsby so it angles up to the bridge. Itll probably take care of any bridge issues you had.

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I thought that angle would be a little too aggressive. After I strung it this way I cut the strings too short to go under the roller bar or else I would’ve tried that. I just didn’t want to open another pack of strings lol

    • @woofystevenson2943
      @woofystevenson2943 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      James Crider the aggressive break angle just makes more tension on the strings, it lets you get away with using ridiculously heavy strings if you don't put the strings uunder the bar

    • @bahusofriends5467
      @bahusofriends5467 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GunsandGuitars you want just that! the "agressive angle" will cure any issues you'd might run into with that trem/bridge combination! i am a pensioner by now but yoused to build and repair guitars and stringed instruments for a livin' . trust my words. change the way you stringed the guitar and you will notice a sometimes quite drastic change of the sound the instrument has. this is a direct consequence to the increase of pressure the string uses on the saddle. in principle: the more pressure, the better.
      apart from this, your build looks nice and beautyful and it sounds ok to me.
      it is not possible to jugde something you can not hear.......i would love to hear this instrument in a live situation and play it as well cause that would be the only way to really say/find out how an instrument sounds. youtube is bad soundwise and does not help much in finding out how an instrument sounds.
      the surface finish you did looks quite nice as well!
      have you ever tried out shellack? this i would recommend to you.
      almos all violins have been treated that way for centuries....
      keep on keeping on, dear fellow! you do have a lot of talent!

    @malodesi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey, i did that thing routing one pickup to another output myself one time. It's probably the only way to use a saggy vintage fuzz and a tighter overdrive in parallel, because the second pickup is not affected by the low input impedance of the fuzz (-face, for exaple)! This opens up a whole new world of sounds, really fun to play with! ;)

Adding some salt on top of the glue before you join the pieces together will basically eliminate that slide. You're welcome and great build regardless. He didn't break the two pieces apart because they were never glued together. If you watch as he does the glue up, he doesn't apply glue to the very middle two slabs where they meet. This is a common woodworking technique that saves on time and clamp usage. Also the chisels are to square the edges, the router will leave a rounded edge in the corners that the neck wouldn't be able to fit in properly.

    I was going to say that there are two types of Acacia in Australia, ( I am Australian), but in looking it up in my text book called, "Wood in Australia, types, properties, and uses." by Keith R Bootle; it lists some 30 species. It's an expensive little book. The two main species are Black Wattle, ( Acacia mearnsii, Acacia decurrens, Acacia mollis, and Acacia mollissima) Blackwood, ( Acacia melanoxylon), and a whole bunch of Wattle species that are also Acacia. Blackwood comes in two main types, the best for guitar building is very, very close in appearance to Koa. It is not cheap. this one is darker than the other species of blackwood.

    Regarding your Danno Sound Mod, Parker Guitars does a similar thing with a stereo jack (AKA TRS jack). The main difference is that Parker has the magnetic pickups on one channel and the piezo on the other. If you plug in a mono plug, both magnetics and piezo are on the one channel.

    I have a friend named Sean Dollar and he spells his name $ean. I had watched an old spinal tap vid where they had the double neck bass shaped like a dollar sign. This vid has inspired me to go either pick up a clapped out p-bass and a clapped out jazz bass and make a double neck dollar designed bass or pick up a couple of kit bases and put my retired fathers wood working skills to use creating my own version of that bass. Thank you for the inspiration

    I purchased an SG Kit Guitar from an e-Bay kit guitar seller.
    The neck pocket is a bit loose though, so I am going to have to tighten it up with some thin wood veneer so the neck fits tightly, & the pickups are horrible.
    I purchased a "Desert Eagle" set of Dominger Pickups to put in it.
    I custom wire most of my guitars and set them all up myself, so figured I would try my hand at building one of these kits.
    I recently came up with my own body & headstock design for a 7-String guitar I'd like to build from scratch using some kind of Native Aussie Timber, maybe some kind of Gum Tree? I could try Eucalyptus, the trees that our Native Koalas reside in & eat the leaves of?
    I want to start doing guitar setups, adjustment, repairs & custom modifications once I move house to a more suitable place so I can have a proper workspace.
    I am so glad to have been pointed in the direction of your channel by GuitarMAX, as I am sure I will be able to find plenty of tips & techniques to apply to my builds.
    The fretwork is the one thing I am dreading the most. But I need to learn it, as I have a few guitars that need some fretwork.
    A 1990 Yamaha RGX 1212S Shred Machine with slightly worn frets needs a fret levelling, recrowning, and polishing. And I want to get a Seymour Dyncan Nazgul Bridge Humbucker to install in her too (I love Black Metal the most, but my Chaos musical style is Thrashing Grinding Blackened Death with some Blues, Power-Groove, & Jazz thrown in for good measure, & a lot of Pristine Clean Classical also).
    I have an Active EMG 81 or 85 & 60 set to put in my Dean Razorback.
    The pups I pull out of it are going into a cheap $200 SG knockoff that needs its frets completely replaced from brand new. 😤
    I'd like to try a Seymour Duncan Black Winter set in something or other some day. Maybe my Jackson JS32 Uneven V?
    Or should I put the EMG's in the Jackson & the Black Winters in the Dean? 🤔
    Thanks for this video.
    It was really 😎.
    & funny, too. 😅

    As someone with Asperger's Syndrome it's nice to see you supporting a good cause.
    As a DIY guitar builder; that body is pretty damn sweet looking, although I'm slightly disappointed it only had the Dan-O-Sound. I thought it was an on-board overdrive unit which would have been a first. Don't get me wrong, the Dan-O-Sound is pretty cool (even sounds Australian. Pretty sure everyone over there has an O on the end of their name; Dan-O, Steve-O, ect.)
    As a metal guitar player: I would never own that lol

      @@saulgoodeguitars you ever try your luck at making a decent acoustic? I'm a bit of a xylophile so I've got an insanely strong and irregular passion for woods, and building things from wood. Especially exotic or rare woods and even moreso with Acoustic guitars since I play acoustic myself. I want to teach myself to huild acoustics honestly but it seems so hard to learn without an expert luthier teaching me themselves honestly. I don't say that about much of anything either since I've basically taught myself everything I've wanted to learn since I became an adult.
