There is a mistake there. The French dub was pulled off the air not because of Brockenman, but his son, Brocken Jr. Brockenman was fine because he was evil, but junior was a good guy... so the French government sent a cease and desist to the French dub. Funny enough, the main theme of the dub is on Spotify.

Finally an anime iceberg that no one talk about! I'm currently making and investigating Shimajiro iceberg. It was a kids show but has dark origins. Not just focused only anime but the corporate behind the anime industry as well.

Although 4kids heavily censored ultimate muscle, it actually pushed the limits on what’s appropriate on 4kids.

Actually the both the Catalan and Valencian intros are based on the French dub due to script translations, use of master tapes sent by AB Groupe, and utilizing the same instrumental track.

I have a couple weird facts that could fit on this iceberg:
-Almost every reference you'll find to the iconic Kinniku Buster or the Kinniku Driver is in lewd context. I mean... I don't blame them. Unlike a Kamehameha beam or a punch rush it's literally a move that forces a spread eagle and the Driver has them looking directly at the receiver's crotch.
-Kinnikuman has an oddly decent amount of movies, almost as many as Dragon Ball. But the weird part to me is that a few of them have fight scenes that actually don't take place in wrestling rings or even are wrestling matches.
-Like most popular anime or manga there is a *CONCERNING* amount of doujinshi around this series (lots of which focuses on the ship of Warsman and Kevin Mask which is awful... the ship not the doujinshi I don't read that s**t)
-You mentioned the Muscle Shot mobile game and it's exquisite character art but I discovered that they just... don't have any art of very specific characters. Not just characters from the final anime arcs or from the movies either. The best example I can give is Meltdown from the Demon Seed arc. They have art of every other member of the Demon Seed *except* him for some reason and I honestly don't know why.

-More of a recent thing but I just discovered this odd little fan comic of Justiceman wrecking Muzan from Demon Slayer. It's really funny actually!

-Female Chojin. Chojin have primarily been male throughout the entirety of the Kinnikuman series, but there have been so few female representations for Chojin and even fewer one who are actually fighters.
-Pentagon is from Florida. Pentagon's homeland is only stated as "U.S.A., Earth", which is extremely vague for where he probably lives. However I can theorize what specific state he's from by a simple fact: Pentagon's cousin Black Hole is from a separate related clan that lives in the Bermuda Triangle. He probably lives somewhere close to that area and the only place in Anerica that's connected to the Bermuda Triangle is the state of Florida.
Shipping Warsman and Kevin Mask makes perfect sense though. One is the loyal adopted son, and the other is the rebellious actual son of Robin Mask. And by perfect sense, I mean perfect sense by fujoshi standards, not by real life romance standards.

Also worth mentioning that just like Puripuri man there are also missing legendary moves of the kinniku dynasty.. the moves we know are the Muscle Inferno, Muscle Revenger and Muscle spark be if I am not mistaken, the first time they revealed the plaque the moves shown were all completely different

I remember when the only clips available online were of the Catalan dub. Even managed to snag a couple MP3s of the opening including a cover version, the Gyudon Ondo, and even the most interesting, the Catalan version of Me Gumino Hito that Kinnikuman randomly "sings" just before his match with Warsman. Yeah...the...uh... one where he impersonates the band Rats & Star's tendency to... uh... perform in blackface. I know it's a dialect or some variation of Spanish, I was able to catch just enough of it to discover they lyrics are completely different from the Japanese version. And not in the loose translation for the sake of fitting the same music, I mean a total overhaul of what the song was about. Sounds like they even rerecorded the entire song because they couldn't get a clean, lyricless version. So I'm wondering if Catalan Kinnikuman is a gag dub, if at least partially.

@@gunnariron797 Sounds like it's more of a humor equivalency dub. Something that has more localized humor in tone with the humor of the original. Kinnikuman is a silly show when it wants to be, even when the tone of the series got much darker, there was still a lot of goofy things happening in the background. I'd imagine there's not too much they'd have to add.
Because Kimmikuman was only broadcasted and dubbed in Catalonia, while DB was broadcasted on all Spain and dubbed in multiple languages (Castillian, Catalan, Galician..etc)
Honestly, there needs to be a part 2 as well.

As a very young kid I remember playing a wrestling game on a bootleg NES cartridge, it basically was loaded with a bunch of roms so that you had many games on the same cart. It turned out the wrestling game was Kinnikuman (Tag Team Match: M.U.S.C.L.E.).
Eventually I watched Ultimate Muscle on TV and somehow recognized the older characters from that game.
Just two little corrections from the creator of the iceberg:
* The Catalan dub actually consists of the entire original series, not just 56 episodes.
* The original Akuma Shogun design is from the original printing of Akuma Shogun's first appearance, where he is shown as Vikingman. This was changed for the tankoban release.
* I put the Hercules Factory Explosion there as a joke, since it shares the name with the Chojin school in Nisei.
Never thought a video like this would ever exist, but it's refreshing nonetheless.
Really hope people find out about this series and that your video gets discovered too, hopefully as an interesting introduction. It's one of the most unique series I've ever come across with an equally unique history behind it as well.
(I mean seriously, being the inspiration for Dragon Ball, One Piece, JoJo, and how probably EVERY BATTLE ANIME is should make it intriguing enough but I guess not)
To be honest it's better then my only contribution to getting Kinnikuman known, which is... Coming up with a Death Battle matchup between him and Juan Aguacate, the Luchador from the Guacamelee Indie Game.

I got into the kinnikuman stuff since I was very young, so growing up throughout my teen years and seeing new fan translations coming out was really awesome to me! I had no idea of the 2011 reboot series for a long time til 2017. It's a shame now that Nisei is classified not canon anymore, I been waiting so long to fully read through the series due to the chapters not appearing online sometimes.

I never stop watching your video of Kinnikuman iceberg. It's awesome and interesting. Remember when I ask you a question of what your favorite longest fight of Kinnikuman. And I forgot to tell you what me favorite longest, my favorite longest fight was Kinnikuman vs Warsman. The fight was very brutal, Warsman keep hitting Suguru head with his elbow. And Kinnikuman vs Buffaloman.
Kinda heartbreaking to discover that Nisei is now non-canon. Like many, that was my introduction to Kinikuman and lead me to falling in love with the rest of this wacky, wild, amazing series. Man, does this series take you down some rabbit holes if you let it.
Longtime Kinnikuman fan since the 2000's, thoroughly enjoyed this iceberg, and i have a few pieces of info i wanna share:
- According to Doblaje Wiki and other sources, the reason Kinnikuman never made it past episode 52 in its Chilean/latinamerican spanish dub, was because the raw tapes were stolen, and thus the team at Technoworks was unable to continue.
- Reuploads of said dub have the second half of episode 33 missing since its last broadcast in 2004, and was thus replaced with the raw japanese audio. Most people have forgotten that segment was dubbed to the point of being considered lost media...up until this upcoming Wednesday. The 80's anime is getting a rerun in ETCtv, Chile's premiere anime network, and the channel that first broadcasted the show, in honor of its 23th anniversary since its premiere.
(UPDATE 04/23/23: The episode has been recorded and fully restored as of this time, so that's one piece of Lost Media found)
- Brockenman was shown in said Chilean dub, but all scenes that referred to him were replaced by the raw audio. Brocken Jr. suffered a similar fate. Even though he was given a VA (Alexis Quiroz, who voiced Robbie Rotten in LazyTown and Knuckles in Sonic X) some of its scenes are lost or replaced with raw audio as well
- Actually, the Catalan dub DID get all the way to episode 137, to the very end of the Sword of Justice arc. Sites like animenewsnetwork(dot)com credit VAs that did characters all the way to the Dream Choujin Tag Arc. If you look up the words "Musculman Catalan descargar" you'll find a couple sites with links of every episode from said dub.

Incredible video. I appreciate all the research and how far you went to even collect some of the rare items. I’m only a casual to moderate fan of the series , but I always like these deep dives. The show always stuck in my head since I was a kid.

Great video, as a JoJo's fan it surprised me to found out that Kinnikuman may have influenced Araki with the road roller. This video really made me interested in trying the series, I hope you make more videos on the topic and you get a sub for me!

Back when I was in college there was a channel that had pretty much the entirety of the Knnikuman Catalan dub on youtube. And in that one they were calling him "Muscalator".
I distinctly remember that was how I first experienced the Dream Tag arc and they had the Psycho and Heinous Choujin arcs too.
Great info. Two more tidbits to add. Some music from Kinikkuman was partially reused for the Ultraman USA anime pilot film. It would have been a full series but it had no toy tie-in when that was mandatory. That said, it's a good film and the music is outstanding. And in stereo unlike Kinikkuman. Fans of the Kinikkuman music would have no trouble recognizing familiar melodies. The second tidbit is about the plan to dub the anime for the US around the time Mattel brought over the figures. They had a licensing deal and a dub company setup and it was a done deal until they sat down to look at the source material and figure out the script edits. Nobody involved had actually SEEN the show. They just wanted it as an obvious toy tie-up. Once they saw all the material they could never show on US TV, the whole project was immediately shelved.
Casual enjoyer of Kinnikuman here, I’m excited that there’s a new series coming to Netflix soon. Great video, especially the bits covering lost/missing media. It would have been funny if those Robin Mask commercials also had Kevin Mask too.
I get the feeling the only reason why they haven't made a Kinnikuman Reboot/sequel series, outside the weird live action series, is because Kinnikuman doesn't have the huge following outside its own country to justify one. Think about it. What series did they make reboots and sequels out of? Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and even Saint Seyia. All have a big international presence, maybe to a lesser extent Seyia which only was big in Europe and Latin America. It's a shame, but it would be the perfect way to introduce the characters to a broader market, as most mainstream anime fans refuse to give anything made before the digital animation age the time of day.

What about the fact that the tagteam arc was also basically full of fan submitted tag team pairings.. the ashuraman and sunshine team was not originally part of the arc and was only added in after having won a contest a week prior to the start of the tournaments

My personal dream is that, once Oda wraps up One Piece in another 10 years or so, he gets given endorsement by Yudetamago to reboot the series. I'd kill to get a re-done, more narratively tight and better drawn version of the original major arcs.

What does the Hercules Factory explosion have to with Kinnikuman?
The “Hercules factory” is where the new chojin are trained in kinnikuman nisei, I assume the creator of the ice berg added it as just an off the wall, wacky addition, every ice berg has the completely unrelated/lie/goofy entry

Ty so much I’m slowly working my way through the manga more people need to be put on to this series it doesn’t get talked about basically at all
I'm big into the Muscle fight, i've been trying to find a bunch of extra characters that aren't a part of the original page
-Watchman and Mantaro where made by the same guy, they got released on a early states of development, that's why Mantaro doesn't have some of his more iconic moves, like the Muscle millenium for example
-characters from other manga/anime like Tsurugi momotaro from Sakigake Otokojuku and Stroheim from Jojo's bizarre adventure where released are also lost, i found someone making a Mugen Port of stroheim but it wasn't finished/released, the Page showing pictures of this stroheim is unviable as of now
-Street fighter like versions of Shunshine and Broken Jr are also lost, they would play like Sagat and M. Bison
There are also a bunch of characters that where never released, for example bibimbap, kinkotsuman, and an updated version of Benkiman
Some of these are known to be on private collections and can be seen on video, these could be released in the future, since characters like Omegaman where originally locked by private collectors
The Wrestling games for GameCube were my first introduction to this series.
I pursued it purely because I wanted to learn more about Dik Dik Van Dik.
First of all what an amazing video, Congrats! I want to say i was super lucky to be borned in Catalonia as i was able to see the whole anime in catalan until the end of Tag tournament. I have all the chapters dubbed in catalan on several usb and drive disks (Dont want to lose them hahaha), there was also a Catalan Manga publisher that release the manga volumes till the ending of Kinniku Throne Arc, nowadays they are really expensive. Also I have been playing Kinnikuman Muscle Shot on my phone almost since day 1, its a fun game to play. I've got the Sunshine with the removable hole figure, it was a present from a friend when I was in Japan in 2009, have no idea was so rare!.

I'm a Vietnamese, we also got an official translation for Kinnikuman in Vietnam back in the day, title: "Lực sĩ Kinniku".
It's my gateway into the series.
Despite the name of the group that uploaded the Latin American dub,. Kinnikuman was never broadcast in Mexico.
This was because, before the earthquake of 1985, Televisa had the habit of “intercepting“ shows from the US and Japan, very rarely from Europe, and make their own dubbings. These dubbings in turn, would become one of Televisa’s main businesses as they would become the owners and distributors of such dubbings for the rest of Latin America... except when they didn’t want the show or the owners of the shows were fed up with Televisa’s practices and decided to subcontract a dubbing and sell themselves to other markets. If this should happen, the chances of such shows being broadcasted nationwide were slim as Televisa would only broadcast what they “owned“; either the government owned network would buy them or local stations would. Kinnikuman was never broadcast nationwide in Mexico, the dubbing was made outside, I’m not quite sure where this might have come from, my guess is either Colombian or Peruvian, I don’t recognize the usual voices from the Chilean (Garfield) or the Venezuelan (WB and Spongebob) dubbing agencies.
After the quake, Televisa had a bad case of karma as they would lose many of those dubbings and they had to relinquish most of the rest to the real owners; they would start acquiring shows dubbed elsewhere but they would still go under an approval process. If the show could become a problem in the short run, they would skip it. I doubt it was the anti-PC stuff or violence, though, it was probably for all the gross-out humor. After all, Televisa bought the first season of the Simpsons but cancelled it because of the language and themes and resold it to the government network. Some mistake!

Thank you so much for doing this video, I learned about kinnikuman while being in japan, I only watched the chilean version (latin dub) when I was a kid and later watched the kid muscle adaptation of 4kids. I never could have imagine the impact this series had in Japan. When I was on Japan the chojin tag of Nisei was it unfinished and it got me super hyped up, they even had a chilean chojin lol the moai one. Today it is one of my favorites animes and I am so glad I lived some history of it

This the iceberg i didn't ask, but needed the most.
Some interesting tidbits:
The original 1983 is divided into 3 series. Kinnikuman (1-65) Kinnikuman and the legendary golden mask/Dream Choujin Tag arc Part 1/Part 2: finals at the pyramid ring and Psycho Choujin arc (66-124) and Heinous Choujin arc (125-137). There were very long hiatuses (around 3 months) between those subdivisions, that's why it's hard to consider the 1st Kinnikuman anime as just one. The next episode previews at the end of eps. 65 and 124 even promoted the next episode as a "new series" (shin bangumi) instead of a "next chapter"
The dream choujin tag has 2 parts because the anime had to go into a 1 month break due to the death of Ramenmsn and Prince Kamehame's seiyu amidst the fight between the 20 million power combination snd the Hell Missionaries.
Another one: Shinsuke Kazato (music composer) recycled several musical cues from Urusei Yatsura (an anime he did most of the soundtrack for during 106 of 195 episodes) and re arranged them for Kinnikuman, even some ones he didn't compose (Urusei had like 5 music composers. Kazato reused and rearranged some cues Fumitaka Anzai did for that anime too).
Then, he would recycle some musical pieces from Kinnikuman into Future Police Urashiman and Ultraman USA.

Great stuff i imported the complete series boxset from japan for around 400 dollars and bought discoteks ultimate muscle bluray but i alwaus love digging more into the show
Well the Muscle Fight characters technically aren't lost and can be downloaded. However it seems to be Japan-only and using the VPN and diving into weird forums may be the only way of downloading them
None of it is particularly lost, but for non-Japanese language fans, it’s nearly impossible, but since this vid, a lot of those rare/obscure pieces have been made available
To elaborate on the famous Road Roller.
In the manga, Suguru lifts up an entire building and throws it at Meat. The anime had this altered into a steam roller, likely to be less of a hassle to animate. Araki outright mentioned he was fond of Kinnikuman and thus having DIO's final attack being something as outlandish as throwing a steam roller onto Jotaro, yet played perfectly seriously is highly likely to be a Kinnikuman reference, and this actually is backed up by the original JJBA OVA.
In the JJBA OVA, which was the first anime adaptation of JJBA, it's notable that DIO suddenly uses a truck instead of the steam roller for his final attack, a move that was incredibly perplexing to all JJBA fans. However, with Kinnikuman being as popular as it was and basically everyone having seen the first episode, it stands to reason that Araki or even the animation studio got cold feet making such a "recent" reference to Kinnikuman where the Roar Roller may have been seen as "too silly" due to the recent original context said roller was used in Kinnikuman.
So yeah, I say we win this one, fellow Chojin.

Ultimate Muscle is by far one of my favorite anime. It's got the goofiness of bobobo but bad ass fighting. So I'm game.
Still trying to find a way to run the "propper" Kinnikuman muscle fight with the additional characters, have the page and all ... but idk japanese ... and the kanjies doesn't show propperly on my pc once downloaded. But one day I'll brute force my way to play it!

Favorite has to be buffaloman vs kinnikuman, the devil chojin arc is absolutely incredible, every moment in that arc is so crazy and cool, the first time I read it I literally couldn’t stop because I was so enthralled. The LONGEST fight would for sure have to be probably soldier vs Phoenix, or suguru can Phoenix

I know 4kids dubbed the anime under ultimate muscle, as the clip showed the show aired in the UK also under KIX which was a sister channel of the many pop channels

Great fucking video! Also I actually remembered watching the Pitta Mask video of Robin Mask and Warsman before it got taken down way back in 2016. It was really cool just Robin Mask and Warsman walking into the ring all badass and ofc I think one of them sneezed or coughed? Say what you want about 4kids being garbage, but someone there must have really really believed and had some deep love for Kinnikuman.
I always thought Ultimate Muscle haveing the title "Kinnikuman Legacy" was... interesting cause usually they would be happy to pretend like their was no OG Kinnikuman.
But I guess it makes sense for them to humor dubbing OG Kinnikuman if Nisei did so well.
Maybe have it be like 4kids DBZ with DB coming later as an oddity
