And that's ok with me as the best ones are.
The days of the free number 10 are well and truely over. Its like players playing percentage points in tennis, what they call "winning tennis" over "street tennis". The latter is exciting, unpredictable, shows a different character. The former is robotic and boring. All managers are now neutering free roaming players that can change a game on their own for a analytics based winning formula. Its totally boring. It's like watching Germany play, everyone has become the Borg on Star Trek. No individualism, play as one body, that has a higher success percentage. How many wingers are you seeing cross the ball in the box? Numbers have dropped off a cliff as the analytics say it is has a lower percentage of success. Just like long balls from the goalee (which i agree most times is stupid as it's doomed to failure). Being back Maradonna, Gazza and prime Grealish. It's sad to see Grealish neutered.
Yes totally agree. You see it with Grealish, yes he's won more trophies, but basically just a target man, holds the ball, passes it then releases. Be great to see him for another club where he has freedom.
So much histrionics about Dhuran over the summer and his transfer antics. Sometimes you just have to accept the player is bonkers and go along for the ride. Fantastic.
Its going to take its toll on the cohesion of the team if he gets away with it TBH. That type of thing is virus that spreads and destroys a team. You can't have him kicking Bogards seat and flinging his rubbish at the kid. Bogarde could easily have took a stud on the head. Barkley did that under Smith and he was quickly disposed of.
Or sell him for a high transfer fee next Summer and replace him with a better-suited player to fit in an start in Unai Emery's system. If Villa can manage to get a transfer fee of £80-90m+ next summer from another club, I'd snap their hand off.
It's so good to see a player just use his instincts. It may not always work and sometimes they make a bad choice, but so what. Do we want people or robots? I used to be very system orientated. Then I watched the 1974 World Cup Final on VHS. I knew the Dutch had a reputation for total football, but the Germans, despite their man marking in defence, were just as fluid in attack. It was a real eye opener. It was such a good watch. Then teams like Brazil '82 France '84 carried that on. Even the more regimented leagues, like Italy, still found a way of letting some players improvise. But now its like any thought process is drilled out of them. Even the long ball tendency of English clubs in the '80 is preferable to what we get now. At least there was goalmouth action
I've liked him ever since I saw his insane goal against Crystal Palace. I still can't believe he generated that much power on that shot. I also like him because there's an MLB pitcher with almost the exact same name: Jhoan Duran (YO-ahn). Yes, the 'h' is right after the 'j' in his name, too.
Excellent video....but...he does look over his shoulder before the Bayern goal. You need the behind the goal camera to see it because he does it so early. This, imo, is what makes the goal so special, and links him to players like Jimmy Greaves. Glen Hoddle spoke about watching Greaves play 5 aside, every two seconds or so he'd look towards the goal, so he'd know instantly the best way to score if the ball came to him.
To add a little more context. Emery discussed with the team just prior to the game to be aware of Neur being off his line. In Duran's post game interview he said he glanced as you mentioned but to see how close the defender was to him as he had a mind to chip or score (no doubt he could see goal and Neur in his peripheral vision). All instinctual, unbelievable.

And the thing is, it’s consistent, not a fluke. Villa have levelled up in every aspect and now have a seriously competitive squad alongside an elite striker. Emery has total control over the playing side of the club, at it has transformed a relegation threatened side. There is no sign that the owners wish to change this model. So long as these incentives are aligned, Emery will stay (as evidenced by him signing a new contract). With Emery, Villa are likely to remain a top 5 side for the forseeable future (top 5 most years = champions league). But yes, for Villa to go beyond 4/5th consistently, it would require a financial transformation which will take at least 4 or 5 years given the current incoherence of financial rules in the Premier League and Europe (villa can't spend like other clubs despite have little to no debt).
Hi Adam Clery, my name is Nicolas Trujillo, I am from Colombia!!! I used to live in London and there I got a collection of FourFourTwo magazines. I still have that collection in Hamburg Germany the city I am currently living now. is there any chance for me to get the FourFourTwo T-Shirt for free???? I liked your video and the whole explanation about how Duran plays football, very good indeed!!!! Many greetings from Hamburg Germany!!!!
I thought this too, but I think the point Adam was trying to make was that pure poachers, like a Greaves, Linekar, Aldridge, Fowler, Phillips, Andy Cole et al are very rare these days.
If you watched Emery for his 30 yard goal vs Everton Emery was about to erupt before that ball hit the net. It's all about the probability of scoring and a 30 yard worldie won't happen too often.
its already been coached out of him unfortauntely, when we all shouted shoot form about 30 yeards out in the same position in the bologna game, and he jsut layed it off to rogers.
Let a number 9 play like a number 9 and a number 10 play like a number 10. i wish money didn't run the world, we would still see great players be great in South America if that were the case. I liked watching England play like England, but i never want to see Brazil do the same.
Dhuran needs Watkins control and more trickier / finesse on ball, and Watkins needs Dhuran instinctive confidence when he gets a chance! They both have flaws and both need to improve further...... combined together you have haaland! 😂
Wait what... I love Big Jhon but how did we start out arguing Watkins, Solanke, and Kane aren't "proper" centre forwards? Do "big" nations produce different styles or types of striker, sure. But hard to argue those aren't strikers.
Yeah I think he meant "Traditional" strikers or "Out & Out" Strikers where all they do is strike. Opposed to the current crop that have other duties. Which is quite funny because Watkins said the biggest thing Unai said was to stop helping out in midfield & just stay up front to score. So before that change he was probably even less of a "traditional striker"
He's a banger n physical wrecking ball beast, but his control n touch isn't always there yet fr Elite top level games! But, Ollie Watkins isn't quite the Top elite striker either! Watkins is a 1 in 3 striker, and Villa need a 1 in 2 chances scored more clinical striker! If John Dhuran and Watkins were 1 Combined player we would have the perfect striker!!! 😂
As a Villa fan, I can guarantee you Jhon Duran will be gone within a season or two at most. And I couldn't be happier that he's currently driving up his transfer fee. Should fetch a tidy profit by the time we move him on, in favour of bringing in a much more "stable" and reliable forward to better fit Emery's system going forward. If I were to wager, I bet you Villa will sell Duran by next season 2025/26, either in this January or next Summer transfer window (whichever one we can get more money for his transfer).
He is the very epitome of a "Finisher", might only get 3 or 4 touches of the ball all game. But he's scored a hat trick, so he's probably thinking "Well I've done my job, not my fault you lot let in 5" 😂😂😂.
Duran's future use as a player is my issue with modern European coaching and the game in general. Some persons are puritans in their craft and talent, they need to be better at what they do best not what they should be (being best at everything) as dictated by trends. I'm not against the modern trend, I mean the number 10 has been so much decentralized that All 11 players are now number 10s; that is really brilliant. But it doesn't give room for that pure 10 or 9 and it's quite unfair to their usefulness, it's why people expect Halaand to add more to his game, whereas he's fine just the way he his. Coaches should be able to take that risk and prioritize the individuality of a (an exceptional) talent and help them transition in an ever evolving game. Many managers or scout will miss out on the reincarnation of Oliver Kahn, because he can't pass like Ederson; how about maximizing his throwing abilities that way it's foolish pressing him and it's less pressure on your defense. There's always merit & demerit to talent, but you can't coach every individual the same. Duran should work on his link up play though.
One of the reasons why Duran might already be at the best place for him. Emery is great at building systems to suit the qualities of the players at his disposal. Morgan Rogers is a case in point. His strength and ball control means he is brilliant at turning players and driving forwards and that is exactly what Emery is telling him to do. Contrast with grealish at city, who became a much less dynamic player to adapt to peps system. Emery will bring the best out of Jhon if he has the patience to let him.
@@nottopcat5956 Emery can coach him according to his skills, that's not in doubt. I just don't believe he has won his trust yet, the quicker Duran wins that, the less likely Emery won't experiment with him and build a system where he slots in perfectly.
I reckon he still hasn't earned his place disciplinary wise. Hasn't matured yet, still up to his childish antics. If he cleans up his act I reckon it would help him a lot.
He's not Dalian Atkinson or Collymore! A few banger goals and suddenly he's a £80M striker! Ludicrous! Remember when Lukaku was worth £100M! Dhuran still needs to develop his close control, can't dribble, and often loses control of ball or gets tackled quite easily! Plenty of areas for him to develop as Unai fully understands!! But yeah, give him an instinctual chance where he doesn't have to think about it, and he"ll bang it in! 😂

But yes, for Villa to go beyond 4/5th consistently, it would require a financial transformation which will take at least 4 or 5 years given the current incoherence of financial rules in the Premier League and Europe (villa can't spend like other clubs despite have little to no debt).
thansk everyone!!
14:15 I'm American and that shit got me dyin
Wonder if Wenger made the South American striker comment while Juan Pablo Angel was playing for Villa
Duran getting 42 goals per 1 assist is sounding like my fifa player career mode stats
Sounds like Haaland
Do a Barcelona video on the CL match with Bayern!
Let Duran be Duran and everything will be fine
We still haven't got that Rodri video mate
Colombian talent ❤❤❤🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
JHON DURAN VIDEO 😯😯😯😯😯
Jhon"The possession ends here"Duran
Hi Adam Clery, my name is Nicolas Trujillo, I am from Colombia!!! I used to live in London and there I got a collection of FourFourTwo magazines. I still have that collection in Hamburg Germany the city I am currently living now. is there any chance for me to get the FourFourTwo T-Shirt for free???? I liked your video and the whole explanation about how Duran plays football, very good indeed!!!! Many greetings from Hamburg Germany!!!!
Solanke and Watkins are most definitely strikers.
Or I've been watching football wrong for 4 decades.
I thought this too, but I think the point Adam was trying to make was that pure poachers, like a Greaves, Linekar, Aldridge, Fowler, Phillips, Andy Cole et al are very rare these days.
@@jamesbaxter4920We called those guys goal hangers back in the day.
Watkins is a solid finisher
Ollie can play the 10
He’s a playmaker as well as a phenomenal Finisher
Thanks, especially for the spelling of Jhon 😂
His best goal was the disallowed one against Young Boys
I reckon Watkins/Durán is the best striker tandem in the PL.
A certifiable bagman?
Jhon "Me see ball, me smash it" Dhuran
If you watched Emery for his 30 yard goal vs Everton Emery was about to erupt before that ball hit the net. It's all about the probability of scoring and a 30 yard worldie won't happen too often.
its already been coached out of him unfortauntely, when we all shouted shoot form about 30 yeards out in the same position in the bologna game, and he jsut layed it off to rogers.
@@jjfreerIt really hasn't he also attempted a long range shot that was blocked in that game
Love the spelling of rogers
the simplest way you can put it is that watkins creates chances and duran gets on the end of them, two incredibe players we are blessed! UTV
Let a number 9 play like a number 9 and a number 10 play like a number 10. i wish money didn't run the world, we would still see great players be great in South America if that were the case. I liked watching England play like England, but i never want to see Brazil do the same.
Everyone in the UK thinks we are all cowboys from texas lol
Dhuran needs Watkins control and more trickier / finesse on ball, and Watkins needs Dhuran instinctive confidence when he gets a chance! They both have flaws and both need to improve further...... combined together you have haaland! 😂
I don't think watkins has any real flaws. He can absolutely finish with confidence. But he knows when to assist too
adam's american accent >>>
Man probably trained in Blue lock camp!!😅
Wait what... I love Big Jhon but how did we start out arguing Watkins, Solanke, and Kane aren't "proper" centre forwards?
Do "big" nations produce different styles or types of striker, sure. But hard to argue those aren't strikers.
They do more than just scoring.
Come on we're waiting for the Arsenal Liverpool game!
Man should watch Blue lock cus he reminds me of KING
As a Villa fan, I can guarantee you Jhon Duran will be gone within a season or two at most. And I couldn't be happier that he's currently driving up his transfer fee. Should fetch a tidy profit by the time we move him on, in favour of bringing in a much more "stable" and reliable forward to better fit Emery's system going forward. If I were to wager, I bet you Villa will sell Duran by next season 2025/26, either in this January or next Summer transfer window (whichever one we can get more money for his transfer).
if you count the 9s in the ten south american leagues then wenger is correct. the colombian national team has four 9s.
ICL that intro was a massive stretch, good videos aside from that!
What in the editing
Up the Villa!!!!!!
He is the very epitome of a "Finisher", might only get 3 or 4 touches of the ball all game. But he's scored a hat trick, so he's probably thinking "Well I've done my job, not my fault you lot let in 5" 😂😂😂.
Needs to be sold
Attitude problem, it will worsen.
I stand by Emery
The absolutely very definition of a bagsman.
You should be on sky sports haha or motd
Just to be a math nerd, at a 0.05 probability rate, it would take 20 games to get an assist, 0.04 would be 25 games :)
Now a-days strikers come from Africa (specifically Nigeria), and Wingers come from South America (specifically Brazil).
No
antony the GOAT of brazilian wingers
What a lot of rubbish
That American impression of saying false 9 😂😂😂
you got the Isaak/Haaland highlight graphic in the wrong order... how can I ever trust you again?
Philogene? 🤔
Misspelt Ramsey 😂😂
West ham offered 35 mill Villa daid its 40 mill or he's staying here, the rest is history, thank you weat ham and chelsea for not paying the 40 x
Did u watch the anime Bluelock they r making a pure striker like wat u want to describe here
This is such a good point
See-that IS how you spell Jhon. Grammar and pronunciation vary between countries and cultures.
I reckon he still hasn't earned his place disciplinary wise. Hasn't matured yet, still up to his childish antics. If he cleans up his act I reckon it would help him a lot.
Almost like Haaland but worse!
A striker who actually shoots and the world goes mental glazing him. Footballs so washed.
Is Jhon Duran better than Mario Ballotelli?
Nope
Lol Mario is not even close
No
